The downtown Atlanta-Vine City revitalization continues as Hard Rock International recently announced Reverb by Hard Rock, a new hotel concept that will be located in downtown Atlanta.

Reverb by Hard Rock will be part of a new brand of music-centric hotels “designed as contemporary hubs where modern music lovers can connect and create,” the company said in a news release.

Located  adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Reverb is tentatively planned to open in February 2020.

“Reverb by Hard Rock will spotlight the guest in a whole new way and create a place for those who eat, sleep and breathe music to unite and collaborate,” Todd Hricko, senior vice president for Hard Rock Hotels, said in the release. “Atlanta is the perfect location for our first Reverb, as it is rich in music history, spanning from the greats like Ray Charles and the Black Crowes to current popular artists like Ludacris, Usher, Ciara and John Mayer.”

Atlanta-based companies Bolton Atlanta, LP and Hotel Equities (HE) will develop and manage the hotel, which is expected to significantly lift the clout of the nearby Castleberry Hills neighborhood.

“We’re proud to announce our collaboration with Hard Rock International in launching the inaugural Reverb by Hard Rock,” said Frank Chen, chief operating officer of Bolton Atlanta, LP. “The area’s energetic atmosphere and history of embracing artistic endeavors aligns well with the Reverb by Hard Rock hotel product.”

Report: HQ2 Will Be Split Between Long Island, Northern Virginia

    2 Min Read

Well, it looks like Atlanta’s hopes of landing the world’s largest online retailer are over. The sweepstakes of getting Amazon’s second world headquarters is going to two cities in the Northeast. A new report from the New York Times says that Amazon’s HQ2 will be split between New York City’s Long Island and northern Virginia.

The move would mean that each city would have about 25,000 employees each. The news gives life to several leading cities, including Atlanta, which heard with the rest of us last week that the HQ2, at least one of them, would be located in the Virginia area.

Of all the cities vying to become the Amazon HQ2, Atlanta figured it had a leg up on the competition: world class airport, sizeable downtown and entertainment district, affordable housing and MARTA.

But Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and team have been eerily silent on which city they will choose to bring 50,000 jobs to and $5 billion in investment. But now the world’s biggest online retailer has announced that it will have an answer before end of year.

Late-stage negotiations with the New York City-New Jersey area involve more than $7 billion in incentives, the Journal reports.

The highly anticipated film “Godzilla vs. Kong” shot some scenes in the Atlanta area earlier this year, but now principal production began this week in faraway tropical locations. The movie follows on the heels of 2017’s highly successful “Skull Island.”

The new movie featuring Godzilla and King Kong combines two of the greatest monsters in motion picture history.

    ‘Godzilla vs. Kong begins filming

The film is being helmed by director Adam Wingard (“The Guest,” “You’re Next”) and stars Alexander Skarsgård (“Big Little Lies,” “The Little Drummer Girl”), Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Rebecca Hall (“Christine,” “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta,” “Widows”), Shun Oguri (“Gintama”), Eiza González (“Baby Driver”) and Jessica Henwick (“Iron Fist”) among others.

Hawaii and Australia will be primary locations for filming. The movie, a Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment production,  is set to be released on May 22, 2020.

Excitement is brewing for monstrous entertainment on the big screen.

Legendary Pictures president Thomas Tull kicked it off when he announced during at a panel that alongside a second Godzilla film, major abominations like Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah would all see the light of day.

Atlanta has become a movie mecca in recent years and Georgia has been a favorite location for TV productions since the state instituted generous tax breaks for film companies that agree to shoot locally. Projects from CBS, NBC, HBO, BET and more are slated to shoot in the metro area in 2018-19 and the foreseeable future.

With more than 700 movie and TV projects just in the last few years, the film industry has generated more than $9 billion for the state of Georgia.
