The Gulch, that long stretch of underground parking lot, railyard and abandoned greenspace, has been rebranded as Centennial Yards.
Real estate firm CIM Group is responsible for the transformation, which aims to encompass far more just a name change.
The Gulch In Downtown Atlanta Is Now Centennial Yards
The name change is part of a redevelopment that will feature a mix of hotels, apartments and retail spaces covering up to 12 million square feet. The project will revitalize a 40-acre patch of land that has sat dormant and unkempt for more than two decades.
The downtown Atlanta space, which used to be a prominent railroad junction, fell into disrepair when city planners sought to build up the area around Techwood for the 1996 Olympics.
“Now is a prudent time for us to launch the branding of Centennial Yards. We wanted a name that was authentic, and one that would make clear where the project was located, while also honoring the history of the site,” said Devon McCorkle, First Vice President, CIM Group.
During the commotion around the new Amazon headquarters, Atlanta officials offered plans to redevelop the Gulch, but there was staunch opposition.
The latest effort seems to have come to pass quietly.

The fast food chain and local franchise owner and Operator Lauren McGuire ran the free promotion, called First 100.
New Chick-Fil-A opens in Newnan
The First 100 Campout party included community members of all ages in an overnight party. Registrations begins at the restaurant at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.
McGuire’s life has been intertwined with Chick-Fil-A since she was small. At age 7, she had open heart surgery and her family would reward her after her numerous doctor appointments with Dwarf House in Hapeville.
Years later, two of her brothers would become Chick-fil-A operators and another worked at the chain’s Atlanta support center. Her husband worked as a corporate attorney for Chick-Fil-A for more than a decade.
Soon McGuire joined the chain as a team member. In 2011 she was named operator of the Arbor Place Mall location in Douglasville.
McGuire’s nearly 5,000-square-foot restaurant at Newnan Crossing has been designed to enhance all aspects of a guest’s experience from the drive-thru to the counter to in-restaurant dining.
Up to 100 adults will win a digital offer card with a year of free Chick-fil-A meals (52 meals with each consisting of a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, medium Waffle Potato Fries and a medium beverage).
· The community event is open to guests surrounding the restaurant with a list of eligible zip codes and complete rules found at https://thechickenwire.
