ATLANTA, GA — Georgia’s thriving film industry is once again shining bright as acclaimed director Judd Apatow sets up shop in the Peach State for his latest comedy, The Comeback King. The Universal Pictures project, which began principal photography in early April 2026, is currently filming key scenes across Macon, Savannah, and surrounding areas, injecting excitement and economic boosts into local communities.
The Comeback King filming in Georgia is a welcome respite from the recent trend of Hollywood films opting out of the Peach State.
In this article, we’ll tell you all about The Comeback King and how it’s filming continues to help Georgia’s movie industry.
What Is The Comeback King About?
The film stars Glen Powell as a country western star whose career takes a dramatic downturn. Forced to return to college to rebuild his life and reclaim his spotlight, Powell’s character navigates an underdog story filled with Apatow’s signature blend of sharp humor, heartfelt moments, and industry satire. Powell co-wrote the script with Apatow and also serves as a producer alongside Apatow, Dan Cohen, and Kevin Misher.
Joining Powell on screen is a stacked ensemble cast including Cristin Milioti, Madelyn Cline, Stavros Halkias, Jin Hao Li, Vanessa Bayer, Tig Notaro, Kumail Nanjiani, and recent additions like Leanne Morgan and others from the comedy world. Original country songs by Lukas Nelson and ERNEST add an authentic musical flavor to the production.
Lights, Camera, Macon!
Filming has turned heads in Macon’s College Hill neighborhood and near Mercer University, where crews transformed streets like College Street, Coleman Avenue, Cherry Street, Second Street, and Third Street into movie sets throughout early May. Locals gathered to watch as production rolled, with many jumping at casting calls for extras and stand-ins.
Macon-Bibb County officials noted temporary traffic and sidewalk impacts but emphasized the positive ripple effects for local businesses and the community. “It’s really cool to have film back,” one resident told local media, highlighting Georgia’s reputation as “Hollywood South.”
Savannah Charm Draws the Crew
Production also set up in Savannah and nearby Claxton, drawn by the city’s historic appeal, crew-friendly environment, and local hospitality. Apatow himself hosted a comedy benefit show at the SCAD Trustees Theatre in mid-May while filming continued in the area through mid-June.
The production has actively hired Georgia talent for crew positions, extras, and supporting roles, further supporting the state’s film economy. Georgia continues to attract major projects thanks to its tax incentives, diverse locations, and experienced workforce.
What’s Next for ‘The Comeback King’?
The Comeback King is slated for a theatrical release on February 5, 2027. As Apatow’s eighth feature as director—following hits like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and The King of Staten Island—expect a crowd-pleasing mix of laughs and genuine emotion with a country twist.
Atlantafi.com will keep you updated on any additional filming sightings or local stories from the set. In the meantime, keep an eye out in Macon and Savannah—you might just spot Glen Powell strumming a guitar or Apatow calling “Action!”

Atlanta remains a major hub for film, TV, corporate, and creative industries in 2026. A strong, professional headshot is essential for actors, executives, realtors, models, and anyone building their personal brand. This updated guide covers current options, pricing trends, tips, and top recommendations.
You may be wondering where to get a good headshot for acting, and that’s a good question. But you may be wondering this: Can you take your own headshots for acting?
Can You Take Your Own Headshots For Acting?
if you have a smartphone that takes good photos, you can take your own headshots for acting or other aspects of the business. The question you need to ask yourself is whether you consider yourself a professional photographer.
Professional photographers are highly skilled at taking photos that look high quality. You can try to take headshots yourself, but you may find yourself wasting a lot of time and effort.
Some things you’ll want to make sure of if you do decide to take your own photos is to:
- Take multiple shots
- Make sure your lighting is right
- Take multiple pictures but always smile
What Should You Wear For Headshots?
One thing you always need to consider is how to dress when you take a headshot. Because the photos will be in black and white, you may need to wear dark-colored shirts.
Mix it up a bit by wearing light-colored shirts, including white and other pastel colors.
How Much Does It Cost To Get Headshots?
If you want to opt for a professional photographer for headshots, it’s going to cost money. The cost of some headshots can range between $75 to around $500.
In Atlanta, the average price of some headshots is about $250, although you can get some done for as low as $125, but the quantities will be low.
Now let’s go over some good places to get headshots in Atlanta.
Where To Get Headshots For Acting
- Headshots Atlanta: 1012 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 | (404) 892-3533
- CK Headshots Atlanta: (704) 608-3006
- Happy Hour Headshot Atlanta: 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 | (720) 306-7404
- Hollywood Headshots: 2849 Piedmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305 | (404) 500-6413
- Corporate Headshots Atlanta: 3365 Piedmont Rd NE #1400, Atlanta, GA 30305 | (770) 953-1719
- Buckhead Studio Photography: Peachtree Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30326 | (404) 462-2385
- Atlanta Photographer Kris Janovitz: 3355 Lenox Rd NE #750, Atlanta, GA 30326 | (770) 570-9661
- Robert Kim Photography: 3833 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319 | (212) 645-5788
Do Your Headshots Be Black And White?
Back in the day, most actors only took black and white headshots. The reason was because if you were a struggling actor, it cost money to hire a professional photographer. That’s not so much the case today.
Yes, actors are still struggling, but the rise of smartphones with great cameras has made color headshots a popular option.
If you’re unsure of which way to go, choose both color and black-and-white photos for headshots. That way, you can give producers options.
Last Words
If you want to get into the acting business, you need to have professional headshots so that your credentials can circulate throughout the industry.

Atlanta’s thriving film and TV scene is about to get a dose of classic detective drama with a modern twist. NBC has greenlit a pilot for a reboot of the iconic 1970s series The Rockford Files, and production is set to kick off right here in the Peach State.
Veteran actor David Boreanaz, known for his roles in Bones and SEAL Team, will step into the shoes of private investigator Jim Rockford, a role originally made famous by James Garner.
The Rockford Files Filming in Atlanta
The pilot will film primarily at Assembly Studios in Doraville from March 9 to March 23, with additional scenes shot in Los Angeles to capture the show’s sunny California setting.
A Blast from the Past: What is The Rockford Files?
For those unfamiliar with the original series, The Rockford Files aired on NBC from 1974 to 1980, spanning six seasons and over 120 episodes, plus several TV movies.
The show followed Jim Rockford, a wisecracking, ex-con private eye living in a rundown trailer on the Malibu beach.
Wrongfully imprisoned and later pardoned, Rockford took on cases that often involved shady clients, corrupt officials, and plenty of car chases in his signature Pontiac Firebird. James Garner brought charm and grit to the role, supported by a memorable cast including Noah Beery Jr. as his father Rocky, Joe Santos as LAPD Sgt. Dennis Becker, and Gretchen Corbett as attorney Beth Davenport.

The series was a hit for its blend of humor, action, and character-driven storytelling, earning multiple Emmy nominations and becoming a staple of 1970s television.
It was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell, who infused it with clever dialogue and realistic portrayals of the PI life—far from the glamorous detectives of other shows.
The Reboot: Modern Take on a Classic
This new iteration promises to update the formula while honoring the original. Boreanaz, whose track record includes long-running hits like Angel (a Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off) and the procedural Bones, brings a proven ability to anchor ensemble dramas. He’s joined by Michaela McManus (The Village, Aquarius) in a key ensemble role, with Greg Mottola (Superbad, The Daytrippers) directing the pilot.
While details on the plot remain under wraps, the show is expected to retain Rockford’s Los Angeles base, focusing on contemporary issues like cybercrime, corporate intrigue, and personal redemption—all with the wry humor that defined the original.
NBC’s decision to reboot the series comes amid a wave of revivals tapping into nostalgia, but Boreanaz’s involvement is a strong indicator of potential success. Every pilot he’s led has gone to series, suggesting The Rockford Files could join the ranks of enduring procedurals.
If picked up, it’s unclear whether the full series will stay in Atlanta or relocate to LA, but the pilot’s choice of Georgia highlights the state’s cost-effective incentives and top-tier facilities.
Atlanta’s Starring Role in the TV Boom
This production is just the latest example of why Atlanta has earned its nickname as the “Hollywood of the South.”
Georgia’s generous tax credits—up to 30% on qualified expenditures—have transformed the state into one of the top film and TV hubs in the nation, rivaling Los Angeles and New York.
In 2026 alone, over 25 projects are actively filming across the state, including high-profile series like Stranger Things (wrapping its final season), Will Trent, and P-Valley, as well as movies such as Superman and Flowervale Street.
The industry’s growth dates back to the 1970s with films like Deliverance, but it exploded in the 2000s thanks to incentives established in 2008.
Today, metro Atlanta boasts world-class studios like Pinewood Atlanta (now Trilith Studios), Tyler Perry Studios, and the aforementioned Assembly Studios—a massive complex developed by Gray Television and NBCUniversal, offering soundstages, backlots, and production services.
These facilities support everything from blockbusters like Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther to long-running TV hits such as The Walking Dead.
Despite a post-strike slowdown in 2025, where production dipped due to labor disputes and economic uncertainty, insiders remain optimistic. The iconic 90s sitcom A Different World is making a triumphant return, and it’s bringing the spotlight right here to Atlanta.
Netflix has greenlit a reboot of the beloved series, set once again at the fictional Hillman College, and production is ramping up with an open casting call for background actors – particularly targeting HBCU students and alumni to infuse authentic campus vibes into the show.
Filming is slated to kick off this month, transforming parts of the city into the vibrant world of Hillman.
For those who grew up watching Denise Huxtable navigate college life or Dwayne Wayne’s unforgettable flip-up glasses, this reboot promises to revisit the themes of Black excellence, social issues, and HBCU culture that made the original a cultural touchstone.
The show, which originally aired from 1987 to 1993 as a spin-off of The Cosby Show followed students at Hillman, highlighting everything from Greek life to activism.
Now, under the guidance of executive producers including industry veterans, the series aims to update these stories for a new generation while honoring its roots.
Casting Call: A Different World
Central Casting Georgia is leading the charge for extras, posting calls on social media and casting sites for individuals 18 and older to portray college students.
No acting experience is required – just reliability, punctuality, and a professional attitude.
The roles are paid, with filming dates starting as early as February 3, 2026, and extending through mid-2026 in the Atlanta area.
Applicants are encouraged to bring their real-life HBCU energy, whether from local institutions like Spelman, Morehouse, or Clark Atlanta University, to help recreate the bustling campus atmosphere.
This isn’t the first time “A Different World” has tapped into HBCU talent – earlier development phases included partnerships with organizations like the NAACP for student auditions – but this Atlanta-focused call underscores the city’s growing status as a Hollywood hub.
With Georgia’s film incentives drawing major productions, Atlanta has become synonymous with Black storytelling, from Tyler Perry Studios to recent hits like “The Walking Dead” and “Stranger Things.”
The reboot’s choice to film here aligns perfectly with the show’s emphasis on Black education and community, potentially boosting local economies and providing opportunities for emerging talent.

Spots are filling up fast, so don’t miss your chance to be part of television history. As one casting post put it, this is about celebrating “authenticity, community, and the next generation of voices shaping culture.”
