Development is happening in all four quadrants of Atlanta, and one of the biggest projects right now is The Works, an 80-acre mixed-use development on Atlanta’s Upper Westside.
Phase one of the project is under construction but is slated to open in early 2020. The 27-acre site will include retail and dining, imaginative experiences and gathering areas.
The Works development: Everything you want to know
One of the more exciting aspects about The Works is that it will be a hub of interconnectivity, allowing people to congregate an an environment that on one hand preserves the character of historic Atlanta, but also caters to the technological advancements of the day and age.
The multi-phased master plan covers 350,000 square feet of retail and entertainment, 500,000 square feet of office space, 500 residences, 200 hotel rooms and 13 acres of greenspace.
Where is the Works located?
The Works is located right off Chattahoochee Ave. near Topgolf Midtown. The address is roughly 1295 Chattahoochee Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. Here’s a map so you can see the area:

You may feel you look the part, but are you qualified to be in front of the big or small screen? Atlanta’s film industry is taking applications, but it’s going to take some work on your end.
Here’s how to land an audition for a speaking role in a movie filmed in Atlanta.
How To Get A Part In A Movie Filmed In Atlanta
Of course, who you know will never hurt you in Atlanta, if you’ve got the right skills, are humble and hungry, you can go far in the movie business.
The truth is that you can have all the schooling, training and experience, and your name still not get called. But you’ve got to believe!
So let’s look at what it takes to get a part in a movie filmed in Atlanta:
Study Your Craft
Before you take up acting, you should learn how to act. Study your craft, read books on acting, watch films for the technical aspects and techniques of the actors.
You can take acting classes in Atlanta at the following locations:
- Alliance Theatre
- Celebrity Actors Studio
- Anthony Meindl’s Actors Workshop Atlanta
- Catapult Acting Studios
- Drama Inc.
Get a headshot
You may feel that a selfie on your iPhone captures your best side, but that’s not going to work in the movie business.
Before you can get a part in a movie, you need a proper headshot. It is the key to getting in the door for many movie and TV productions.
If your headshot does its job, casting directors will want to see more of you!
Take Small Acting Gigs
The independent film scene is huge in Georgia. You can find non-paid work in a number of places, including on social media or in Facebook groups.
There are many hungry filmmakers looking to cast beginning actors who will do it for the experience.
Once you get some reels under your belt, it’s time to take it a step further…
Get An Agent
You need an agent in the movie business in this day and age. You may feel you have the acting chops to make it without one but you won’t be taken seriously if you don’t retain an agent.
You should be able to get an agent without paying them anything until you land a job. If an agent charges a fee upfront, they had better be well-connected with a demonstrable resume.
Once you have representation, you can begin the job of finding a work as an actor.
Don’t Give Up
Things rarely happen overnight in show business. If you don’t get a part in a movie after the first few auditions you attend, don’t fret. it’s going to take patience: Don’t give up.
Award-winning actress Uzo Aduba, who plays “Crazy Eyes,” almost gave up before she was cast in the Netflix hit “Orange is the New Black.”
Here is Aduba auditioning for multiple parts in the series:

The plot of land, more than 300 acres, traces its earliest beginnings to a U.S. Army barracks that would soon be home for the Confederate Army. It would quickly return to the Union during the Civil War.
In 1885, Fort McPherson would claim the space over 500 acres. The Army base was named after Union Major General James McPherson, who was killed in battle during the American Civil War.
When Georgia seceded in 1861, the Confederate government took charge of Fort McPherson. These lasted until the Battle of Atlanta, which saw operations at the base moved elsewhere.
But the site is not so much about the past as it is about its future. Perry has transformed the grounds into an oasis of manicured natural beauty.
