ATLANTA, GA (July 22, 2026) — In a significant step toward expanding affordable homeownership along the Atlanta Beltline, Mayor Andre Dickens, Invest Atlanta, and Atlanta Beltline, Inc. (ABI) today officially launched the Beltline Mortgage Assistance Program.
This new down payment assistance initiative aims to help legacy residents, public sector employees, and other qualified buyers purchase homes in targeted Beltline neighborhoods on the city’s south and west sides.
Beltline Mortgage Assistance Program: What To Know
The Atlanta Beltline program addresses a core challenge in rapidly developing areas: rising home costs that risk displacing longtime residents and making it difficult for essential workers to live in the communities they serve. It reflects Mayor Dickens’ broader commitment to preserving affordability and building 20,000 units of affordable housing by 2030.
Program Details and Benefits
Eligible buyers can receive:
- Up to $30,000 for legacy residents and public sector employees (such as teachers, first responders, and other civil servants).
- Up to $20,000 for other qualified homebuyers.
Funds can be applied flexibly toward down payments, closing costs, permanent interest rate reductions, or a combination. Assistance is structured as a 0% interest soft second mortgage with a 15-year affordability period.
Atlanta Beltline, Inc. is investing an initial $1.5 million in 2026, with another $1.5 million planned for 2027, drawn from its affordable housing budget. Invest Atlanta will administer the program and handle loan servicing.
Eligibility and Requirements
The program targets specific subareas (1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10) within the Beltline Tax Allocation District (TAD) on the south and west sides. An interactive map with address lookup is available on the Beltline website.
Key requirements include:
- Purchase of single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, or 2- to 4-unit properties.
- 30-year fixed-rate FHA, VA, or conventional mortgage (maximum loan amount $400,000; no maximum purchase price, with max CLTV of 105%).
- Minimum FICO credit score of 620.
- Household income limits up to 140% of Area Median Income (AMI), or 120% AMI for certain land trust transactions (e.g., 1-person household max around $115,500 at 140% AMI).
- Liquid assets not exceeding $35,000.
- Minimum buyer contribution of $1,500.
- Completion of a HUD-approved 8-hour homebuyer education course plus an Invest Atlanta Q&A session.
Statements from Leaders
Mayor Andre Dickens emphasized the program’s role in community stability: “The Beltline Mortgage Assistance Program reflects the City’s commitment to protecting housing affordability and legacy neighborhoods. By removing financial barriers, we can achieve community-centered development that puts homeownership within reach for more Atlantans.”
Dr. Eloisa Klementich, President and CEO of Invest Atlanta, highlighted its wealth-building potential: “Homeownership is one of the most powerful tools for building generational wealth… Invest Atlanta has provided downpayment assistance to more than 650 homebuyers totaling more than $13 million.”
Clyde Higgs, President and CEO of Atlanta Beltline, Inc., noted: “The Atlanta Beltline is for all Atlantans… This program helps ensure that longtime residents and the public servants who serve these neighborhoods have a real opportunity to own a home and share in the Beltline’s success.”
Broader Context
The Beltline has already reached 81% of its goal to create or preserve 5,600 affordable housing units by 2030, delivering over 4,500 units, many targeted at lower-income households. While past efforts emphasized rentals, this program expands focus on ownership opportunities, aligning with new for-sale developments like those at 425 Chappell Road.
This initiative builds on Invest Atlanta’s existing programs, such as general down payment assistance and targeted efforts in areas like Vine City and Perry Bolton, and supports the city’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative for inclusive growth.
For more information, eligibility details, and to apply, visit Invest Atlanta’s homebuyer programs page or contact Invest Atlanta’s Homeownership Coordinator.
This program represents a proactive investment in equitable development, ensuring the transformative Beltline project benefits longtime Atlantans and essential workers for generations to come.

The NFL has locked in the date for Super Bowl LXII: the game that will cap the 2027 season is set for Sunday, February 13, 2028, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
This marks Atlanta’s fourth time hosting the Super Bowl and the second time the event will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (the first was Super Bowl LIII in 2019).
Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta Date Set
The stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, has established itself as a premier venue since opening, and the return of the league’s biggest game underscores the city’s continued appeal as a Super Bowl host.
Super Bowl LXII will conclude the 2027 NFL season. By tradition, the game falls in mid-February, giving teams and fans a clear target after the regular season and playoffs. Ticket interest is already building, with packages and deposits being promoted well in advance of the event.
Atlanta previously hosted Super Bowls XXVIII (1994), XXXIV (2000), and LIII (2019). Bringing the championship back for a fourth time reinforces the city’s infrastructure, fan experience, and track record with major events. Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s modern design, retractable roof, and capacity make it well-suited for the spectacle of Super Bowl Sunday.
As the 2027 season approaches, attention will turn to the competing teams, the halftime show, and the broader festivities that surround the game. For now, February 13, 2028, stands as the official date when the Lombardi Trophy will next be awarded in Atlanta.

If you’re contemplating a trip to the Georgia Aquarium, you have a great experience ahead of you. This Atlanta institution draws millions of visitors per year.
In this article, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about the Georgia Aquarium. Here’s how you can skip the line at the Georgia Aquarium.
Georgia Aquarium: What To Know Before You Go
Located in downtown Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium opened in 2005 and is home to over 100,000 animals across more than 500 species. Its massive 10-million-gallon tank system includes standout exhibits like the Ocean Voyager, featuring whale sharks, manta rays, and a mesmerizing underwater tunnel. Other highlights include the Tropical Diver coral reef, the Cold Water Quest with beluga whales, and the Dolphin Coast with its engaging dolphin shows.
The aquarium is a leader in marine conservation and research, making it both an educational and entertaining destination.
I recently went to the Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta to give my support as well as get out of the house. When I went, they still hadn’t reopened all of the exhibits due to the coronavirus pandemic, but plenty of them were available.
The Georgia Aquarium was supposed to undergo a major renovation. It was getting some bigger tanks. Well, sort of. The downtown Atlanta landmark was set to expand.
Released renderings and drawings show a new building on Baker Street adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park. The project will cost an estimated $100 million.
When you arrive in the parking deck, you will have to walk across a bridge to the ticket area, but it’s not a long walk.
What Are Georgia Aquarium Prices?
Georgia Aquarium prices are reasonable if you consider all the attractions you get to enjoy. When I went to the Georgia Aquarium, the prices were:
- Anytime General Admission — $67.99
- Plan & Save General Admission — $44.79
- Aqua Pass — $67.99
Sometimes you can save money by catching an early-bird special, but those sales come and go.

ExhibitsThe aquarium is divided into several themed galleries, each offering a unique glimpse into aquatic ecosystems:
- Ocean Voyager: The star of the show, this exhibit houses the largest indoor aquarium tank in the world. The 6.3-million-gallon habitat is home to whale sharks, the gentle giants of the sea, alongside manta rays, groupers, and schools of fish. The 100-foot-long acrylic tunnel provides an immersive experience, making you feel like you’re walking underwater.
- Tropical Diver: A vibrant display of coral reefs, this gallery features colorful fish, seahorses, and jellyfish. It’s a great spot for photography and learning about fragile tropical ecosystems.
- Cold Water Quest: Home to beluga whales, sea otters, and penguins, this exhibit showcases animals from colder climates. The belugas are a crowd favorite, with their playful behavior and interactive viewing areas.
- Dolphin Coast: The dolphin show, included with admission, combines entertainment with education about dolphin behavior and conservation. The stadium-style seating ensures good views, but arrive early for the best spots.
- Shark Gallery: A newer addition, this exhibit focuses on various shark species and their role in ocean ecosystems. It includes interactive displays and a touch pool for hands-on learning.
- River Scout: This gallery highlights freshwater ecosystems, featuring piranhas, electric eels, and otters. It’s a great contrast to the marine-focused exhibits.
Shows and Presentations
The aquarium offers daily presentations, including dolphin shows, sea lion shows, and animal feedings. The dolphin show, “Dolphins in Depth,” blends acrobatics with insights into marine mammal training. Check the daily schedule upon arrival, as showtimes vary, and seating can fill up quickly.
Interactive Experiences
For an additional fee, the Georgia Aquarium offers behind-the-scenes tours, animal encounters, and dive programs. The “Journey with Gentle Giants” dive or swim experience lets you get in the water with whale sharks and rays (no scuba certification required for the swim).
Animal encounters include interactions with penguins, sea lions, or belugas, offering a closer look at these creatures and their care.
Manta Rays
The beautiful Manta rays really were amazing to watch. The Georgia Aquarium even had relaxing music to set the mood. Here are some other attractions you won’t want to miss:- Sea Lions

ATLANTANS looking for year-round thrills without leaving the metro area have a new destination. Thrillz Atlanta, billed as a first-of-its-kind indoor adrenaline park, officially opened Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 4280 Northeast Expressway in Atlanta (just off Spaghetti Junction).
Thrillz Atlanta, a first-of-its-kind indoor adrenaline park, is now open near Spaghetti Junction
The massive, next-generation venue spans about 56,000 square feet with high ceilings and combines the feel of an amusement park, an action park, and an immersive entertainment space under one roof. Organizers say nothing quite like it exists elsewhere in the country, pointing to the scale, the mix of attractions, and several features unique or rare in the United States.
Highlights include a 35-foot mega slide tower (described as the only one of its kind in North America), a roughly 40-foot drop tower, an interactive climbing wall rising nearly 40 feet with stuntman-style airbags below.
For the pint-sized acrobats, there are wall-to-wall trampolines, ninja-style obstacle courses over giant airbags, a zip line, inflatable sports courts, a spinning coaster, the Rush 360 pendulum ride that flips and spins, laser tag in a jungle-themed arena, duckpin bowling, an arcade, and two virtual-reality experiences—including a Grave Digger Monster Jam simulation that is among only a handful in the country, plus a VR coaster option.
Younger visitors have dedicated spaces: a 10,000-square-foot soft-play jungle gym for ages 4–10 and a toddler zone for ages 0–4. There are also party rooms, a café offering pizza, chicken tenders and other snacks, and smart wristbands that track time and activity for a gamified experience.
“This is a massive, next-generation indoor experience that combines the feel of an amusement park, an action park, and an immersive entertainment venue all under one roof,” promotional materials note. “What makes it stand out is the sheer scale and mix of attractions, and a lineup that in several cases does not exist anywhere else in the United States.”
Thrillz is the third location for the brand (following sites in Connecticut and Pennsylvania) and is presented as the fullest realization of the concept developed by founders Rob and Lisa Cannon. Company representatives have said Atlanta’s energetic, family-oriented population made it a natural fit for an ambitious indoor option.
Hours and tickets
Current operating hours are generally Monday–Thursday noon–8 p.m., Friday noon–10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–10 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.–8 p.m. (subject to change for holidays or events).Admission is primarily time-based for adventure attractions (trampolines, slides, obstacles, sports courts) with separate or bundled options for carnival-style and VR rides. Weekday adventure packages start around $25 for 60 minutes (higher on weekends), with junior, toddler, laser-tag, and multi-ride options available. Full current pricing and tickets are on the park’s website.

Atlanta3 Min Read
Netflix has reversed course on Tyler Perry’s drama series Beauty in Black, renewing it for a fourth season just months after declaring that Season 3 would serve as the finale. The announcement, made on July 23, 2026, comes ahead of the still-unscheduled Season 3 premiere and follows the strong performance of Season 2.
Beauty in Black Season 4 Renewed
In December 2025, the streamer had renewed the show for a third and final season. That plan has now been scrapped. The turnaround is credited in large part to Season 2’s viewership success. Released in two parts, the season spent six weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 and reached No. 1 in 17 countries.
The Series and Its Story
Created, written, directed, and executive produced by Tyler Perry, Beauty in Black centers on two women from vastly different worlds whose lives become deeply entangled. Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams), a former sex worker struggling after being kicked out by her mother, crosses paths with Mallory (Crystle Stewart), who runs a successful beauty business. The series explores the ruthless Bellarie family behind a cosmetics empire that also masks an underground trafficking ring.
Season 2 followed Kimmie as she transformed into a force of vengeance seeking to rescue her kidnapped sister while the family’s secrets and betrayals came under pressure. Season 3 is expected to place Kimmie at the Bellarie table, only for a deadly family feud to force an uneasy alliance with Mallory as they navigate blackmail, revenge, and buried secrets that threaten to destroy the empire.
No premiere date for Season 3 has been announced.

Business3 Min Read
In a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, the founders of Earn Your Leisure (EYL)—Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings—stirred controversy by highlighting what they described as insufficient support from the City of Atlanta for their flagship event, Invest Fest. The financial literacy and entrepreneurship festival has called Atlanta home for six years, drawing thousands of attendees annually to the Georgia World Congress Center.
During the interview, the duo noted that despite the event’s growth into one of the country’s largest financial literacy gatherings, they have received “minimal” backing from city officials and major corporate sponsors. They emphasized their grassroots approach, self-funding much of the operation—which reportedly costs around $4 million—while relying on partners in the business world.
City of Atlanta Official Responds To Earn Your Leisure Comments
“We flirted with the idea [of moving it] just because… the lack of support that we’ve gotten from the city of Atlanta has been something that has been puzzling,” one of the hosts shared, underscoring their commitment to Atlanta despite the challenges.
Invest Fest 2026 is scheduled for August 7–9 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, featuring speakers, networking, performances, and vendor opportunities focused on investing, business, and wealth-building.
Pushback from City Officials and Residents
The comments quickly sparked a heated online debate, with some Atlanta residents and officials pushing back against the characterization. Critics argued that the city provides resources for businesses and events, and questioned whether Invest Fest has fully leveraged available support. Social media reactions ranged from defense of the city’s business climate to accusations that the remarks felt like a slight against Atlanta.
This response contrasts with prior public endorsements. In previous years, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has spoken positively about the event, highlighting financial literacy’s role in economic success and noting Atlanta as a hub “to secure the bag.” Press conferences and announcements have featured city involvement in promoting past iterations.
EYL has consistently touted Invest Fest’s independent success and economic impact. One post noted it has already generated a $100 million economic boost for the city.
Context and Broader Implications
Invest Fest blends financial education with pop culture, entertainment, and networking, attracting high-profile speakers like Steve Harvey, 50 Cent (in past lineups), and business leaders. It has grown significantly since its early days, drawing tens of thousands despite occasional attendee criticisms about logistics in prior years.
The current controversy underscores ongoing tensions in how cities support large-scale cultural and educational events, particularly those targeting Black entrepreneurship and financial empowerment. While EYL positions itself as a self-made success story, detractors point to Atlanta’s established resources for business development.
As Invest Fest 2026 approaches, the conversation has amplified visibility for the event. Tickets and vendor spots remain available via investfest.com. Whether this exchange leads to stronger city partnerships or fuels further debate remains to be seen, but it has undeniably put a spotlight on the intersection of private event production, municipal support, and community expectations in one of America’s premier Black economic hubs.
The story continues to evolve, with Atlanta’s vibrant entrepreneurial scene providing fertile ground for such discussions.
