First Look: ‘The Oval,’ Tyler Perry’s New BET Drama

    2 Min Read

Over the summer, local movie mogul Tyler Perry was filming “The Oval” at his studios in southwest Atlanta. We didn’t quite know what “The Oval” was about, but now we do.

“The Oval” trailer was debuted online as part of the launch of BET Plus, a new streaming service.

Atlanta-filmed ‘The Oval’ to debut on BET Plus

The subscription service will exclusively stream “The Oval,” which is one of two new shows that Perry has created for BET.

Just like Atlanta’s population, BET Plus will cater largely to African-Americans.

“African Americans are the leading consumers of streaming services, with higher SVOD adoption rates than other consumers, which is why we’re so excited to launch a premium product for this underserved audience,” Scott Mills, president of BET Networks said in a statement.

He adds: “BET+ is a natural extension of BET’s linear network, which has been the leading home of black culture for decades. Our curated catalog and original programming will keep the BET+ content offering fresh, fueling subscriber growth, viewership and retention.”

Perry, a playwright and actor in his own right, said in a statement that he is fully aware of his audience.

“I’ve paid attention to my audience and what works for them and, for that reason, I’m very excited not only about the idea of partnering with BET to create new and exciting content, but also about the idea of giving people a personalized experience through the ability to curate the content they love to consume.”

“The Real Housewives Of Atlanta” Season 12 cast group photo caused a stir on social media. Many fans are saying this is the best group photo they ever took.

Season 12 premieres November 3, 2019 at 8 ET / 7 central. Here’s what to know about RHOA Season 12.

Real Housewives Of Atlanta Season 12: What to know

Here is the cast for RHOA Season 12 as far as we know:

    • Nene Leakes
    • Kenya Moore
    • Cynthia Bailey
    • Eva Marcille
    • Kandi Burruss
    • Porsha Williams

It’s still not clear who will have recurring roles, but Bravo TV always signs a number of people that will have minor or supporting roles and plotlines.

A noticeable absence to longtime fans is Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Sherri Whitfield. Both of the former castmembers have returned for minor plots, but have not been welcomed back fully since their first few contracts.

Other minor players like Marlo Hampton will likely continue to be a sidekick with considerable screentime.

As we all know, Kenya Moore is returning after taking some time off to have a family.

Nene Leakes is also back after spending an extended time away to focus on show business.

Kandi Burruss is back taping while juggling recurring role on Showtime’s “The Chi” and handling the success of a soul food restaurant.

Atlanta reality TV shows showcase the best and worst of the city, but they have a following unlike anything we’ve seen in modern times.
