Underground Atlanta Transformation: Hotel, Housing, Nightclub Coming

    2 Min Read

The ongoing Underground Atlanta redevelopment just got a boost with the announcement of a new hotel to anchor the development.

Real estate investment company WRS shared its vision for Underground, which includes the area being a central hub for retail, commercial as well as hotel space.

Underground Atlanta getting hotel, housing, nightclub

The remaking of Underground Atlanta will focus on a four-block area of downtown. A hotel, workforce housing and a nightclub are in the works.

Here are the details on the plans for Underground Atlanta redevelopment:

Block One: Yotel hotel being built

On Block One, Yotel, an international hotel, will make its metro area debut. The space will include YotelPAD on the nearly 2-acre site.

In addition to hotels abroad, Yotel has four city-center hotels stateside in New York, Boston, San Francisco and Washington D.C..

    Block Two: Residential tower

Filling a much-needed housing need in downtown Atlanta, Block Two will consist of a residential tower. Development plans are in the permitting phase with an estimated start date end of 2020.

    Block Three: Workforce housing

On Block Three, around 130 housing units geared toward the workforce will be built by Prestwick Companies.

The workforce housing was originally planned for Block Two, but has been moved to the 3+ acre site at the southwest corner of Central and Alabama.

The housing will feature a mix of street-level retail focused on the needs of the neighborhood and Georgia State’s growing student body.

The development, known as The Avery, will hold around 130 units of housing with one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom options.

Around 104 units will be set aside as affordable for families earning 60% of the area median income or below. Around 26 units will go for the market rate.

Block Four: Future nightclub & restaurant

On Block Four, an LGBTQ+-friendly cabaret, restaurant and dance club called Future will find its home.

Located on the southwest corner of Pryor and Alabama, Future will be a 14,000-square-foot night club and restaurant geared toward LGBTQ+ patrons.

Owners Keith Young and Hoosh Mishu have signed a 10-year lease and have brought on Atlanta-based professional drag queen, Phoenix, who competed on “RuPaul’s Drag Race, to lead the cabaret show.

How To Operate A Lime Scooter In Atlanta (Safely)

    3 Min Read

UPDATE: Lime scooter has decided to leave several cities, including Atlanta. Lime scooters are no longer available here.

Lime scooters are pretty much on every nick and cranny in downtown and Midtown Atlanta streets. But don’t get fined. If you want to know how to operate a Lime scooter, here’s how.

Lime scooters launched their inaugural rides in 2017 in North Carolina powered by Neutron Holdings, who does business as Lime. Since then the electric scooters have spread across the United States, Mexico and elsewhere.

    How Do Lime Scooters Work?

To start riding Lime, there are four easy steps you need to take:

    • You just need to download the app for Android or iTunes.
    • A 4-digit code will be sent to you.
    • Of course, you’ll have to confirm that you are at least 18 years old.

Enable your camera so that you can use your phone to scan the QR code to start your ride. That’s it. You’re ready to ride! In addition to having an initiative with the Atlanta Beltline, Lime allows you to donate a slice of your Lime ride to another person.

What Are The Scooter Rules For Atlanta?

The City of Atlanta implemented new safety rules on June 21, 2019 governing scooters in the city. Here are the highlights: Reduced Speed Zone: There is an 8 mph limit for scooters along the portion of the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail between Monroe Drive and DeKalb Avenue.

Are Scooters Allowed On The Atlanta Beltline?

    Yes, but it will be subject to the Reduced Speed Zone on weekday evenings (Monday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.), weekends (Friday at 6 p.m. – Monday 6 a.m.), and state holidays (6 a.m. – 6 p.m.).

Can You Ride Scooters In Piedmont Park?

Yes, scooters are allowed in Piedmont Park’s shared use pathways. The city is also actively looking at setting up park zones for scooters.
