Numbers from the United States Agriculture Department (USDA) puts the number around 45,508, in 2017, the latest figures available. But there used to be nearly 1 million of them a century ago.
Those 45,508 black farmers make up just 1.3% of all farmers in the United States, according to the USDA.
What happened to them has been a bedtime story told in many a rural shack amid acres of lush greenspace.
After years of mistreatment by government officials, including the USDA, many black farmers gave up their land, equipment and turned to other work.
But things began to turn in 1997. That’s when black farmers sued the USDA for discrimination in the Pigford v Glickman case.
The farmers alleged their loans were systematically denied due to the color of their skin.
The lawsuit covered all African-American farmers who operated between January 1, 1981 and December 31, 1996. When other black farmers heard about the case too late, another lawsuit was filed on their behalf.
President Obama’s Administration presided over a $1.2 billion settlement on behalf of thousands of farmers, which gave them about $51,000 each.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines brought in the new year with very good travel news for passengers: free Wi-Fi on flights.
The news means that instead of paying $50 a month, frequent customers can enjoy internet service at no charge.
Delta Air Lines Flights To Get Free Wi-Fi
The airline made the announcement at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where companies unveil the latest tech developments in the works.
For Delta, the Wi-Fi rollout will be a gradual one with planes on the airline’s most popular routes first to receive it. After that, smaller jets and the wide-body aircraft used for international flights will get free internet service in 2024.
You’ll be able to know if your particular plane is enabled for Wi-Fi by an icon on display near the boarding area, the airline said.
How Much Does Delta Charge For Wi-Fi?
If your plane isn’t equipped for free Wi-Fi, Delta charges $7 for a one-hour pass. There are also monthly Wi-Fi plans available for purchase.
As we mentioned, it costs $49.95 for monthly access to Wi-Fi on all domestic flights that Delta has equipped for internet service.
What Airlines Have Free Wi-Fi?
Delta joins JetBlue Airways as the only other major airline to offer complimentary internet service to its customers.
Final Word
Free Wi-Fi is yet another perk that Delta is offering its passengers. The airline announced in January 2022 that travelers that the expiration date for any travel credits you still have has been extended through 2023.

One of the best taco spots in Atlanta recently opened another outpost in the metro area. The Vinings Jubilee location of bartaco is officially serving customers.
According to a news release, CEO and President of Paces Properties David Cochran and bartaco co-founder/CEO Scott Lawton, grew up together in Vinings. The two both were well familiar with the old Baptist church on the Vinings Jubilee property and decided to keep its steeple and structure and turn it into a restaurant.

Downtown Atlanta is going to be jumping up and down in the spirit this weekend. The Super Friends Praise Fest is coming to town.
The event is set for Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.
The show, which will be hosted by social media influencers Lexi Allen and Anna C. Douglas, will feature plenty of laughs, worship, and many of the industry’s top hits. Pastor Jamal Bryant will also make a special appearance.
