Atlanta film mogul Tyler Perry is back with his most personal film yet, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story.
The movie, which is part of Perry’s four-film deal with Amazon Studios, ventures into the upbringing and motivations of a young Emmitt Perry, who later changed his first name to Tyler to disassociate himself from his abusive father.
In the documentary, we see Perry’s dysfunctional childhood and how it played a role in the characters he would create and the stage and screen worlds he would later construct for millions of people.
When Is Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story Coming Out?
Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story is set to stream on November 17 on Amazon Prime.
In addition to his biopic, Perry’s other films with Amazon include:
- Black, White and Blue, which delves into police brutality.
- Divorce in the Black, which chronicles a broken marriage.
If you don’t have Prime, you can download it for free and use it for 30 days before you have to pay for it. The 30-day trial is one of the most generous in the streaming world.
Final Act
Perry is a busy man. In addition to casting for various projects in Atlanta, he also recently completed a WWII-era feature film, Six Triple Eight, for Netflix.

Marvel Studios has had an outstanding working relationship with Atlanta, Georgia, when it comes to film production. We have no reason to believe that won’t continue with Avengers: Secret Wars, the new movie that will re-establish the company’s superhero franchise.
Here’s everything we know about Avengers: Secret Wars so far:
While much about the movie remains to be seen and planned, what we do know is that Avengers: Secret Wars is part of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six and will follow Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
What Will Avengers: Secret Wars Be About?
The plot of Avengers: Secret Wars is yet to be divulged, but there is a fair amount of certainty that it will closely resemble the Secret Wars storyline from the epic comic book, which was a nine-issue miniseries. In that book, Doctor Doom and the Beyonders wreck havoc upon the Earth and the multi-verse.

Read the Secret Wars comic book.
When Will Avengers: Secret Wars Be Released?
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in theaters on May 5, 2026. Of course, that’s barring any major strikes. Marvel has been known to tweak the dates on some movies and series, but this one seems firm.
The Cast: Who Will Be In Avengers: Secret Wars?
There has been much speculation online about what superheroes will be returning for Avengers: Secret Wars. What we know for sure is that Wesley Snipes has been tapped to reprise his role as Blade in the movie. Also in the movie will be:
- Anthony Mackie as Captain America
- Benedict Wong as Wong
- Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier/White Wolf
- Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror
- Tom Holland as Spider-Man
- Kathryn Newton as Cassandra Kang
- Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk
- Dominque Thorne as Ironheart
- Chris Hemsworth as Thor
- Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
- Don Cheadle as War Machine

Will Iron Man Return In Avengers: Secret Wars?
So far, there is no word that Iron Man will return in Secret Wars. Marvel has made a concerted effort to turn to younger actors for its superheroes. It is highly unlikely that Robert Downey Jr. will be offered a contract to appear in a succession of new films.
Final Word
It remains to be seen whether Secret Wars will conclude Phase Six of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, but it just might. If so, you can bet the MCU’s top-grossing stars — along with Atlanta — will share the limelight once again down the road.

The Bronzelens Film Festival has arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, for its annual celebration of black visual creators. Among them is filmmaker Eternal Polk and his film, Gaining Ground: The Fight for Black Land.
The full-feature documentary was created with the help of longtime morning news journalist Al Roker and his Al Roker Entertainment production company, which teamed with farming-equipment manufacturer Deere & Co., to bring the tale of black farmers to the screen.
Among the topics discussed in the film are:
- Increasingly low numbers of black farmers and dwindling farmland.
- The legal entanglements created by “heirs property.”
- Causes and solutions to leveling the playing field when it comes to land ownership.
The film was underwritten by John Deere’s LEAP (Legislation, Education, Advocacy and Production Systems) program, which was formed by the company alongside the National Black Growers Council (NBGC) and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF).
AtlantaFi.com caught up filmmaker Eternal Polk and asked him about the issues that the film explores.
What Is The Film Gaining Ground About?
“It’s important for audiences for understand the history. We’re in a moment when our history is attempted to be aggressively erased. We cover the history of how we actually acquired land, how that land was lost by various means and then we focus on the leading culprit of that — which is heirs property — but we also talk about the solutions and the people in the trenches, in the field and those helping landowners to keep their land.”

Gaining Ground director Eternal Polk / AtlantaFi.com
Why Is Black Landownership So Important Right Now?
“When you look at farmland and landownership historically, initially it was a foundation for us to be able to vote. And on a level of providing a place to stay and having a safe place for your home and family, not to mention all the effort we’ve put into building this country, I think it’s only right that land is something that we address and have a conversation about.”
“Although there is a very strong conversation right now around reparations, I noticed that there has not been a very strong conversation about landownership for black folks or organizations taking the lead,” he said. “I think that’s why the LEAP Coalition program by John Deere is so important; because they identify something sustainable and it has generational impact and will close the wealth gap.”
We also spoke to Tharlyn Fox, LEAP manager for John Deere & Co., about the inequities that exist when it comes to landownership and how heirs property plays a major role in that.

Deere & Co. LEAP Manager Tharlyn Fox / AtlantaFi.com
“LEAP’s mission is to increase and improve the livelihood of black farmers, landowners and families as it relates to heirs property. Our overarching mission is to help them clear title to their land — not that it’s a singular issue for black farmers, but it is a big issue when it comes to black families and farmers. We do realize that that is the key to generational wealth and to helping them clear title to their land.”
Is Heirs Property Good Or Bad?
Fox says she wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a bad thing. “It’s a very fragile way of ownershhip for a family to have heirs property. If you have it, you cannot secure collateral for a loan because everyone who is an heir owns this property. So just imagine, if there’s a catastrophic incident like in Maui, or Katrina, it makes it very hard to take advantage of any government incentive programs supplied by FEMA and other agencies, because you then have to prove that you are entitled to this property.”
“It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but you want to make sure that you have clear title to the land because you want to make sure that you’re prosperous and productive with the land so that they can then buy equipment, they can lease it if they want, and ultimately pass this on to the next generation.”

Atlanta filmmaker Tyler Perry has hired an all-star cast for his WWII-era period piece called Six Triple Eight, which is about the 6888th battalion, the only all-black all-female battalion in World War II.
Big star Oprah Winfrey and Kerry Washington, who will also executive produce, have joined the film, which will initially stream on Netflix.
The film is based on an article by Kevin M. Hymel published in WWII History Magazine.
Tyler Perry Directing Six Triple Eight For Netflix
According to a synopsis from Netflix, Six Triple Eight tells the inspiring true story of the incredible and brave women of the only all-black, all-female World War 2 Battalion. These 855 women joined the war effort with little knowledge of what exactly they would be doing, but were quickly given the mission of a lifetime: sort through and fix the three-year backlog of undelivered mail.
The women rose to the task and succeeded in the face of discrimination, unfamiliar land, and a war-torn country. They persevered and sorted over 17 million pieces of mail, reconnecting American soldiers with their families and loved ones back home. The motto that kept them going each day was one they created themselves: “No Mail, Low Morale.” The women of the 6888 weren’t just delivering mail, they were delivering hope.
Who Is Producing Six Triple Eight?
Six Triple Eight is being executive produced by Peter Guber for Mandalay Pictures. Co-producers will be Nicole Avant for Her Excellency Productions; Keri Selig for Intuition Productions; Carlota Espinosa; Angi Bones and Tony Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios.
