  • Angela Bassett in Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever filmed in Atlanta, Georgia

Black Panther Sequel Back Filming Again After Stoppages

    4 Min Read

Filming for Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever has resumed once again after being shut down for a while in Atlanta. The last shutdown was reportedly due, to a COVID-19 outbreak among the cast members.

According to IGN, several actors, including Lupita Nyong’o, tested positive, leading to a pause in production.

The break, which lasted several days in accordance with COVID health protocols, came only days after the set resumed due to the holidays and serious injury to Letitia Wright, who suffered an on-set accident last fall.

With all the stoppages, Black Panther 2 is still trying to regain its momentum to finish production in Atlanta.

Nevertheless, the film continues to build excitement and looks to be yet another blockbuster movie for Marvel Studios.

Meanwhile, the film’s storyline, as you know, has decided to steer clear of depicting Chadwick Boseman after his untimely passing in August 2020.

One cast member, Angela Bassett has told media that there has been at least five different scripts for Black Panther 2.

“I don’t know what it’s going to look like at all. There have been about five incarnations of the script and I hear another one’s coming. Of course, with our dear king going on to glory, a lot of things had to be shifted and changed, so thankfully, Ryan [Coogler] and Joe Robert Cole, they’re just such masterful storytellers that they’ve found a way into this world and hopefully it will be satisfying, I think, for the fans and it will be honorable of our Chad. We love our king.”

Marvel Studios has revealed that Black Panther 2 will be released on July 8, 2022. The film also now has an official name: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

What Is The Plot of Black Panther Sequel?

One of the biggest surprises we’ve learned so far is that Narcos star Tenoch Huerta has been cast as Namor and that the plot involves the Sub-Mariner’s home of Atlantis. But whether he’s a villain or not remains to be seen.

As for what the plot will be, a logline has already leaked online, courtesy of The DisInsider. Here’s what it says:

Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilizations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear. Wakanda feared that their technology would be abused. Atlantis feared that surface dwellers would come and desecrate the mythical city just as they did so many years ago. And yet their fears escalate even further when these two once-hidden nations clash with each other. Wakanda and Atlantis have a shockingly intertwined history. Wakanda is the only county in the world with access to vibranium. However, rumors of its power spread throughout the world, and Namor’s human father was sent searching for this rare material in Antartica…

We can’t wait to read the rest!

Who Has Been Cast In Black Panther 2?

    • Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, T’Challa’s former lover and a War Dog, an undercover spy for Wakanda.
    • Danai Gurira as Okoye: Leader of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda’s all-female special forces and bodyguards to the king.
    • Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross: A member of the Central Intelligence Agency.
    • Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi: The head of security for the Border Tribe, Wakanda’s first line of defense.
    • Letitia Wright as Shuri: T’Challa’s teenage sister and Wakanda’s technology czar.
    • Winston Duke as M’Baku: The leader of Wakanda’s mountain tribe, the Jabari.
    • Angela Bassett as Ramonda: T’Challa and Shuri’s mother, the Queen Mother of Wakanda.

    Final Word

This much we know for sure:  Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever is one highly anticipate movie.

Speaking of Angela Bassett, the actress recently caught Sheila E. at City Winery in Atlanta, and when “Glamorous Life” came on, she blessed us with the moves!

Atlanta is rallying around Black Panther 2 something serious, especially after Coogler went to bat for Georgia-based businesses by agreeing to keep production in the Peach State. Casting calls have already began as well.

  • Ryan Coogler Georgia Black Panther production

Director Ryan Coogler: Black Panther 2 Will Remain In Georgia

    3 Min Read
Production on the sequel to Black Panther will remain in Georgia, according to its director.

Ryan Coogler penned a letter about Georgia’s recent passing of restrictive voting laws. In the article, which was published on several entertainment websites, Coogler acknowledges the destruction that Georgia’s recently passed voting laws could do to local businesses.

Black Panther 2 Director Ryan Coogler Says Production Will Remain In Georgia

Here is Coogler’s statement, according to Deadline.

The fight for full enfranchisement is fundamental to the African-American struggle in this country and to this country’s claim to functioning democracy. As an African-American, and as a citizen, I oppose all attempts, explicit and otherwise, to shrink the electorate and reduce access to the ballot. I say this as I return to Georgia, a state that holds a special place in my heart. I lived in Atlanta for eight months while filming my last movie. I have long looked forward to returning. But, when I was informed of the passage of SB202 in the state, and its ramifications for the state’s voters, I was profoundly disappointed.

But that’s also the reason why Coogler decided to keep production of Black Panther 2 in the Peach State.

“Many of the people employed by [Black Panther 2], including all the local vendors and businesses we engage, are the very same people who will bear the brunt of SB202,” Coogler wrote.

“Our film is staying in Georgia,” Coogler added. “Additionally, I have made a personal commitment to raise awareness about ways to help overturn this harmful bill, and continue to get educated on this matter from people on the ground. I will encourage everyone working with me to tap in with the local community directly affected by Senate Bill 202 and to leverage their influence and resources to aid in the fight for this particular and essential pillar of democracy.”

In response to the letter, political activist and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams tweeted her support of Coogler. “Thank you to Ryan Coogler and #BlackPanther2 for staying in Georgia and fighting for access to democracy. #gapol #WakandaForever
