My Review of The Centurion Lounge

When I went to the Centurion Lounge, maybe it was the time of year, but it was croweded.

The Centurion Lounge offers a mixed bag, overall, but I came away saying that I would be back. The food, while not exceptional, is solid for airport lounge standards, with a good variety of options that can satisfy as a pre-flight meal. The atmosphere is where the lounge shines, providing a comfortable, relaxing escape from the airport’s busy environment.

That said, it can get crowded during peak hours. Finding a seat may be difficult, and waits for drinks might take longer than expected due to the high volume of guests.

On the upside, the staff is friendly and attentive, keeping the space clean and welcoming. Despite the occasional overcrowding, the overall experience remains enjoyable, making it a worthwhile stop if you have some extra time before your flight.

How To Get Into the Centurion Lounge

The Centurion Lounge is a membership privilege for certain American Express card holders.

You can gain access to the Centurion Lounge — and bring two guests for free — if you have an Amex Platinum or Amex Business Platinum card and have spent over $75,000 on the card within the calendar year. If you haven’t met this spending threshold, you can still bring guests by purchasing a day pass, which costs $50 per adult and $30 per child aged 2 to 17.

What Are the Eligible AMEX Cards for Centurion Lounge Access?

As of now, the eligible Amex cards for Centurion Lounge access are:

    Hours of Operation

The Centurion Lounge is open the following times:

    • Monday: 6:00am-11:00pm
    • Tuesday: 6:00am-11:00pm

If you hold an eligible AMEX card, then why not?

Once again, here’s what you need to know before you sign up:

  • Southwest Announces Major Cuts To Operations in Atlanta

    5 Min Read

Southwest Airlines recently announced that it is reducing nearly a third of its flights at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest, following pressure from its investor, Elliott Investment Management, to improve the airline’s bottom line.

Southwest, based in Dallas, announced Thursday that it will reduce staffing and cut flight routes in the Southwest region. The changes are set to take effect in April 2025.

Big Changes Coming To Southwest in Atlanta

The airline will lower its weekly flights to and from Atlanta from 567 to 381, cutting service to 21 cities, down from 37.

Additionally, the Transport Workers Union Local 556, which represents Southwest’s flight attendants, has been informed that up to 200 attendants may be involuntarily displaced during the April 2025 bid period.

“Southwest feels that it has to make these moves, especially the reductions in Atlanta, to improve profitability,” Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said Thursday. “However, these decisions are impacting our flight attendants, the face of our airline, who have dedicated decades to Southwest.”

The changes were announced amid a very public back-and-forth between the airline and Elliott, which has only recently become an investor.

After Elliott called a special meeting to propose the seating of eight new board members, Southwest responded with a press release outlining its position.

”Elliott’s Special Meeting request is unnecessary and inappropriate considering the extreme nature of Elliott’s demands,” Southwest said in a statement. “The timing of Elliott’s request to apparently pursue Board control appears designed to maximize disruption of Southwest’s execution of its important business transformation underway as we approach one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Elliott’s actions highlight its lack of understanding of Southwest’s business and its insatiable need to put its own interests ahead of those of all Shareholders.”

Southwest Airlines’ bid to challenge Delta Air Lines in the Atlanta market has been a significant move but it may soon come to an end. That is particularly true due to Delta’s long-standing dominance in the region. Here’s the background of this competitive tug of war:

    1. Entry into the Atlanta Market (2011-2012)

    • Acquisition of AirTran Airways: In 2011, Southwest Airlines officially entered the Atlanta market by acquiring AirTran Airways, which had its hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This acquisition, completed in 2012, was key because it gave Southwest access to valuable gate space and routes at the world’s busiest airport.
    • Strategic Expansion: Through this acquisition, Southwest inherited a significant market share in Atlanta, which allowed it to challenge Delta’s dominance. AirTran had a strong customer base and operated several low-cost routes, which Southwest expanded upon, introducing its no-frills, low-cost business model to the Atlanta market.

    2. Southwest’s Goals in Atlanta

    • Undercutting Delta’s Prices: One of Southwest’s primary strategies in Atlanta was to provide low-cost flights on many of the same routes as Delta, appealing to price-conscious travelers and offering competition on both domestic and some international routes.
    • Expanding Routes: Southwest added new routes from Atlanta, focusing on popular domestic destinations, while gradually phasing out AirTran’s international routes. The airline aimed to leverage Atlanta’s strategic location for both business and leisure travelers.

    3. Challenges and Competition

    • Delta’s Dominance: Delta Air Lines has long had a stranglehold on the Atlanta market, using Hartsfield-Jackson as its primary hub. Delta’s deep integration with the local economy, corporate presence, and established relationships with local businesses and travelers posed a challenge for Southwest’s expansion.
    • Delta’s Response: In response to Southwest’s arrival, Delta aggressively matched fares on many routes, maintaining its market share through loyalty programs, superior customer service offerings, and extensive international routes.

    Final Word

While Delta remains the dominant carrier in Atlanta, Southwest has carved out a niche in the market, particularly among budget-conscious travelers. It has maintained a solid presence at Hartsfield-Jackson and continues to offer competitive fares on key domestic routes, although it is poised to shrink its operations there due to investor actions.

  • Wellstar To Redevelop Atlanta Medical Center

    4 Min Read

Wellstar Health System announced Thursday morning a partnership with the Integral Group to redevelop the Atlanta Medical Center site on Boulevard in Old Fourth Ward.

The redevelopment plan is in alignment with the land-use plan approved by the Atlanta City Council last month.

The new project, which includes housing, retail, greenspace, and a health and wellness component, has garnered support from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and various community groups.

“We look forward to working closely with the City to build on its revitalization efforts and bring our shared vision of a vibrant, healthy addition to the Old Fourth Ward,” said Candice Saunders, president and CEO of Wellstar Health System.

The Integral Group, a national development firm based in Atlanta and founded by Egbert Perry, first gained prominence by transforming Techwood Homes into Centennial Place, a mixed-income, mixed-use community. The company has since been involved in numerous community redevelopment projects across the country.

    Atlanta Medical Center’s Abrupt Closure

In October 2022, Wellstar announced the closure of the Atlanta Medical Center due to financial losses and declining patient volumes. This closure marked the end of its 120-year legacy and left a significant gap in healthcare services, particularly trauma care, in Atlanta’s downtown area.

    Community Impact

AMC’s closure was met with significant concern and protests from the local community, especially because of its central role in providing care to underserved populations and its status as a major employer in the area. Its shutdown left Grady Memorial Hospital as the primary trauma center for Atlanta, increasing pressure on that facility.

The Atlanta Medical Center (AMC), located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, had a long and storied history, playing a significant role in the city’s healthcare system for over a century before its closure.

    Early History

    • Founded: The hospital originally opened in 1901 as Tabernacle Infirmary, a small facility linked to the Tabernacle Baptist Church, founded by Reverend Len G. Broughton. The infirmary’s mission was to provide medical care to Atlanta’s underprivileged communities.
    • Growth and Name Changes: As the facility grew, it became known as Georgia Baptist Hospital in 1913, reflecting its new affiliation with the Georgia Baptist Convention. The hospital continued expanding throughout the 20th century, becoming a major teaching hospital.

    Mid-20th Century to Modern Era

    • Teaching Hospital: Over time, AMC became a full-service teaching hospital with a focus on advanced medical education. It was well-regarded for its residency programs, especially in trauma care, surgery, and internal medicine.
    • Acquisition by Tenet Healthcare: In 1997, Georgia Baptist Medical Center was sold to Tenet Healthcare, a national for-profit hospital system, and the facility was renamed Atlanta Medical Center. The hospital continued serving a diverse population, particularly in emergency and trauma care, as it held a Level 1 trauma center designation.

    Facilities and Specialties

    • Level 1 Trauma Center: As one of only a few Level 1 trauma centers in the state of Georgia, AMC was a crucial resource for critical emergency care, often treating victims of major accidents, shootings, and other trauma-related incidents.
    • Centers of Excellence: AMC also developed specialized programs for stroke care, heart surgery, orthopedics, and women’s health, attracting patients from across the region.

    Change in Ownership and Decline

In 2016, AMC was acquired by Wellstar Health System, a non-profit organization with hospitals in Cobb County and other parts of metro Atlanta. However, despite its historical significance and medical importance, the hospital faced financial challenges.

In announcing its closure in 2022, Wellstar said it had tried to turn a profit with AMC, but nothing worked.

“For several years, Wellstar has continued to invest in and operate AMC with significant losses to provide more time to partner on a creative, long-term, sustainable solution for the hospital’s future,” Wellstar CEO Candice L. Saunders said at the time. “After an exhaustive search for a solution that would support the healthcare needs of the community, we are disappointed that a sustainable solution at AMC has not emerged.”

Now, hope for the site has emerged anew.

    Final Word

While WellStar didn’t divulge a timeframe or talk financial numbers about the redevelopment plan for AMC, the news that the site would be turned into something productive was met with cheers.

How To Take Care Of a Glueless Wig

No matter how great the wig brand, taking care of a glueless wig is essential to ensure its longevity and maintain its natural appearance. Here are some general tips to help you care for your glueless wig:

    Clean the Wig

Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water to wash the wig. Gently comb out any tangles or knots before washing. Let the wig soak for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
Pat the wig dry with a clean towel and allow it to air dry on a wig stand to maintain its shape.

    Conditioning And Styling

Apply a good-quality conditioner designed for wigs after washing. Rinse it out thoroughly to keep the hair soft and manageable.

Avoid excessive heat styling, as it can damage the wig fibers. If heat is necessary, use a low-heat setting.
Use wig-friendly styling products and tools to maintain the wig’s texture and shine.

When it comes to brushing, use a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush to detangle the wig, starting from the ends and working your way up.
Avoid brushing the wig when it’s wet, as wet hair is more susceptible to breakage.

Avoid pulling the wig too tightly or securing it with accessories that could cause tension on your scalp.

Schedule regular maintenance and inspections with a professional wig stylist to ensure the wig’s condition and fit remain optimal.

Here’s the bottom line: Treat the wig as you would your natural hair, with care and gentleness.

    Final Strain

Handle the wig gently to prevent tangles and damage. Avoid pulling or tugging on the wig excessively during wear or removal.

Taking care of your hair is one of the best things you can do not only for your head, but for your entire health.

But you can do it yourself. All you need are some quality shears and some high-performance clippers to get the job done.  Check out our Beauty Page for other ways to get shaped up.

Georgia and Georgia Tech To Square Off in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2025

    4 Min Read

The 2025 rivalry game between Georgia Tech and Georgia will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the teams announced on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The game will mark the first time in the modern era that the “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate” matchup will be played outside of Bobby Dodd Stadium or Sanford Stadium.

Georgia Bulldogs vs. Yellowjackets at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

The football rivalry between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is one of the oldest and most storied in college football. Known as “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate,” the annual matchup is a fierce battle between the University of Georgia (UGA) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech).

While Georgia has been a perennial powerhouse for the last few decades, the Yellowjackets have had some good stretches among those years.

Here’s an overview of the football history between these two teams:

    Origins of the Rivalry

Georgia tech vs. Georgia football in 1893.
    • The rivalry began on November 4, 1893, with Georgia Tech defeating Georgia 28-6 in Athens, marking the start of a bitter competition.
    • The teams faced off regularly until the 1920s, when a conflict over player eligibility led to a brief pause in the rivalry. It resumed in 1925 and has been played annually ever since.

    Series History

    • The Georgia Bulldogs lead the overall series with a dominant record. As of 2023, Georgia holds a significant edge in the rivalry, with more than 70 victories.
    • The rivalry has featured several long win streaks by both teams, though Georgia has generally had the upper hand in modern times.

    Notable Moments

Georgia Tech vs. Georgia 1942 football
    • 1942: Georgia, led by Heisman Trophy winner Frank Sinkwich, defeated Georgia Tech 34-0. This was part of an undefeated season for the Bulldogs, who went on to claim their first consensus national championship.
    • 1952: Georgia Tech won a national championship under head coach Bobby Dodd, and that season they also beat Georgia 23-9, during a period when Tech dominated the rivalry.
    • 1999: One of the most controversial games in the rivalry. Georgia Tech won 51-48 in overtime, but a questionable call on a Georgia fumble late in the game led to the result being hotly debated for years.
    • 2008: Georgia Tech broke a seven-year losing streak with a 45-42 victory in Athens. It was their first win at Sanford Stadium since 2000.
    • 2019: Georgia Bulldogs won 52-7, showcasing their dominance in recent years as part of a run under head coach Kirby Smart.

    Program Success

    Hershel Walker vs. georgia tech
    • Georgia Bulldogs:
      • One of the most successful programs in college football, with four national championships (1942, 1980, 2021, 2022).
      • UGA has won 14 SEC championships and produced multiple Heisman Trophy winners, including Herschel Walker in 1982.
      • They are known for their dominance in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and have consistently been a national title contender.
    • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets:
      • Georgia Tech has won four national championships (1917, 1928, 1952, 1990).
      • They were a dominant force in college football in the mid-20th century under coaches like Bobby Dodd, but they now play in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), where they’ve seen less consistent success in recent decades.
      • Tech has produced several notable players and coaches, including Calvin Johnson and legendary coach Bobby Dodd.

    Recent Years

In recent years, Georgia has consistently been a top contender for national championships, while Georgia Tech has been in a rebuilding phase. This has led to several lopsided victories in favor of Georgia, though the rivalry remains deeply passionate for both fanbases.

The rivalry has also evolved beyond football, representing a larger cultural and academic competition between a public state university (Georgia) and a prestigious technological institute (Georgia Tech).

    2 Min Read

It’s official: The NFL has announced that Atlanta will host Super Bowl LXII in 2028, with the game taking place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
