For a quarter of a century, shoppers in the North Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta frequented Plato’s Closet for gently-used and brand-name clothing and other wares — but no more. The store was abruptly evicted on July 3, 2025.
Images and video on social media showed thongs of shoppers wading through clothing that had been tossed on the curb off Briarcliff Road in Atlanta.
According to multiple news sources, the eviction took place around 9:30 a.m. at the store off Briarcliff Road. Video footage and social media reports indicate that after the eviction, clothing was left outside, and people were seen taking items, with some describing the scene as chaotic.
Plato’s Closet is just the latest Atlanta retailer to shut its doors.

Waffle House has announced that it has removed the 50-cent surcharge that it enacted last winter.
In a June 2 message on social media, the chain restaurant said, “Egg-cellent news…as of June 2, the egg surcharge is officially off the menu. Thanks for understanding!”
The 50-cent surcharge on all egg items was imposed due to rising egg prices caused by the ongoing bird flu outbreak.
The surcharge took effect on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, so that means any Waffle House in Atlanta has higher eggs nows. In fact, the surcharge is in effect at all of the company’s more than 2,000 U.S. locations.
In a statement, the restaurant chain attributed the price increase to the highly contagious virus, which has significantly impacted the chicken population and led to an egg shortage. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 13 million hens have been lost or culled since December due to the outbreak.
“Consumers and restaurants are being forced to make difficult decisions,” Waffle House Inc. said in its statement.
Over the past year, the average price of a dozen eggs in the U.S. has surged by 50%, with costs rising even more sharply since November, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“While we hope these price fluctuations will be short-lived, we cannot predict how long this shortage will last,” the statement read.

Was That a Tornado in Cobb County?
According to meteorologists, what occurred that day in Cobb was not a tornado, but what is known as a “scud cloud.”
What Is a Scud Cloud?
A scud cloud, also known as pannus cloud or fractus cloud, is a low-hanging, ragged cloud formation often seen beneath other clouds, particularly during thunderstorms.
They are frequently mistaken for funnel clouds or tornadoes due to their appearance and movement, but scud clouds are harmless and lack the organized rotation of those more dangerous formations.
Cowboy State Daily meteorologist Don Day says in Wyoming, scud clouds are frequent.
“When you get into a thunderstorm situation, there’s a lot going on at the base of those clouds,” Day is quoted as saying. “You can get these little vortices that will spin off the base of a cloud and take a piece of cloud with it. Scud clouds are basically pieces that have broken off larger clouds.”
Appearance and Formation:
- Scud clouds are typically low-hanging, ragged, and detached from the main cloud base.

The flight departs Atlanta at 9:40 AM, arriving in Grenada at 3:15 PM. The return flight leaves Grenada at 4:30 PM, arriving in Atlanta at 8:50 PM. Bookings are now available.

The GTA’s week of activations successfully engaged top-tier travel advisors, media, and members of Atlanta’s influential Grenadian diaspora.
The festivities began on Monday, June 9, with an immersive Mixology Masterclass at Breakfast at Barney’s, one of Atlanta’s most iconic brunch destinations.
The evening was led by Afiya Neckles, Marketing Manager for Clarke’s Court Distillery in Grenada, and introduced guests to a curated tasting experience featuring Grenada’s world-class Clarke’s Court Rums and a newly launched spice-flavored Grenada Cocktail Spice Syrup.
Guests—ranging from Atlanta’s top influencers and mixologists to members of the diaspora—were the first to try the debut signature cocktail, Spice Isle Rocks, inspired by Grenada’s vibrant flavors and cocktail culture.

Torrential rain flooded parts of Atlanta at dusk on Friday, June 27 as power outages spread throughout the metro area.
The massive storm churned through neighborhood after neighborhood, toppling power poles, transformers, and causing lines too fall down.
Images and videos shared on social media showed standing water in Clayton County south of Atlanta and flooded streets north of the city.
- The National Weather Service has upgraded Atlanta’s conditions to a “Considerable Damage” Flash Flood Warning — a serious alert.
- In Forsyth County, Carolene Way was closed to the south Atlanta Hwy due to flooding.
- A flash flood warning was issued for Sandy Springs and Roswell until 11:45 PM.
- Flooding caused delays along Interstate 75, where multiple lanes of the interstate are flooded near CW Grant Parkway.
Severe Thunderstorms Bring Flooding To Atlanta
Atlanta has been experiencing a lot of rain this month.
The day began with a weather forecast indicating a high of 90°F and a low of 69°F. The day was started with partly cloudy skies in the morning, with thunderstorms rolling in the afternoon, carrying a 90% chance of rain and 0.54 inches of precipitation.
A motorist on I-75 showed high levels of water on the thoroughfare as evening set.
Storms were predicted to bring strong, gusty winds. By evening, thunderstorms were expected to continue, with a 70% chance of rain and 0.09 inches of precipitation, followed by partly cloudy skies after midnight.
Winds were forecasted to be light and variable during the day, shifting to WSW at 5 to 10 mph at night.
The potential for severe thunderstorms materialized in the afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning followed by heavy rainfall.
Power Outages Spread Throughout Metro Atlanta
In addition to flash flooding, power outages proliferated as downed power lines and tree limbs cut off electricity to thousands across the city.
Georgia Power posted a response statement, saying, “Severe weather, including powerful winds and heavy rain, have and will continue to impact the state throughout the night. Our crews are working and repairing damage as soon as conditions allow and it’s safe to do so, with flash flooding conditions in many areas. Thank you for your patience as we work to reconnect those impacted by this weather.”
The company directed those affected to watch the status of electricity restoration on their website.
