  • Playboi Carti On Atlanta: ‘This Is The Home Of Hip-Hop’

    2 Min Read
Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti is making waves with as the hype rises for the release of his third full-length album, “Whole Lotta Red.”

The artist, born Jordan Carter, lives in a Buckhead mansion with his girlfriend, Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea. While some people evidently know this, most of hip-hop-dom found this out from a recent interview with Fader magazine.

Playboi Carti: Atlanta is home of hip-hop

During the sitdown, Playboi Carti makes it known that his hometown of Atlanta has the music game on lock.

“This is the home of the whole hip-hop,” he tells Fader. “Niggas ain’t f*** with us on this music s**, and I ain’t just talking about me.”
Atlanta music has certainly made a name for itself over the past 30 years. But it really took off with the creation of LaFace Records in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
That’s what propelled a young Andre Benjamin to tell the hip-hop world at the Source Awards that “Atlanta got something to say.”
Playboi Carti has a point that the ATL is likely where the next big music superstar will come from. He says when he big ups Atlanta’s musical success, it’s not a reference to himself.

Atlanta artists with #1 or #2 singles

“I’m talking about the next nigga that we don’t even know about right now, making a song. He’s from Atlanta,” he tells Fader.
Is Playboi Carti just blowing smoke? Or does he know a thing or two about ATL music?

Here are the Atlanta artists with #1 and #2 singles — from CeeLo, to TLC, Monica, Ludacris, Lil Jon, Ciara, Outkast, Usher, T.I. … (takes a breath)… Shop Boyz, DL4, Young Jeezy, Toni Braxton … and many more.
