Legendary Atlanta Journalist Monica Pearson Joins The AJC

    3 Min Read

One of Atlanta’s most recognizable faces is joining one of its most trusted media organizations. Legendary journalist  Monica Pearson will join the AJC as the host of a new weekly video program and podcast, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution announced.

As an AJC contributor, Pearson will host The Monica Pearson Show. She will also write a regular lifestyle newsletter and column for both AJC.com and the newspaper, in addition to hosting AJC Live events, according to a news release.

The Monica Pearson Show To Premiere On The AJC

Pearson has been an icon in local broadcasting for nearly four decades, spending much of that time informing and entertaining the community on WSB Television. Currently, she hosts Monica Pearson One on One on PeachtreeTV. She will bring her talent and experience to the AJC during a time of investment and innovation.

“This is a full circle moment for me since I started my paid journalism career in 1969 as a reporter for The Louisville Times newspaper in my hometown of Louisville, KY. This is another opportunity for me to do what I love doing, interviewing people. After an interview, my slogan simply is, ‘You know the name and now you will know the person.'”

Pearson’s arrival comes as the AJC is charting a course to transform the storied 155-year-old newspaper into a modern media company. In addition to bolstering the world-class journalism the AJC is known for, the organization is also expanding its content offerings and investing in audio, video, newsletters, and live events. Pearson’s show will live alongside the AJC’s expanded podcast slate, which includes Politically Georgia and Breakdown, and it will mark the first weekly video program in the AJC’s history.

“We’ve established a mission to be the most essential and engaging source of news for the people of Atlanta, Georgia, and the South,” said AJC President and Publisher Andrew Morse, who joined the organization this year. “That effort begins here in our community. And nobody is more Atlanta than Monica. We are thrilled for her to bring her talent to the AJC.”

Pearson has won 33 regional and local Emmy awards for her work, including being inducted into the Atlanta Press Club, National Association of Black Journalists, University of Kentucky Journalism, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. In addition to her broadcast career, she hosts a monthly radio segment, titled “A Monica Moment.”

Pearson’s arrival is just the latest prominent editorial hire for the AJC. Leroy Chapman Jr. was named editor-in-chief in March, becoming the first Black editor in the paper’s history. Earlier this month, Chapman announced the hiring of Sharif Durhams from the Washington Post to be the AJC’s Managing Editor for news.

“Visiting from out of town. Had a pretty good time. Found them on eventbrite cause we were looking for something to get into. Parking closest to the club on the street was $20 & $40 for valet. We just parked a little further up the street and paid nothing. The lounge itself was posh, nice design, the DJ was jamming. The audience is so different now going out. People don’t really dance. They just stand around looking at each other and their phones. Drinks were a bit pricey. The seating is a little interesting. You can basically sit anywhere up until a waitresses or someone asks you to move because someone bought the table/sections.”

Wine & Culture Festival Coming To Atlanta

The Wine + Culture Festival is set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia, this summer. The event is one of Atlanta’s best festivals.

The Wine & Culture Festival, hosted by The Hue Society, is back with its 5th annual festival bringing wine enthusiasts and the Culture together to experience their theme, “Kingdom Come: Celebrating the Table We’ve Built,” during this epic weeklong event.

When Is The Wine & Culture Festival Being Held?

The Wine & Culture Festival will be held July 23 – 30, 2023. The event is the most inclusive wine festival dedicated to consumer education, brand awareness, industry advancement, and cultural experiences through the Black lens.

“We are excited to bring this Festival back to Atlanta for the fifth year! We receive amazing support from national and global brands for the Festival – this year we are really hoping to tap into the wonderful talent and top companies in Atlanta to join us. Our presence at the Underground Atlanta is significant,” says Tahiirah Habibi, the Festival’s Founder and a top celebrity sommelier. “This is a perfect venue to make the Festival both family-friendly and have adult fun at one of Atlanta’s most historical landmarks, both above ground and underground.”

The signature two-day event, “The Mansion Underground,” is a cultural movement where the historic Underground Atlanta will transform into creatively curated theme-activated rooms representing the Culture with vivid backdrops, selfie spots, fierce DJs, and of course wine and food tastings. The festival’s location re-imagines the resilience and power of Black, brown, and indigenous communities by celebrating the tables that they’ve built.

Just a few of our highly anticipated events during the week include:

    • The Legacy Dinner, honoring those who have made a significant impact and contributions to the food, wine, and beverage industry.
    • The Rosé Lounge culminates the phenomenal week of festivities with an abundance of Rosé and good vibes.
    • Several of these events will take place at the festival’s host hotel, The Thompson Hotel Buckhead, a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Atlanta.
