Donald Williams, CEO/founder of Atlanta-based small business consulting firm, Suivant Consulting, created and recently launched the Mom Boss Grant.
The $1,000 grant was created to support Atlanta’s single mother entrepreneurs on their entrepreneurial journeys.
Know A Single Mom In Atlanta? Get Them To Apply For A Mom Grant
Williams hopes that the grants can help eliminate some of the barriers to funding that many women entrepreneurs face as they try to build their businesses.
“My mother has always played a strong role in my life,” Williams says in a statement. “I currently own two businesses with offices in two different states and I credit the words and encouragement from my mom for much of my success. As an accountant and small business consulting, I understand the difficulties many women face acquiring funding. As if it wasn’t hard enough, mothers – who split their time between building their business, managing employees and raising a family – tend to find it more difficult just finding time to access funds. That is why the Mom Boss grant is so important to me.”
Williams has long been someone who gives back to the community. In February 2020, he presented one deserving entrepreneur with a $5,000 grant through the “Be Your Own Boss” pitch competition. He has also worked closely with the Atlanta Children’s Shelter’s annual Christmas toy drive.
How To Apply For A Mom Boss Grant
A winner will be notified by Friday, May 7, and announced publicly on Mother’s Day, May 9.

Darnika Platt has always been an entrepreneur. The Grand Rapids, Michigan-born woman has hustle in her blood.
“I come from a family of entrepreneurs. My family owns flower shops and tax businesses. I’ve been doing taxes since I was 16-years-old, working with my parents. When I was old enough, I started my own tax practice that lasted for years,” she says.
ManCave Atlanta: Everything You Need To Know
After living in Atlanta for some time, she came upon an idea near and dear to every man’s heart: a spa that caters to the male.
But at first, she didn’t know if she had something or not. A good business idea sometimes has to pass muster with those closest to you
“I’m someone who loves to pamper herself so I often go to spas and nail salons. One time I tried to get my husband to go and it was like pulling teeth,” she says. But she was determined to find out if her idea would work.
Platt set out to quiz men on their preferences and whether pampering was something they’d want to experience.
“It turns out there are a lot of men who like getting manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages,” she adds.
They say any successful business is one that finds a problem and offers a solution. Platt says one day she found her solution.
“There’s also a lot of men who don’t get those services but need to. The problem is that most of these services are marketed towards women and the facilities where a person would go are geared more toward women.”
Enter ManCave Atlanta!
Tucked in the Lindbergh development in Buckhead, ManCave Atlanta officially opened its doors in December 2020. “But we’ve actually been doing things, here and there, a little prior to the pandemic,” she says.
How Does ManCave Work?
ManCave is a membership-based business. Because it’s male-centered, only men can become members and receive access to ManCave’s cigar lounge, business lounge and more perks.
You may be wondering if you’re not a member can you still experience ManCave Atlanta. Yes, you can. Women and men can walk in and get spa services as well.
Platt produced every touch of her facility and so far the men who visit love the experience. But that’s not all she has up her sleeve.
Platt says she wanted to offer something that men would not only want but need in their lives.
“It was my idea to create a place that is made just for men, where they would be comfortable getting these types of services. If you’re a man and you want to get a manicure or pedicure, which a lot of high-profile and professional men do, most of the time you have to visit a nail salon, it’s the exact opposite of a barbershop atmosphere and you have to smell a lot of nail polish and acrylic.”
Where Is ManCave Atlanta Located?
ManCave Atlanta is located at 2139 Liddell Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30324. Here’s a map to help you find it.
What’s Next For ManCave Atlanta?
Platt says the business is looking to expand into the events space. “We are working on having more creative events that are tailored to professional and upscale men. From business-related events to exclusive experiences. And we hope to expand within the next couple of years.”
“We want to be the place where men can get off work and come to relax,” Platt says.

Production on the sequel to Black Panther will remain in Georgia, according to its director.Ryan Coogler penned a letter about Georgia’s recent passing of restrictive voting laws. In the article, which was published on several entertainment websites, Coogler acknowledges the destruction that Georgia’s recently passed voting laws could do to local businesses.
Black Panther 2 Director Ryan Coogler Says Production Will Remain In Georgia
Here is Coogler’s statement, according to Deadline.
The fight for full enfranchisement is fundamental to the African-American struggle in this country and to this country’s claim to functioning democracy. As an African-American, and as a citizen, I oppose all attempts, explicit and otherwise, to shrink the electorate and reduce access to the ballot. I say this as I return to Georgia, a state that holds a special place in my heart. I lived in Atlanta for eight months while filming my last movie. I have long looked forward to returning. But, when I was informed of the passage of SB202 in the state, and its ramifications for the state’s voters, I was profoundly disappointed.
But that’s also the reason why Coogler decided to keep production of Black Panther 2 in the Peach State.“Many of the people employed by [Black Panther 2], including all the local vendors and businesses we engage, are the very same people who will bear the brunt of SB202,” Coogler wrote.“Our film is staying in Georgia,” Coogler added. “Additionally, I have made a personal commitment to raise awareness about ways to help overturn this harmful bill, and continue to get educated on this matter from people on the ground. I will encourage everyone working with me to tap in with the local community directly affected by Senate Bill 202 and to leverage their influence and resources to aid in the fight for this particular and essential pillar of democracy.”
In response to the letter, political activist and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams tweeted her support of Coogler. “Thank you to Ryan Coogler and #BlackPanther2 for staying in Georgia and fighting for access to democracy. #gapol #WakandaForever

Bird scooters are pretty much on every nick and cranny in downtown and Midtown Atlanta streets. But don’t get fined.
If you want to know how to operate a Bird scooter, here’s how.
Bird scooters arose on city streets in 2017. The Santa Monica, California startup entered the electronic scooter market with other competitors literally on its heels.
Here’s How To Operate A Bird Scooter In Atlanta
To operate a bird scooter, follow the following steps:
- Download the Bird app for either Android or Apple.
- Enter your credit card information. You can load increments of $10 on the card.
As you can see below, if you add $20 or $50, there’s a bonus included.
How much does it cost to rent a Bird scooter?
Although you’ll have to load $10 onto the app, it only costs $1 and then 15 cents a minute to ride. A 2-mile ride takes about 10 minutes and costs less than $3.
To operate the scooter, you’ll need to scan the QR code in the app. Here’s a screenshot of how that looks.
After you’ve scanned the QT code with your phone, the scooter will be activated. You’re ready to ride!
What Are The Scooter Rules For Atlanta?
The City of Atlanta implemented new safety rules on June 21, 2019 governing scooters in the city. Here are the highlights:
Reduced Speed Zone: There is an 8 mph limit for scooters along the portion of the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail between Monroe Drive and DeKalb Avenue.
Are Scooters Allowed On The Atlanta Beltline?
Yes, but it will be subject to the Reduced Speed Zone on weekday evenings (Monday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.), weekends (Friday at 6 p.m. – Monday 6 a.m.), and state holidays (6 a.m. – 6 p.m.).
Can You Ride In Scooters In Piedmont Park?
Yes, scooters are allowed in Piedmont Park’s shared use pathways.
The city is also actively looking at setting up park zones for scooters. These park zones will help reduce clutter and allow for accessibility at entrances to the trails.
Final Word
There are other electric scooters in Atlanta besides Bird, but none are more prevalent.
Whatever you do, keep safe while you ride a Bird. Look both ways when you cross the street and be mindful of pedestrians.
First, to find all the good things happening in the city this week, all you have to do is take a look at downtown Atlanta. That’s where some of the best restaurants are as well as where the visitors, namely tourists, are. Downtown Atlanta or Midtown often has something cool going on!
The fun is just starting. Are you a beer drinker? You also may want to visit a craft brewery in the city.
