Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz has apologized following a heated discussion with popular food reviewer Keith Lee on Kirk Franklin’s Den of Kings, clarifying that he spoke with Lee afterward and that the interaction was “all love.”

In a post on social media on November 3, 2026, 2 Chainz wrote: “I got a chance to speak to Keith after the podcast and it was all love. I know my words offended some people and I apologize for that. What I said and what I meant were two different things. I could’ve done a better job getting my point across.” He signed the message “Toni.”

2 Chainz Apologizes After Viral Exchange with Keith Lee on Celebrity Perks and Restaurant Reviews

The exchange occurred during a recent episode of Den of Kings, recorded live at Clark Atlanta University and featuring 2 Chainz, Keith Lee, comedians Mojo Brookzz and Desi Banks, and host Kirk Franklin. The conversation covered personal journeys, social anxiety, faith, and success before turning to restaurant culture.

2 Chainz brought up what he believed was Lee’s negative review of his Esco Restaurant & Tapas. “I saw you do my restaurant. I saw you do other people’s restaurants,” he said, while acknowledging it was ultimately “your opinion” and “your taste buds.”

He pushed back on the idea that restaurants should treat everyone the same, arguing that celebrities earn privileges through their work: “I’m an entertainer, and obviously we get perks that other people don’t get. That’s just period, my boy. I don’t stand in line at the airport. I don’t do none of that because I done work my ass off to do this.” He questioned whether waiting 40 minutes for a table was reasonable for someone in his position and also raised whether Lee’s background as a former MMA fighter and his focus on nutrition influenced his food critiques.

Keith Lee stood firm on his review process. He explained that he approaches reviews as a consumer invested in Black communities rather than as a professional chef, and that he deliberately tests the experience ordinary customers receive. Lee said he has sent family members, including his mother-in-law, into restaurants anonymously; they often faced long waits or poor service, while he was seated immediately once recognized. “I don’t ever want to put nobody in a situation that they get a different experience only because they not Keith Lee,” he stated. He added that restaurants invite him knowing they will receive an honest opinion: “You ask me to come get my opinion, but then you get upset because my opinion not what you wanted to hear.”

A key detail quickly emerged online: Keith Lee had not publicly reviewed Esco Restaurant & Tapas. The critical assessment 2 Chainz referenced was actually posted by fellow food reviewer Mr. Chimetime in 2024. Mr. Chimetime’s video criticized several dishes, including bland chicken, spoiled fried chicken, and under-seasoned macaroni, though he still encouraged viewers to visit and form their own opinions. The two reviewers share some visual similarities, which appears to have contributed to the mix-up.

Clips of the conversation spread rapidly, prompting strong reactions. Many viewers sided with Lee’s emphasis on consistent service for everyday customers and criticized 2 Chainz’s defense of special treatment as elitist. Fans specifically called for an apology over the mistaken attribution of the review. 2 Chainz had earlier posted (and reportedly deleted) a message on Threads questioning definitions of hard work and success, including a reference to the Illuminati, which drew further criticism.

Reactions to the apology have been mixed. Some viewed it as a sincere effort to clarify intent and noted the private conversation with Lee. Others saw it as damage control, arguing that 2 Chainz had expressed exactly what he meant about celebrity privileges. The original Den of Kings episode remains available on YouTube, where the restaurant discussion begins roughly 16 minutes in.

The episode underscores ongoing tensions in the restaurant industry around influencer reviews, Black-owned businesses, and the gap between the experience celebrities receive and what regular diners encounter. 2 Chainz’s statement indicates the two have moved past the on-camera friction, at least privately.
