    Emory ASA Presents Afropolitan In Atlanta

    Emory University’s African Students Association presents its annual benefit gala, Taste of Africa at Fox Theater from on Friday the 5th of April, 2019.

    The show themed ‘AFROPOLITAN’ begins at 6.30pm and shall be hosted by Nigerian comedian, Aphrican Ace.

    Things to do this weekend: Afropolitan in Atlanta

    Come experience mouth-watering African cuisine as well as spoken word, musical and dance performances from Abyssinian Experience, Zuri, AUC Vybz, Persuasion and more.

    Fashion exhibitions from Adedammy Designs and Love, D.Jenee

    Shuttles will run from Woodruff Circle to the Fox Theatre and back.

    Taste of Africa is sponsored by Emory University’s African Studies, African-American Studies, French and Sociology Departments as well as the Emory Alumni Association, Emory Dining, RACE and Residence Life.

    What’s the dress code?

    Dress to impress.

    Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

    You must purchase your ticket with a name that corresponds with a form of identification you will show at the event. There are no minimum age requirements.

    What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

    There will be shuttles from Emory University to the Fox Theatre and back. If you choose to drive, you will need to pay at least $10 for parking at the venue.

    What’s the refund policy?

    All ticket sales are final.

    Hugo’s Oyster Bar’s Crawfish Boil In Roswell Set For April 13

    Do you love seafood? Then you don’t want to miss Hugo’s Oyster Bar’s annual Crawfish Boil coming up.

    The crawfish boil is set for Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 12 to 5 p.m. Hugo’s annual live crawfish boil will have crawfish by the pound and delicious side items for the whole family.

    There’s also going to be live music. The Catfish Hill Roberts and Bottom Band will perform for the masses.

    Hugo’s is a favorite place for North Fulton residents. The restaurant offers a daily happy hour Monday through Friday. If you come between 3 to 6:30 p.m., you can get a great appetizer, cocktail, beer and wine special.

     El Viñedo Local Opens In Midtown Atlanta

    A new South American tapas and wine bar has opened in Midtown Atlanta after several delays. El Viñedo Local opened its doors in early 2021, AtlantaFi.com has learned.

    For now, the establishment’s hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to its website.

    El Viñedo Local means  “The Local Vineyard” in English. And that’s exactly what the new Atlanta restaurant inspires to be.

     El Viñedo Local Now Serving In Midtown Atlanta

    The eatery serves small plates, South American-inspired dishes for now. Wine and coffee are coming later.

    “We are excited that El Viñedo Local will become a part of the growing energy of Midtown, and we’re looking forward to offering our guests the ability to socialize and explore wines in a unique setting,” the owner Robert Kaster said in a press release.

    Join us for a gathering with Author Leah Penniman, Soul Fire Farm’s Founding Co-Director & Program Manager. Leah Penniman will be discussing her book, Farming While Black: Soul Fire Farm’s Practical Guide to Liberation of the Land.

    This event will be held Sunday, March 24 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at Spelman College, Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center Auditorium 420 Westview Dr. S.W. Atlanta, GA 30310.

     ‘Farming While Black’ Author To Speak at Atlanta’s Spelman College

    Due to Heavy Demand A Second Viewing Option is Now Available – We have added an Overflow Viewing Room with 120 seats on site. The gathering with Leah Penniman will be live video Simulcast on 4 screens in the lower level Conference Room.

    Leah Penniman will share the stage with Naima Penniman of Climbing Poetree, followed by a panel discussion of local black farmers, including Chris Edwards of Mayflor Farms, JoVonna Johnson-Cooke of MaituFoods & Grow Where You Are, Ras Kofi of On Da Farm and Jamila Norman of Patchwork City Farms. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Ashanté Reese of the Spelman College Food Studies Program.

    A book signing will follow the panel discussion. Books will be available to purchase at the event, or you can bring your own copy to be signed. Chef Zu of Kings Apron, plant based chef and holistic nutritionist will provide a tasting during the book signing.
