The coronavirus pandemic has no doubt caused upheaval in the restaurant industry, but it has also upended food writers in a very real way.
One Atlanta food writer has done what she can to restore some sense of normalcy — at least what they can mean today — by doing what she does best: restaurant stuff.
Atlanta Woman Opens Doorstep ‘Restaurant’ For Chipmunk
Angela Hansberger created a little restaurant on her doorstep for a chipmunk, who visits to dine in every day.
The eatery consists of a small table and miniature utensils and napkins that you would find in any other eating establishment.
Hansberger dutifully changes the menu each day, offering the chipmunk anything from veggie pizza to imitation sushi with walnut wontons and more.
For his part, the chipmunk, which Hansberger has nicknamed “Thelonious Monk,” often pays for his meal with a little stash he brings with him to the table.
“The reviews have been great,” she tells CBS News. “One day he came up with this little tiny bundle – waded up leaves – and put it on the table. So, I take it to mean he brought a tip.”
Since the first couple months of the pandemic, many Atlanta restaurants have clawed their way back. These local eateries have reopened and are serving food.

Slutty Vegan has opened a third location in metro Atlanta, this time on Edgewood Avenue. The grand opening was Saturday, October 24, AtlantaFi.com has learned.
The Atlanta restaurant is the hottest plant-based eatery in metro Atlanta. The venture was started by entrepreneur Pinky Cole, a former television producer, who started a food truck business two years ago.
The Edgewood location brings Cole’s meatless restaurant to Midtown Atlanta, right in the middle of the city’s gilded restaurant scene and just a few blocks away from the childhood home of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
“We are thrilled to move into the historic Edgewood District of Atlanta,” Cole said in a news release. “Edgewood is the exact neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. grew up, and with his birth home being located directly behind Slutty Vegan, I know he has my back. It’s a true blessing to continue opening new locations when there are so many other small businesses whose doors have closed during the global pandemic. I want to empower those business owners to never give up on their dreams and continue to fight for what they love and what I know they too can accomplish.”
Slutty Vegan Opens Edgewood Location
Cole opened a Slutty Vegan restaurant in Jonesboro south of the city earlier this year. with the plant-based cuisine enjoying unprecedented popularity, Cole is planning on expanding to Birmingham, Alabama and as many as 13 locations as well.
Meanwhile at Slutty Vegan’s Edgewood location, customers can purchase from a retail market on the site. You can pick up seasoning, spices and “Sluttified” memorabilia as well.
Where Is Slutty Vegan’s Edgewood Restaurant Located?
Slutty Vegan’s Edgewood restaurant is located at this address: 482 Edgewood Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30312
In January 2019, Cole opened Slutty Vegan in southwest Atlanta in the Westview neighborhood. Since then the 100% plant-based southwest Atlanta restaurant has been packing in crowds.
The eatery has also grown a national following, thanks to Cole’s background in media and celebrity clientele and connections.
She has also brought pop-ups to other parts of the country, including Miami, Florida. But for now, she is concentrating on growing in metro Atlanta.
Slutty Vegan Plans To Add Location In 2021
Aside from Slutty Vegan locations in Jonesboro, Edgewood and Westview, Atlanta is having a restaurant renaissance. Hot chicken is the rage in Atlanta’s dining scene right now. But so are chicken and waffles.
