The Canopy By Hilton, a new hotel on 1414 West Peachtree St. NW, opened in Atlanta in mid-December. It’s first-floor restaurant, Xhibit, opened in early January to the delight of hotel guests.
Canopy boasts 170+ rooms in a gem of a location just off the Interstate 75 corridor between 14th Street and Atlantic Station. The hotel has a number of art installations from local artists that gave the lobby and adjacent rooms a decidedly ATL flair.
Canopy hotel opens in Midtown Atlanta
The hotel’s restaurant, Xhibit Studio Kitchen & Bar, is a small but mighty restaurant helmed by chef Christian Messier. The eatery, which will serve seafood dishes, American cuisine and tasty desserts. After personally tasting the cobbler, I can say this is one of the best hotel restaurants in Atlanta.
Here are some of the best features at the Canopy hotel in Midtown:
- Just-Right rooms with comfy beds, free W-Fi and a 55-inch TV
- Xhibit features a café, bar and complimentary evening tastings
- Three meeting rooms and an elevated outdoor terrace with fireplace
- 24-hour fitness center and complimentary Canopy Bikes
The Canopy branded was first conceptualized in Iceland in 2014. Four years later, the concept was brought to the United States. Atlanta’s Canopy hotel opened just in time for the Super Bowl. For that weekend, the first in February, the hotel has only a handful of rooms left, a manager told AtlantaFi.com.
The rooms at the Canopy are all the same size and are distinguished by either two queens or a king-size bed. The layouts are drastically different though, with guests being able to have access to refillable water in the hallways.
I haven’t been to all the hotels in the ATL, but the Canopy hotel ranks pretty high among the boutique variety.

Get ready Atlanta as we bring an extra special night with the legendary GREEN VELVET playing an extended 4 hour set!
It’s all going down on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 at District Atlanta, one of the city’s hottest clubs.
GREEN VELVET:
Change has been a constant theme throughout the successful career of Green Velvet, but as he has crossed genres, explored themes from the comedic to the serious and changed monikers, the common thread running through the music he has made for nearly two decades is its roots in and dedication to the Chicago House sound. The ongoing evolution in the music, career and life of the artist born Curtis Alan Jones in Chicago has been and will continue to be fascinating to watch and experience for his many followers.————————————————–

Atlanta’s dining scene, like our waistlines, is growing by leaps and bounds. In every corner, NW, SW, and all parts in between, the top new Atlanta restaurants are sprouting up and bringing the good food along with it.
Who has the good food? Where to go to get some grub? We turned to Yelp and the volunteer reviewers who spend the time documenting their meals and experiences so that we don’t have to.
Top NEW Atlanta Restaurants, according to Yelp
A number of new joints have opened up in recent months. Some have been open a matter of weeks. They all make up some of the top new Atlanta restaurants. Here’s what Yelpers are saying about them:
Rose + Rye in Midtown 87 15th St NE Atlanta, GA 30309 Phone number (404) 500-5980. A Yelper said: ““The savory pork on the bone with sweet potato cakes was probably the best take on a pork chop I’ve ever tasted.”
Sage Woodfire Tavern In Buckhead: 3379 Peachtree Rd NE Atlanta, GA 30326 Phone number (404) 869-9177. A Yelper said: “irst time here, last minute decision to come here. Glad I did! Warren, was my server, he was absolutely wonderful! I ordered the Halibut and the broiled Seafood platter.”
Mission + Market in Buckhead: 3550 Lenox Rd NE Ste 550 Atlanta, GA 30326. A Yelper said: “Fabulous. Wonderfully fabulous. Would give 6 stars if I could. My wife and I visited on 4/19-its second week being open and really enjoyed the experience. First, the food was excellent. Great menu and hard to choose, but we both enjoyed everything served. I personally had the quinoa dish and added chicken. Looking forward to exploring other items on our next visit(s).”
Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters has been serving since February 2018. The eatery is located in the Hosea + 2nd development. 2371 Hosea L Williams Dr NE Atlanta, GA 30317. A Yelper said: “The bestie and I came here to try it out after seeing the all you can eat sign (don’t judge us). Let me start by saying this place is not fancy. The decor isn’t fancy and neither is the food. However, at $13.99 the value cannot be beat! You can upgrade to sashimi as well for $19.99 but neither of us are into sashimi so we were glad to not have to pay for that. We were pleasantly greeted when we came in the place was not busy at all.”
Chido + Padre’s Restaurant In Buckhead. 128 E Andrews Dr NW Atlanta, GA 30305 Phone number (404) 848-9100. A Yelper said:“This used to be smoke belly but they’ve clearly replaced that old concept into something much more AMAZING with incredible food and drinks!”
Recess, 99-V Krog St Atlanta, GA 30307 Phone number(404) 596-8396. A Yelper said: “Serving up salads, bowls, soups, avocado toasts and sandwiches, Recess is new to the scene and one of the healthy-ish options available at Krog Street Market.” Castellucci Hospitality Group Monday Introduced The “Healthy-Ish” Concept In Inman Park.
Ms. Icey’s Kitchen, 1371 Clairmont Rd Decatur, GA 30033 Phone number (404) 963-7871. A Yelper said: “The portions were plentiful and right now it’s BYOB so that was nice. The ambiance is nice! You can be casual or dressy. The DJ was on point, Cedrick our server was great and attentive as was all of the staff. The manager and owner both came to check on us which was great. This new establishment has gotten off to a great start! I WILL BE BACK!”
CraftHall Kitchen Update: This business has closed.
Opens In Sandy Springs 1165 Perimeter Ctr W Ste 303 Atlanta, GA 30346. One Yelper said: “Crafthall kitchen is an interesting concept. It is four restaurants in one: Fried Chicken, Brunch, Salad, and Sandwich. You order your meal from an iPad. You can look back to the kitchen, but you don’t really interact with anyone. It is a little strange at first, but it probably keeps costs lower. I enjoyed the meal I received from the fried chicken restaurant. They have two different types of breadings, several different sides, and many different types of combinations.“I had Chicken with Waffles. The Chicken was great, the waffles were okay. I probably won’t get it again, but the Chicken was good enough to come back. Expect to spend about $10 a plate.”
Red Pepper Taqueria: 3135 Piedmont Rd Atlanta, GA 30305 Phone number(404) 869-2773. One Yelper said: “My friends and I had the time of our life here! It is not easy finding places that offer bottomless mimosas in Atlanta – but they do. It is only $15 and an extra $3 if you want a flavor added. I had the strawberry mimosas….they were GREAT!”
Chai Yo Modern Thai : 3050 Peachtree Rd NW Atlanta, GA 30305. A Yelper said: “The coconut ice cream, the whipped cream and the chocolate cake was divineeee.”

A former NBA wife, who once sported high heels and money as the source of her power and self-esteem, offers readers a beautiful garment of praise to God who faithfully raised her from the ashes of a failed life in center court.
Author and speaker Dr. Siohvaughn Funches’ You Gotta Let God Finish!, which originated as a life-changing message God once spoke to her despairing and confused heart, released as her second inspirational book, Oct. 2018. Funches hopes the book’s 188 pages will act as a powerful healing balm to deliver readers from the ledge of despair and brokenness—where she once lived—to renewed faith in a God who finishes what He starts.
“God came to restore my worth, removing every lie ever told me through the mouth of man and the media,” Funches says. “When it comes down to it, no one can speak on our worth, because it cannot be measured. My worth, and yours, is priceless!”
Throughout the book, Funches administers biblical comfort to the frustrated, confused and those readers who question God’s love and ability to set them free, like she once did. “My friend, the truth is that I know hardships all too well, and have become acquainted with the process and pains of letting God finish. I know well the weight of waiting on the promise of God to manifest. I have danced with despair, entertained doubt, and confessed with tear-filled eyes ‘I give up!‘” she admits.
“God used the lives of many men and women throughout the Bible to reveal His heart and His ways to me so I wouldn’t be burdened. All of these people’s lives are good examples, but the greatest is the example of the life of God Himself as He walked it out here on the earth as Jesus,” Funches says. “Then He began to minister to me about my own life, and had me look back over times when I let Him finish and the rewards I received for doing so. I know it will help transform and equip you to attain all that God has promised.”
She also discusses the healing she experienced from God after suffering from years of abuse. “I am healed! My mind, emotions, heart, and soul have been healed from years of abuse from someone I loved deeply. God gave me beauty for those ashes, healed my heart, and even blessed me to love again!” Funches concludes.
Funches briefly mentions her heated, decade-long public breakup with who used to be one of professional sport’s most celebrated athletes in You Gotta Let God Finish as a testimony of God’s faithfulness.
