Author and Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey CEO Fawn Weaver is coming to Atlanta as part of her Love & Whiskey: Unfiltered book tour.
The tour will share historical accounts from her book Love & Whiskey: The Remarkable True Story of Jack Daniel, His Master Distiller Nearest Green, and the Improbable Rise of Uncle Nearest (on sale: June 18).
The book tour is set to stop in Atlanta on Friday, June 21. Keep reading to find the time and place.
Those who attend can look forward to an extraordinary evening of whiskey exploration and open, unfiltered discussion, featuring Weaver and Victoria Eady Butler, four-time Master Blender of the Year.
As a whiskey drinker myself, I am looking forward to this event!
What’s On Tap At the Whiskey & Love Tour
Attendees will enjoy exclusive tastings of the finest Uncle Nearest single barrels and master blends, meticulously selected by Victoria for this tour. Immerse yourself in a night of authentic, unrestricted conversation with Fawn Weaver as she delves into the legacy of Nearest Green, the captivating journey of building the Uncle Nearest brand, the vision for the future of America’s first spirits empire to be built by a woman or person of color, and her personal story from homeless teen to triumph.
“This tour redefines the book event experience. I am known for my transparency; I embrace spontaneity and genuine interactions,” Fawn said in a press release. “Here, the audience leads—every question is unfiltered, straight from our guests. In between discussions, guests will have the ability to savor exquisite whiskeys under the guidance of one of the industry’s most respected Master Blenders.”
By the book:

What Is Love & Whiskey About?
Love & Whiskey chronicles Weaver’s odyssey, beginning with her discovery of Nearest Green through a piece in The New York Times. Green, a formerly enslaved Black man and skilled whiskey maker, served as the world’s first known African American master distiller and the original master distiller for Jack Daniel.
Weaver embarked on a quest, assembling a team of over 30 historians, archivists, genealogists, and researchers to unearth the true story of Nearest Green. She interviewed and spent time with over 100 of Nearest Green’s descendants, as well as numerous descendants of Jack Daniel, amassing thousands of documents from more than six states.
This monumental research effort led to the creation of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, which has grown into a billion-dollar enterprise and stands as the top-selling Black-founded and owned spirit brand of all time.
Reminiscent of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Love & Whiskey masterfully intertwines the lives of Nearest Green, Jack Daniel, and their descendants from 1849 to the present, alongside Weaver’s own trailblazing path to establish the first spirit conglomerate founded by a woman or person of color.
Record-Shattering Launch: Upon its pre-order announcement, Love & Whiskey soared to No. 17 in the Top 100 books on Amazon, America’s largest book retailer. The book impressively held the No. 1 spot in seven out of its eight categories throughout the week, including Women’s Memoirs, U.S. State and Local History, Culinary Biographies & Memoirs, and Black & African American Biographies. It was also heralded as the No. 1 “Mover & Shaker” on Amazon. Additionally, the earliest pre-orders will receive an extra special touch—a copy signed by Fawn Weaver during her record-setting Guinness World Record attempt for the Longest Marathon Book Signing, where she autographed 25,005 books in 24 hours and 35 minutes.

If you buy an older house, one of the expenses you may eventually face is a bathroom remodel. That means you’re going to have to have some money set aside.
How Much Is a Bathroom Remodel?
The cost of remodeling a bathroom can vary widely depending on several factors, including the scope of the project, the quality of materials, your location, and whether you’re doing the work yourself or hiring professionals.
On average, bathroom remodeling costs in the United States can range from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars or more. Here are some cost considerations:
A few months ago, we decided to remodel a bathroom in our Georgia home. I knew that I wanted to take an affordable option rather than go all out on the bathroom renovation.
In this article, I’m going to show you all the steps to take to remodel a bathroom for less.
How To Remodel a Bathroom
Before you get started, you need to consider some things:
Scope of the Project
The extent of your bathroom remodel will have the most significant impact on the cost. A minor cosmetic update, such as replacing fixtures and giving the bathroom a fresh coat of paint, will cost significantly less than a full-scale renovation that involves moving plumbing, replacing all fixtures, and changing the layout.
I knew that I wanted to spend around $5,000 on a bathroom remodel. That automatically meant that whoever I hired needed to be a small business owner and not a big conglomerate that hires a bunch of people.
Design and Planning
If you hire a designer or architect to help plan your bathroom remodel, their fees will be an additional cost.
If you’re married, there is a good chance that your spouse may choose to take on this part of the project. Not only will it save you money (like it did in my case) but it can make for a happy home:)
Materials and Fixtures
You also need to decide if you’re going to buy high-end fixtures from boutique vendors or if you’re going to visit your local Home Depot and Lowe’s for the run-of-the-mill products.
The quality and type of materials and fixtures you choose can greatly affect the cost. High-end materials, like natural stone or designer fixtures, will increase the budget.
Labor Costs
Finding affordable contractors has always been a sport in Atlanta, but it’s a necessary endeavor if you want to save more.
If you hire professionals, labor costs will be a substantial portion of your budget. Labor costs can vary by location and the complexity of the work.
Each of these resources has their detractors, but I found a contractor by looking at the following places:
- Angi
- Google Reviews
- Craigslist
Read our guide on hiring a reputable contractor.
Permits and Inspections
As a rule of thumb, in most municipalities, if you tear down an existing wall, you’ll need a permit to get the work done. This is not only a safety protection, but it ensures that local building codes are enforced.
Depending on your local building codes and the extent of the remodel, you may need permits and inspections, which can add to the overall cost.
Demolition and Disposal
One of the most unexpected costs associated with a remodel is demolition and disposal of the trash. Many contractors will build the expenses of trash removal into their fee, but – as I found out – not all of them.
To save money, I chose to physically remove the trash from my home myself, and it was a major headache!
Removing old fixtures, tiles, and other materials can be a labor-intensive process and may require a dumpster for disposal.
Plumbing and Electrical Work
If you need to move plumbing or electrical connections, it will add to the cost of the project as well.
When you hire a contractor for a job that includes skills of the major trades, it is their responsibility to bring tradesmen in on the job to get the work completed.
Unexpected Issues
No matter how well you plan, there is always the possibility of unexpected and unforeseen problems with a remodel.
In my case, an old corroded plumbing pipe added some significant expenses and time to the project. You’ll have to plan for this whenever doing any kind of remodeling project.
Final Word
Remodeling a bathroom or any room in your house is a major task. There are so many pieces you’re going to have to put together to avoid crazy stress or debt problems.
And you also need to hire a reliable contractor that knows how to get the job done in the timeframe you’ve established.

On October 8, an impressive gathering of Atlanta’s leading influencers converged on a multi-million-dollar estate at the The 6th Annual Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic.
This lavish event, conceived by renowned menswear designer Miguel Wilson, and generously sponsored by Bentley Atlanta and The Corbett Group, serves as a fundraiser for the Ride to the Olympics Foundation.
City’s Best Show Out At Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens attended this year’s event as a distinguished guest of honor.
“This year was the best year we’ve had by far,” Wilson said. “We put a lot of work into this event every year, so to see the turnout, and the response blows me away each and every time. One of the things that I am most proud of with the Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic is that we work hard to give one of the most unique and luxurious experiences centered around fashion and polo. We also pride ourselves in treating each ticketholder like they’re a VIP.”

The guest list featured a constellation of notable figures, including Young Jeezy (rapper), Cynthia Bailey (Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta), Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson (HGTV’s Married To Real Estate), actress Demetria McKinney (Tyler Perry’s House of Payne), actor Lamman Rucker (OWN’s Greenleaf), actress Cocoa Brown (Tyler Perry’s For Better or For Worse), and Pastor Jamal Bryant (New Birth Missionary Baptist Church).
In the past six years, the Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic grew from a one-day event to an entire weekend, which started on Friday, October 6, this year. For ticketholders, the weekend kicked off with a welcome party at the Starling Hotel. The next day, Saturday, Oct. 7, was the Polo & Pumps Day party at the Starling Hotel and the Cocktails & Cigars Under the Stars rooftop party at the Thompson Hotel. However, the big event that garnered the most attention and attendance was the signature Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic event on Sunday.
During Sunday’s Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic guests enjoyed a polo match that consisted of some of the top polo players from across the country. Wilson and his wife Chancey Wilson also participated in the match, riding for the same team.
Afterward, guests were privy to a fashion show featuring emerging and established designers with celebrity participants that included Mimi Faust (VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta), Martell Holt (OWN’s Love & Marriage Huntsville) Ralph Pittman (Real Housewives of Atlanta), actor Michael Bolwaire(BET’s All The Queen’s Men) Damian Hall (of Guy), former NFL Play JaMarcus Russell, who all walked in the event’s fashion show.
R&B singers Q Parker and Lil G (of SILK) performed during the event, while. actor Palmer Williams (Tyler Perry’s House of Payne) served as emcee of this year’s fashion show.
The most important aspect of this event is that its main reason for existence is to serve as a fundraiser for the Ride to the Olympics Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Miguel Wilson back in 2018. The organization works to provide underprivileged youth with opportunities to participate in equestrian sports.
Since its creation, the organization’s biggest accomplishment was helping to create the Morehouse Polo Club, the first-ever polo team at a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Wilson served as a co-founder of the Morehouse Polo Club and was honored for his efforts by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and the State of Georgia.
Ride to the Olympics Foundation is now focusing on creating multiple youth polo teams.
“I’d like to thank Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens for participating in this year’s Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic. His support means a lot to me, in addition to the support that we received this year from Fulton County Arts & Culture (FACE). I’d also like to thank our longtime sponsors Bentley Atlanta and The Corbett Group; as well as all of our vendors who help make this event possible,” Wilson said.
