Kendall Rae Johnson has had a green thumb for as long as she can remember. It wasn’t that long ago. She’s 7 years old.
The South Fulton girl recently received a proclamation as Georgia’s Youngest Certified Farmer, courtesy of the City of South Fulton.
The proclamation was issued on September 28, 2021 with city officials in tow.
Kendall Rae Johnson Is Georgia’s Youngest Farmer
“Agriculture, by far, remains the state’s largest industry,” Mayor William Edwards said at the event, according to 11Alive. “Still, it remains an industry with few women. With her enthusiasm, determination and love for gardening, Kendall is about to change that. We are proud of such an accomplished young lady at such a young age.”
Kendall is quite literally the future of Georgia farming. The Atlanta girl is serious about growing fruits and vegetables and even has her own website, agrowkulture.com.
With food insecurity becoming a burgeoning problem not only in faraway places, but right here in Atlanta, Kendall’s endeavors are gaining a lot of attention — and support.
She is currently lining up partnerships to raise awareness about the need to cultivate farmland in metro Atlanta.
Kendall’s love for gardening stems from her fascination with watching things grow. “Kendall got a chance to see a collard green stem placed in the dirt. A couple weeks later, we see foliage! Wow! We can do that,” Ursula Johnson, Kendall’s mother told WSBTV.
But it also originated with her grandmother. “Although Kendall Rae doesn’t quite remember her great-grand, she remembers hearing her saying, “Don’t throw my collard green stems away, put them back in the dirt.” That’s when it all started,” it says on Kendall’s website.
Kendall is not the only African-American dedicated to growing crops from God’s green Earth. Metro Atlanta has some deliberate farmers who are doing what they can to keep the discipline alive. Here are some black farmers in Atlanta you may not know about.

Days after treating Atlanta residents to a listening party, Kanye West is still inside Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium working on his album.
It is unknown if he plans to finish the album in Atlanta, but the release date of DONDA has been announced as August 6.

West’s new album, DONDA, is named after his late mother. And by choosing Mercedes-Benz Stadium, West is making it very clear that he believes his new songs are what he’s called stadium music.“I wanted my drums to bang harder in stadiums,” he told Concrete Loop. “Bono [of rock group U2] told me that ‘No one from your community has ever figured this out.’ And if you think about it, nobody of the black community can really sell out stadiums, like 30,000 seaters, there’s not one artist you can think of. I can think of four, you know, white artists.”He once said in a November 2007 Rolling Stone interview, “All those people that bootlegged the album, there’s a chance they’ll come to the concert, or play the music for their kids, that these songs will connect in different ways. Thai’s more important than sales. My goal is playing stadiums, and I don’t think having millions of illegal downloads hurts that.”West continues to tweak the DOND album after getting feedback from fellow artists and fans alike. He recently shared his living situation inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium on IG:From a close look at the photo, you can make out what appears to be some Bowflex weights, push up bars, shoes, clothes and unidentifiable box and a simple bed. What Is DONDA’s Track List?
The DONDA tracklist leaked online hours after West’s Atlanta listening party. Fans are refreshing their Apple Music accounts to see if the album is posted yet. Here is the DONDA tracklisting according to multiple sources on social media:- 24/ Y’all Gonna Be Okay

West has taken the city by storm since his arrival in Atlanta. July 22 was officially declared “Kanye West Day” by city officials.Got an event or know of something opening in and around Atlanta? Do you ever wonder where your money is going? It seems like every month, expenses eat away at our budget. But the truth is that Americans today are paying for things that simply didn’t exist a short time ago.
Of course, we need the lights on and utilities to work, and even the car note. But it’s those “other” bills that seem to be sapping our paychecks. Where did they come from?
These Expenses Didn’t Exist 20 Years Ago
Let’s look at some of the bills that have popped up out of thin air in the last 20 years.
1. Baggage Fees
In 2008, American Airlines introduced a $30 fee for your first checked bag. That set off a chain reaction among the airline industry and baggage fees that has been with us ever since. Not only that, but snacks, pillows and the like were free years ago — but not anymore.
2. Your Streaming Bill
Related to your data plan is your streaming bill. Back in the day, Netflix used to mail you DVDs. Now, the streaming service — and a host of others — are selling subscriptions for anywhere from $5.99 to $50 a month.
For context, you may be trading your cable or satellite bill for two or three streaming services, but as we’re about to see, those subscriptions extend far beyond TV…
3. Music Subscriptions
Sad to say, it costs money to listen to good music now. Of course, you could tune in to the radio all day, but to get the highly curated audio experience we’ve all come to know and love comes with a price tag. Your monthly Spotify or Apple Music account costs you anywhere from $4.99 to $9.99.
4. Coffee
Yes, having a morning coffee has been a ritual for years and years, but with the rise of Starbucks and other artisan coffee establishments, a freshly brewed cup has become a recurring bill for many of us.
According to an Acorn Money Matters report, the average American spends approximately $1,100 annually ($3 each day) on coffee. No wonder Starbucks is reported to make $61 million a day.
5. Ridesharing
Ridesharing has become a common expense for people in big cities, especially millennials who want to bar hop or avoid parking fees downtown. But Americans who use Uber and Lyft spend $22 on an average trip, according to one report. If you rideshare twice times a week, we’re talking more than $240 a month.
of course, that money could be offset by the amount you save on a new car note or taxicab, but the fact remains, ridesharing is an expense we didn’t have years ago.
6. Bottled Water
It’s true people have been drinking bottled water for a long time, but its status at the top of the food chain has only taken hold in recent years.
In 2017, the Beverage Marketing Corp., an industry consulting firm, announced that bottled water had overtaken milk and beer to become America’s favorite beverage. And as more people swear off tap water, many opt to exclusively drink bottled water. That means that each year, U.S. consumers spend an average of $100 per person on bottled water. Add other members of the household and this figure goes way up.
Takeaway
So what’s the point in listing these recurring expenses? It’s so you can see that you may be able to save some of your hard-earned money if you took steps now to invest what you spend on some of these items. Need help? The first thing you need to do is create a budget.

Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane and wife Keyshia Ka’oir welcomed a baby boy on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. The baby’s name is Ice.
Gucci Mane tweeted the good news shortly after the birth. “My wife just gave me a 7lb 1oz baby boy named ICE DAVIS thank u.”
What Is Gucci Mane’s New Baby Named?
You may be wondering what type of name is Ice Davis? But it has a “ring” to it. It’s actually pretty cold!
If you’ve been following Gucci Mane, aka Radric Davis, you know that the “East Atlanta Santa” has been married for a few years now and it has transformed his life.
The celebrity couple wed on Tuesday Oct. 17, 2017 in a televised affair at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami, Florida. Now baby makes three.
Ka’oir’s business saavy has helped to keep Gucci Mane out of the streets and between the sheets. She’s also a formidable businesswoman. And her clean-living has allowed Gucci Mane to stay svelte after losing 50 pounds in prison.
Jailed on a parole violation, Gucci Mane was supposed to serve 39 months, with a release date of March 2017. But he shocked fans last year when the much-thinner rapper debuted in Snapchat videos at his mansion he shares with Ka’oir.
Speaking to The Fader magazine, Ka’oir said that his social media debut was strategic, and everything happened the way she planned.
“When we got to Atlanta, we got off the plane on the runway and we had a private service that took us to our home. Then when we got home, that’s when I started posting on Snapchat. That was all my plan,” she was quoted as saying.
The couple can be seen at various Atlanta events, from Atlanta Hawks basketball games to private parties. Are they Atlanta’s first couple? What swag do you think Ice Davis will wear in his first photos?
Tune in to AtlantaFi.com to find out. In the meantime, here are adorable pictures of little Ice Davis.
