Life comes at you quick if you’re Michael Vick. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback is coming back to the city to be involved in the game he loves.

Vick will be offensive coordinator in a new professional football team starting up in Atlanta, according to news reports. Vick, one of the most explosive and exciting players to ever play in the NFL, will join the staff of former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress, according to a league press release.

The team will be in the new Alliance of American Football league and play at Georgia State Stadium, the old Turner Field, near downtown Atlanta. The city is the second one to have a head coach named. Former SEC coach Steve Spurrier has signed on to coach a team in Orlando, Florida.

Michael Vick will be the offensive coordinator for the new team in Atlanta, which will begin play next February. Former head coach Brad Childress will be the head coach.

  • Meehan’s Public House Buckhead Closes Its Doors

    2 Min Read

Meehan’s Public House Buckhead, which has several bars around metro Atlanta, recently announced that it was closing its Buckhead location. Friday, April 20 was its last day in operation.

The tavern opened four years ago at 322 E Paces Ferry Road NE and fought to stay in the black in a competitive restaurant and bar scene that was tailored for the affluent.

On its Facebook page last week, the restaurant told patrons that it was abruptly shutting down:

“Regretfully, after some great years in the Buckhead community, Meehan’s Buckhead has decided to close its doors. We are grateful to all of those in the neighborhood that supported our pub. We thoroughly enjoyed each and every day with you guys, from our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and fall Oysterfest events to Thursday night trivia and live music on the weekends. We’ll miss serving each and every one of you!

The Irish eatery will still operate its Sandy Springs, Atlantic Station and downtown locations.

The vacancy won’t last long. Sports bar Irby’s Tavern will open in place of  Meehan’s, What Now Atlanta reports.

The album’s first two singles, “Django Jane” and “Make Me Feel,” have fans in a frenzy for the full project, which is set to be released on April 27, 2018. For those of us who’ve been checking for Monae for minute, her first EP, “Metropolis: A Suite (The Chase),” showed that she has long been married to afrofuturism.

Read more: Janelle Monae’s afrofuturistic dark fantasyAs for the music, Monae is now more confident in her sonic space than ever before, in large part to her fallen mentor, Prince.

“It’s difficult for me to even speak about this because Prince was helping me with the album, before he passed on to another frequency,” she told The Guardian in February.

She said that the Purple One helped her to shed any inhibitions that crimped her creativity — and for that, she is forever grateful. “I wouldn’t be as comfortable with who I am if it had not been for Prince. I mean, my label Wondaland would not exist without Paisley Park coming before us.”

  • STATS Sports Bar Adding On-Site Brewery

    1 Min Read

Upscale ports bar STATS in downtown Atlanta will be done remodeling its space in July, the eatery recently said. The sports bar is retrofitting part of the building to add an on-site brewery and is also rebranding itself as STATS BrewPub.

The popular bar located at 300 Marietta St. NW, is also adding to its beer list in a big way.

“The brewery is something we’ve been thinking about, and with the ever growing popularity in the craft beer scene, especially in Atlanta, it seems like a great opportunity and addition to our restaurant,” said Legacy Ventures Chief Operating Officer for Restaurants Brian Bullock. “Our beer program will remain very strong, offering a little something for everyone, and now adding our own brews will make STATS even more of a dining destination.”

STATS is the defacto sports bar for tourists and business visitors in downtown Atlanta. The rebranding figures to have nary an effect to the site’s choice as a place to watch the Hawks, Falcons and other games.

Report: Atlanta Super Bowl Needs 10,000 Volunteers

    1 Min Read

Don’t necessarily think  you’ll get inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but if you want to give of yourself and time by volunteering for the city’s Super Bowl in January, they need you.

Atlanta will need at least 10,000 volunteers during Super Bowl LIII for weeklong activities, according to 11Alive. To save time, organizers are keen to start the interviewing process and bring people on board.

Here’s how to volunteer for Super Bowl LIII

Helpers will be needed to shepherd people around the game festivities, including staffing along downtown streets and venues, the airport and other places. City officials are expecting more than  250,000 visitors to flock to to the city, including those with no intentions of attending the game.

Volunteer coordinator Cordell Smith told 11Alive that people will want to volunteer just to be around the Super Bowl.

“I think the biggest incentive is just being a part of the Super Bowl. For cities that usually get Super Bowls, people are used to that. Up here, we don’t always get that opportunity. We may never get that opportunity again,” he was quoted as saying.
