Don’t necessarily think you’ll get inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but if you want to give of yourself and time by volunteering for the city’s Super Bowl in January, they need you.
Atlanta will need at least 10,000 volunteers during Super Bowl LIII for weeklong activities, according to 11Alive. To save time, organizers are keen to start the interviewing process and bring people on board.
Here’s how to volunteer for Super Bowl LIII
Helpers will be needed to shepherd people around the game festivities, including staffing along downtown streets and venues, the airport and other places. City officials are expecting more than 250,000 visitors to flock to to the city, including those with no intentions of attending the game.
Volunteer coordinator Cordell Smith told 11Alive that people will want to volunteer just to be around the Super Bowl.
“I think the biggest incentive is just being a part of the Super Bowl. For cities that usually get Super Bowls, people are used to that. Up here, we don’t always get that opportunity. We may never get that opportunity again,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier this year, Atlanta chef Robert Phalen of the One Eared Stag opened a restaurant in East Lake that is especially close to our Southern hearts.
Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters has been serving since February 2018. The eatery is located in the Hosea + 2nd development.

As for the restaurant’s name, it comes from the caretaker of Phalen’s mother-in-law, Mary Hoopa. She was known for fresh food straight from the garden to the table.

If you’ve seen a “For Sale” sign outside a home these days, there’s a good chance it won’t last long. That’s because homes are selling faster than ever in Atlanta and across the nation.
A new report from Zillow says that homes sold at the fastest pace on record in 2017. It took 81 days to sell the average home in the United States last year. That’s nine days faster than the previous year. Quick home sales in Atlanta were among the top in the nation, according to Zillow.
Quick-Selling Home Market Heating Up In Atlanta: Zillow
The quickest-selling month was June 2017, according to Zillow, when homes sold and closed all in the span of 73 days. In Atlanta that month, the average home sold in just 71 days.
“As demand has outpaced supply in the housing market over the past three years, buying a home has become an exercise in speed and agility,” said Zillow® Senior Economist Aaron Terrazas. “This is shaping up to be another competitive home shopping season for buyers, who may have to linger on the market until they find the right home but then sprint across the finish line once they do. Being prepared – working with a great agent, getting financing preapproved – can help a buyer make a stand-out offer.”
It remains a sellers market for 2018 as inventory has fallen for 37 straight months, Zillow said.
The fastest-selling market in 2017 was San Jose, Calif., where the typical home sold in 41 days. San Jose also experienced the biggest drop in inventory over the past year, with 26.8 percent fewer homes to choose from than a year earlier. Homes in San Jose sold fastest last year in October, with a span of just 39 days from listing to closing.

“Instant Family,” the Atlanta-filmed movie starring Mark Wahlberg, is looking to cast extras for a courtroom scene. Filming is slated for Friday, April 20.
The movie centers around a CIA field officer and an Indonesian police officer who is forced to work together as they confront violent and extreme political corruption. The movie will be directed by Peter Berg and stars Wahlberg.

Shaping up as one of the most ambitious civic development projects in the quarter century, the Atlanta Beltline has so many firsts and accomplishments that it has discovered the need to record them and house them under one roof.
To that end (or beginning), the Atlanta BeltLine Center will be christened on April 28, the group said in a press release. Inside the historical hub will be exhibits, interactive presentations and literature marking the long journey that has become the Beltline.
“There will be maps and other visuals, but much, much more,” ABP spokesman John Becker told Curbed Atlanta. “The Center will be a place where people can learn about all aspects of the Atlanta Beltline project—as well as the Atlanta Beltline Partnership’s mission—through exhibits, interactive displays, and programming that highlight the project’s history, scope, and impact.”
“The Atlanta BeltLine Center will allow people to learn how infrastructure can be a catalyst for economic growth and revitalization,” Brian P. McGowan, president and CEO of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc, said in the release. “As we build a BeltLine for all, this center will celebrate the experiences we’ve come to love about the BeltLine.”
Since even before its inception, the Beltline has been likened to a greatest municipal project in the nation and a shining example of community partnership and collaboration. Several areas of metro Atlanta are actively looking to imitate the pathway system, which aims to give people a safe space to jog, walk or enjoy their neighborhoods.
