If you want to escape the big city of Atlanta, there are some mountains close enough that it will give you that faraway feel. The views are spectacular and the natural beauty all around will be just what you need.
This article is going to tell you about the mountains that are all less than an hour from downtown Atlanta.
Did you know that Atlanta is actually situated along the foothills to the Smokey Mountains.
So it stands to reason that there would be elevated areas — mountains — in close proximity to Atlanta. If you want to walk them for exercise or climb them to test your endurance, all you have to do is take a short ride via I-285 and you’re there!
Here Are The Mountains Closest To Atlanta
To give our list the perspective and context that it needs, we included reviews so that you can see how people feel — and what they see — about the landmarks we’ll mention.
Here are the closest mountains near Atlanta:
Stone Mountain
Here’s what one reviewer says about Stone Mountain Park: “Had an awesome time. Was there for close to a week staying at the Stone Mountain Campground. If staying with kids, I recommend staying in the purple loop as it is close to the pool and playground with full hookups.”
More: “Plenty to do at the park with historical education, sky ride up the mountain, walking path up the mountain for those wanting a little physical challenge, train ride around the to recuperate from walking up or down the mountain, wildlife throughout the park, stage shows in the main attraction area, putt putt golf, etc.”
Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park
Here’s what one Google reviewer says: “Phenomenal place! Definitely my new favorite place to jog around Marietta.
Gorgeous scenery… the running trails are immaculate, well maintained, undulating (rolling hills) and well marked on Google maps… fortunate for me b/c I got to playing and didn’t realize I turned off and went down the trail taking me down wrong way and added an extra 4+miles!”Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area
Here’s what one Google reviewer says: “This is my most favorite excursion in Greater Atlanta ! A great way to spend time away from all the hoopla of the city. A great way to appreciate this world and all in it! Beautiful natural beauty flowers, berries, and groves of tree’s. Let’s not forget the fauna around the area. The lakes are gorgeous when it rains, and majestic as dry bases when empty. Please visit this park and keep it clean!”
Final Word
The Atlanta area is a big city, but it’s also close enough to the countryside that you can enjoy the mountains by driving for less than an hour.
But that’s not all: Georgia has some beautiful state parks you can check out along the way. Here’s a guide.

This used to be one of my favorite places to come- don’t get me wrong- still is an amazing park. Just wished it was a bit cleaner and up kept.”
South Bend Park
South Bend Park, one of the south side’s signature parks, is located at 1955 Compton Dr SE Atlanta.
Here’s what one Google reviewer said: “The trail is very nice but the park itself is a bit sketchy. A lot of homeless make the covered areas their residence. The playground, and all play areas for that matter, could use a good pressure washing. The baseball field looks nice but no rec sports are offered by this park. There’s no public engagement from the city at this park. Which is unfortunate because our community needs it! Maybe a burger/hot dog day in exchange for the community to come out and clean up the park while meeting the neighbors. Just a thought.”
Centennial Olympic

One Google reviewer said: “Much nicer than it was in the 90s. Yes, it has been that long since I have been there. The Farmer’s Market that runs 9 to 1 most Sundays is great. Less produce and more local artisans with cheese, meats, soaps, bread and on like that. We were there to walk our dogs, but the market was nice. We had wood fired pizza, scones, donuts, coffee, and iced tea. There is produce, but not many. Maybe in warmer months there is more.”

If you use Haygood address you will end up on a dead end on a tight Street you don’t want to be on! Didn’t give it 5 stars because there is limited shaded area that is subject to being taken over for a birthday party and no off-street parking.”

Our ministerial group passed out Pre-Thanksgiving dishes to the homeless.”
Boulevard Crossing
Park Boulevard Crossing Park is located at 500 Englewood Ave SE and is a main soccer training field for youths. With two multi-use fields and immaculate landscaping, Boulevard Crossing Park is primed for recreational sports play. Here’s what one reviewer said: “I liked that they had trash cans and picnic tables. The field isn’t completely flat but definitely good enough for most ground sports. They should get recycle bins.”Atlanta Memorial Park
Atlanta Memorial Park is a great place to run, jog or walk. With multiple tennis courts, the park is well-designed for athletic play. It also has a golf course, playgrounds and trails.
Here’s how a Google reviewer described it: “Great park for trail walking. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on leash. Beautiful wooded trails with multiple loops/ routes for different distances. A lot of different wildlife can be seen, from deer to owls. Very popular for runners and walkers. Has a pond and streams. The pond can be fished. Great family spot.”

Maddox Park
Situated on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Maddox Park is a hot location due to its inclusion in the Beltline designs. Want easy access? Maddox Park is conveniently located across from the Bankhead MARTA Station.
Here’s what one reviewer said: “With the train station being literally at the park, the industrial ambiance is quite relaxing, if you ask me. The Marta train station is located across the street. Thankfully, a pavilion is close in distance to cool off at & is perfect for hosting parties. The basketball court is gated and filled with great street players. There is also a gated pool with a kiddie umbrella water area. The only thing I dislike is the lack of parking spaces in front of the parks community building.”

Rent prices continue to increase around Atlanta, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find an affordable apartment.
In this article, we’re going to show you how to get an apartment you can afford.
Finding an affordable apartment in your budget is possible. You just have to do your homework like learning about the location and how much place you can afford.
The coronavirus pandemic caused the apartment industry to adjust the way it does business. Although many things are back to normal, contactless procedures are still in place at some apartment complexes.
The good thing is that searching online for an apartment is as popular as ever.
How To Find An Apartment
The best advice for finding an apartment is to know what you like and to stay within your budget. This article is going to show you some things to consider during your search.
What We’ll Consider:
How Much Should You Have Saved For An Apartment?
Of course, the type of area you choose to live on will vary based on many financial factors, including local cost of living, property values and more.
When it comes to how much you should have stashed away for an apartment, a good rule of thumb is your rent should be one-third of your income.
For example, if your monthly income is $3,000, your monthly rent should be around $1,000.
Typically, you will also need to have the first and last month’s rent. So if you’re renting a $1,000-a-month apartment, you will need to set aside an entire month of income to get the key.
Aside from money, you’ll need to make sure your credit is OK. Here are three ways to improve your credit score quickly.
Once you’ve done your homework, you need to time your apartment hunt with a favorable time of the year.
What Is The Best Time To Find An Apartment?
Because people are less likely to relocate in the winter, you’ll find that rents are usually higher in the warmer months. That means from May through September, you will see rental rates spike.
Conversely, you should be able to find lower rents when the weather is cooler. So that means from October through April is when you may be able to get a deal on your rent.
Now that you know what time to rent an apartment, here’s the main thing you need to know.
How Do I Find An Apartment Remotely?
You may be wondering how you can find an apartment without seeing its square footage and physically feeling how big or small the rooms are. Here are two tips to find one.
- Research the surrounding area: Make sure you take your time to read up on the area, including nearby schools, amenities, restaurants and stores. All of those things give you a sense of what kind of area it is and what you’ll likely spend on rent.
- Do a virtual tour: Most apartment websites have 360 degree cameras that allow you to virtually tour the complex, including the rooms you are interested in.
Once you find your apartment, you’ll need to set up an appointment to talk business with the property manager or leasing agent.
Consider The Size Of Your Apartment
To really get an affordable apartment in a good part of the town, you may have to consider the size of your dwelling.
I know you may want to splurge on a two-bedroom apartment, but you may need to look at a one bedroom. To save even more, see if you can make due with a studio apartment.
As an example, a studio apartment in Midtown Atlanta costs about $1,200. That same studio in other parts of the city could cost as low as $700.
Get A Roommate
Another way to save money on an apartment is to get a roommate. Not only will a roommate cut your costs automatically by 50%, but having another person living with you also adds an element of safety.
Some great places to find a roommate include:
Always put safety first when meeting a prospective roommate for the first time. Make sure the person has their identification and any other documents you may need.
Final Words
Remember that you may not want to live in the most populous or trendy places, because of noise, traffic and pollution. You also may not want to live too far away, which would stretch your commute.
Now that you are equipped to find an apartment, it’s time to see how you can get cheaper rent. Here’s how to negotiate.Atlanta has one of the best real estate markets in the country, with affordable housing in every quadrant of the city. Large backyards, manicured parcels and strong neighborhoods with ample dining amenities make it one of the top places for transplants.
