Tropical Storm Ian Watch: How To Prepare For A Big Storm In Georgia

    4 Min Read

Ian has been downgraded to a tropical storm but is still capable of producing deadly winds and storm surge, weather experts said early Thursday.  Along with battering Florida, the storm is still expected to impact parts of Georgia and South Carolina with strong winds and heavy rains over the next few days.

This article will tell you how Tropical Storm Ian is expected to impact Georgia as well as what steps you should take to stay safe in a major storm.

When Will Hurricane Ian Hit Georgia?

Weather experts predict that Tropical Storm Ian will move into Georgia on Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

Coastal Georgia will bear the brunt of Hurricane Ian, including cities Brunswick and Savannah, which are likely to see waves of torrential rain and storm surge. While it will still be a major storm, Ian should shrink in size in strength by the time it hits the Peach State. This is mainly due to its weakening over land for a significant period of time. That doesn’t mean that Georgia is out of the woods though. Some areas will see flooding while others will only get wind sheer, including parts of North Georgia. The storm is expected to lap metro Atlanta, affecting some of its outer counties with wind and rain.

What Will Be Tropical Storm Ian’s Impact On Georgia?

While the ranges vary, weather forecasters say coastal Georgia could see anywhere from four to six inches of rain along with tropical-storm-like winds.

Here is Ian’s projected path according to National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration early Thursday.

Take These Safety Steps To Stay Safe In A Major Storm

In the event that a major storm hits Georgia, including metro Atlanta, there are some things you can do to prevent the worst of conditions from occurring.

    Buy A Generator

Most appliance stores sell either whole-house or portable generators, which are sufficient for major storms and hurricanes.

Remember to never run a generator in an enclosed space. They generate deadly fumes that can kill you. Here are some top portable generators you can purchase.

Champion Power Equipment 100519 6250-Watt Open Frame Inverter

    Stock Up On Canned Goods

You’d be surprised how good some food in a can tastes when you’re starving. Hopefully, you never have to find out, but to be safe, it’s a good idea to have some canned goods stored for a rainy day.

Here are some food stuffs you should invest in:

Swanson Chicken & Dumplings W/ White & Dark Chicken Meat

    Have A Go-Bag Ready

When it’s time for you to flee your home, it can be very hectic trying to find the items you will think you need to take with you. That’s why it’s always a good idea to prepare a go-bag — a book sack or bag filled with your necessities — so that you can be on the move in a hurry.

What are some things to put in a go-bag?

    Final Word

Although your emotions may run high during a storm, it’s very important that you stay level-headed and make safety of you and yours a priority.

Georgia doesn’t often get hurricanes, but they do happen from time to time.

Another key thing you can do is tell someone where you are. Don’t go in alone in a big storm. If you can communicate to someone ahead of time, before the storm, tell them where you’ll likely be; it will be a big help. The good thing that you should always remember is that storms pass!

Report: Atlanta Leads U.S. In Apartment Construction

    3 Min Read

Atlanta’s downtown district is once again attracting residents, reversing decades of sprawl that saw families flock to the suburbs. Georgia’s largest city leads the nation in downtown apartment construction, according to a new report.

StorageCafe.com’s report shows that  downtowns are back in vogue again, with Atlanta leading the way. The site looked at the downtown areas of the country’s 100 largest cities and ranked them based on the number of multifamily units built over the past decade.

What City Is #1 In America For Downtown Apartment Construction?

The nation is in the middle of a housing crisis, with not enough dwellings being built for American families, but Atlanta is doing its part.

    • The city has built more than 21,000 units from 2013 to 2022, according to StorageCafe.
    • The next-closest city with that kind of downtown construction is Los Angeles, with $19,342 units built over that period.
    • The 21,500 apartments built in Atlanta over the past 10 years represents more than half or its inventory. Downtown Atlanta has another 7,000 new apartments currently being built, according to the site.

Let’s look at how the cities rank in terms of apartment unit construction.

Cities With The Most Apartment Units Being Built

    • Atlanta — 21,508

How To Afford An Apartment In Atlanta

You already know that Atlanta apartment market is one of the most expensive in the country. The average rent in Atlanta is more than $1,800 a month. How can you afford rent?

    Get A High-Paying Job

You need to have a salary that meets the median income across the Atlanta metro area. If you can switch to a higher-paying job, now is the time to do that.

Work flexibility is at an all-time high as many employers are hiring remote workers right now. Here are some insightful steps on how to find a job in Atlanta.

    Get A Roommate

Having a roommate will not only allow you to save more of your money, but it also automatically gives you some company for lonely nights. As long as you get along, it could be great.

The key to finding a good roommate is to screen properly.

Some great places to find a roommate include:

    Ask For A Cheaper Unit

Many apartments will only show you their more expensive one-, or two-, or three-bedroom apartments, but if you want to stay there and save money at the same time, you need to ask the leasing agent for their least expensive options.

See if you can haggle them on the price by promising to pay the first six months of the rent or another concession.

Apartments will typically have apartments that need a paint job or other cosmetic fix that they may rent you if they’re in a hurry. It won’t hate to ask.

    Final Word

The Atlanta construction boom hasn’t just been relegated to downtown. Places like Smyrna, Doraville and high-priced Buckhead have cranes in the sky. In fact, many of the suburban and exurban areas are seeing structures being built on what seems like a monthly basis.

Review: We Tried DJ Khaled’s Another Wing. Here’s What To Know

    3 Min Read

When we told you that a new food concept from DJ Khaled would be coming to Atlanta, we knew it would shake up the wing business here. After all, Mr. “Another One” knows how to make a hit.

Now that Another Wing, Khaled’s chicken wing delivery service, is available on GrubHub and UberEats, I’ve had the pleasure of trying it a couple times now.

    Is Another Wing Any Good?

Another Wing is a delivery-only food concept from DJ Khaled and Reef Technologies. The endeaver serves food by way of the “ghost kitchen” model. That means you have to order via app and get your food delivered; there is no physical place to dine in.

I used the UberEats app and got the Classic Bone-In 10-piece wings along with some Truffle Parm Fries.

How was it? It was good! The wings were pretty sizeable and juicy, which stood out compared to some of the area chicken wing places.

I also ordered some ranch dressing to dip the wings in. With the fries was a parmesan-based yellow sauce that was both tangy and offered a different flavor than the wings.

What’s On The Menu At Another Wing?

According to Reef Technologies, Another Wing will feature several American favorites that you can enjoy. Here are some of the signature flavors you can order:

    • Un Un Un Believable Buffalo
    • Don’t Quit Nashville Hot
    • You Loyal! Lemon Pepper
    • Honey! Honey!
    • Hot Honey Siracha
    • They Don’t Want You To Win TRUFFALO.
    • All I Do Is Wing: 10 Wing Combo
    • Major Hungry Pack: 15 Piece
    • 10 Wings

    Chicken Tenders

    • 4-Piece Crispy Tender Combo
    • 8-Piece Crispy Tender Combo
    • 6-Piece Crispy Tend4r Combo

    Sides

    • Winning Waffle Fries
    • Jalapeno Cheese Fries
    • Truffle Parm Fries
    • I’m On One Onion Rings
    • Extra Celery
    • We the Best Cookies
    • I Ain’t Regular Ranch
    • Holla At Me Honey Dijon

How Are The Prices At Another Wing?

I must say that the prices for Another Wing were not cheap. For two 10-pieces with two sides, my bill came to $35+. If you add in a tip for the delivery driver and you could easily approach $50 for some wings.

Because of the high prices (is there still a chicken wing shortage) prices may be on the high end for some time. You’ve been warned.

How To Order From Another Wing

To order from Another Wing, you have to go to the UberEats app or the DoorDash app and search for “Another Wing.”

You can order an assortment of wings, chicken tenders and some sides along with a few desserts. Here’s a screenshot of some of the offerings:

    Another Wing DJ Khaled menu

Once you choose your order, it’ll be on its way.

    Conclusion

Another Wing is a very tasty addition to the chicken wing landscape in Atlanta. I gave the eatery the delivery driver the highest rating on my food app, but I was also pretty hungry.

As for the prices, these wings won’t come cheap. You can find more competitively priced wings elsewhere, but they won’t be from Another Wing.

Bottom line: DJ Khaled hits it out of the park with Another Wing. They are a bit pricey, but you can’t expect anything less from a premium wing spot, delivery-only or not.

Metro Atlanta’s food and drink scene continues to grow with no signs of slowing down. Ready to try something new?
