We all need that faithful winter coat to help us keep warm when the temperatures drop — and that’s exactly what’s happening in metro Atlanta as winter kicks in.
Top quality winter coats can be difficult to locate. The department stores never have your size and when they do, the color is always off.
Best Winter Coats
With cold weather upon us, now’s the time to check out some wool peacoats, or warm and comfortable winter coats. Here are some of the best ones:
Orolay Women’s Thickened Down Jacket

Here’s what one reviewer says about this Orolay coat: “SO WARM. So stylish! I am so in love with this coat. It seems very well put together and heavy and sturdy. I am usually a size L/XL in everything and the large fits perfectly with the zippers up on the sides. It gets a bit narrow around the hips but it’s adjustable so it’s fine! Absolutely love this coat.”
Women’s Notched Lapel Double Breasted Raglan Winter Coats

Here’s what one reviewer says about the Allegra winter coat: “So I’m 5’1, 135lbs, and 36C. I bought the medium and it fits well. A small MIGHT’VE fit, but I didn’t risk ordering it. As far as length it hit right above my knee. It’s roomy around the waste so it’s not a form-fitting coat–still looks cute though. I’m also still able to wear layers under the coat–which is good because it’s not the warm kind (especially in Chicago winters). Overall, a good purchase.”
MOERDENG Women’s Waterproof Ski Jacket Warm Winter Snow Coat

Here’s what one reviewer says about the Moerdeng women’s waterproof ski jacket: “This is a very nice, warm & comfortable ski jacket. I’m in love with the fur lining – it feels amazing. The water repellent material will be great in rain and snow. My only reason for giving it 4 stars is I read and expected it to fit true to size and I’d say the fit is a little big. I think it will be ok with layers underneath but if you are between sizes, I’d recommend to size down.”
Wantdo Women’s Mountain Waterproof Ski Jacket Windproof Rain Jacket

Here’s what one of the reviewers says about this coat: “This coat is a very nice coat so far. I got a large (I wear medium usually) and it fits over a suit jacket perfectly (I wear a 38R jacket). I had hoped the ‘long’ jacket came to mid calf on me, and this comes to just below my knees. I’m 5’9” with a long trunk and short legs.”
Allegra K Women’s Double Breasted Notched Lapel Long Winter Coat

Here’s what one reviewer says about this Allegra winter coat: “Really beautiful! The jacket fits perfectly, check the description for a good fit! I’m 5’1″, 150 pounds, size 12. I got the medium and it has the fitted size I wanted. Hits just above my knees. I love the soft feel of the material and it has exceeded my expectations.”
That’s all for the women’s winter coats. Now let’s look at some of the best men’s winter coats:
Caterpillar Men’s Heavy Insulated Parka (Regular and Big & Tall Sizes)

APTRO Men’s Winter Single Breased Slim Fit Wool Top Coat Long Trench Coat

Here’s what one reviewer says about this top coat: “It is a nice, quality dress coat. I ordered the ‘fleece’ style, which has the heavier liner. It’s warm, but still not meant for deep winter cold.”
Men’s Winter Jacket Thick Thermal Cotton Warm Fleece Lined Coat

Here’s what one reviewer says about this coat: “This coat is beautiful, smooth and Groovy I was sceptacle at first because of the price thinking to myself that dope coat for that fair price. It’s tailored and fits very well I’m 5”11 slim build. You don’t need to go up a size unless you’re a muscle head.”
How To Shop for a Winter Coat
When shopping for a quality winter coat, it’s important to consider factors like warmth, durability, style, and functionality. Here’s a breakdown of key features to look for in a winter coat that will keep you both warm and comfortable throughout the season:
1. Insulation and Warmth
- Down Insulation: Look for a coat with high-quality down insulation (feathers from ducks or geese). Down is lightweight, compressible, and extremely warm. The fill power rating (e.g., 600-fill, 800-fill) indicates the warmth-to-weight ratio—the higher the fill power, the warmer and lighter the coat.
- Synthetic Insulation: If you prefer a coat that is more moisture-resistant, synthetic insulation (such as Thinsulate or PrimaLoft) is a good alternative. Synthetic insulates even when wet and tends to be more affordable, though it may not be as warm as down.
- Wool Coats: Wool offers natural warmth and is great for moderate winter conditions. A wool-blend coat is typically more stylish but may not be sufficient for extremely cold temperatures.
2. Windproof and Waterproof Materials
- Waterproof Fabrics: Look for coats made from materials such as Gore-Tex, HyVent, or other waterproof membranes. These materials prevent snow and rain from penetrating the coat, keeping you dry in wet winter weather.
- Windproof Coating: A good winter coat should also have a windproof outer layer or shell to block cold winds and keep you insulated.
- Taped Seams: For extra protection from moisture, ensure the coat has taped or sealed seams to prevent water from seeping in.
3. Durable and High-Quality Outer Material
- Nylon, Polyester, or Wool Blends: The outer shell of your coat should be durable and able to withstand wear and tear from everyday use. Nylon and polyester are common choices for winter coats because they resist abrasions, while wool blends offer a polished, stylish look for formal settings.
- Ripstop Fabric: If you need a coat for outdoor activities or harsh conditions, look for ripstop fabric, which is more resistant to tears and rips.
4. Proper Fit and Length
- Layering Room: Ensure the coat fits comfortably over layers, such as sweaters and hoodies. You should have enough room to move your arms without feeling restricted, but the coat shouldn’t be too loose, as this can let cold air in.
- Length: Longer coats provide more coverage and warmth, especially in very cold climates. Parkas and mid-thigh-length coats are great for keeping your core warm, while shorter jackets are more lightweight and flexible for movement.
5. Hood Design
- Insulated Hood: An insulated, adjustable hood is essential for keeping your head warm in freezing temperatures. Look for a hood that is lined with the same insulation as the coat for maximum warmth.
- Detachable Hood: Some coats come with detachable hoods, giving you the option to remove it for a cleaner, more streamlined look or when the weather is mild.

Travelers departing or arriving in Atlanta have a new way to speed through security lines: CLEAR has expanded its services at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The biometric security company has introduced expedited identity verification lanes at the international terminal, providing an enhanced travel experience.
CLEAR Expands To Atlanta Airport
“With our new lanes in the international terminal, our ambassadors are ready to offer a faster, more predictable, and secure journey for Atlanta passengers as travel continues to grow,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker in a statement.
This expansion aligns with increasing travel demand and offers Atlanta passengers a streamlined and efficient option for navigating airport security.
A lot of travelers not interested in paying for expedited travel may know little about CLEAR. So, let’s explain the service a bit so you can know it.
You can apply for CLEAR online, where you’ll be prompted to pay the $199 fee.
What Is CLEAR and How Does It Help Airline Passengers?
CLEAR is a biometric identification service that helps expedite security processes at airports, sports venues, and other locations by verifying a passenger’s identity through fingerprint or iris scans instead of traditional ID checks. Here’s how it benefits airport passengers:
Key Benefits:
- Faster Security Clearance:
- CLEAR allows passengers to skip long ID verification lines at airport security checkpoints. Members can proceed directly to the physical screening line, saving significant time during busy travel periods.
- Seamless Integration with TSA PreCheck:
- Passengers who combine CLEAR with TSA PreCheck experience an even quicker process, as they bypass the standard ID check and also access expedited physical screening (e.g., no need to remove shoes or laptops).
- Ease of Use:
- After enrolling in CLEAR, members simply scan their biometrics (fingerprint or iris) at designated kiosks, eliminating the need for physical IDs or boarding passes during the identity verification step.
- Wider Availability:
- CLEAR is available at over 50 airports and growing, along with other venues like stadiums, making it beneficial for frequent travelers and sports fans alike.
- Membership Perks:
- Members often receive other benefits, such as discounts on additional services and family plans allowing kids under 18 to accompany them for free.
Cost:
CLEAR membership costs approximately $189 per year, though discounts are often available for airline loyalty members, credit card holders, or frequent flyer programs.
Final Word
By significantly reducing time spent in security lines and offering a smoother travel experience, CLEAR is particularly advantageous for frequent travelers or those navigating busy airports
Not only is it the world’s busiest airport, but it’s state-of-the-art in every way. If you’re interested in traveling around Atlanta via car or even on scooter, here’s what to know.

The Georgia Builldogs are ranked No. 5 in the College Football Playoff Rankings, which were released Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. Aside from Georgia, the SEC has four other teams in the playoff.
An undefeated Oregon holding steady at No. 1, a position it has maintained throughout the initial year of the expanded 12-team field.
Georgia’s 2024 schedule, which was stacked with ranked teams, held the Athens squad get a good seeding.
As the last remaining undefeated team in the FBS, the Ducks are aiming for their second playoff appearance overall — their first since the four-team field was introduced after the 2014 season — heading into conference championship weekend.
Historically, seven of the 10 teams ranked No. 1 in the initial CFP Rankings during the four-team era have gone on to make the playoff, with Mississippi State (2014), Tennessee (2022), and Ohio State (2023) being the exceptions.
With eight additional spots available in the expanded field this season, Oregon sits in a strong position at 11-0 as the only undefeated team in the country.
Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Georgia round out the top five, with Georgia moving up to No. 5 after Ohio State’s loss to Michigan last Saturday, although the Buckeyes remain in the projected 12-team field.
The rankings have already upset college fanbases across the country, especially in South Carolina, which rode a six-game win streak until the schedule concluded.
ESPN commentator Booger McFarland remarked that the selection process was far from perfect.
“I think that’s gonna be a slippery slope as these playoffs continue to develop. … Miami is 10-2, Alabama is 9-3 … we better be careful as far as that’s concerned when these strength of schedules are imbalanced,” he said.
In the race for the final playoff spots among the three-loss SEC teams and Miami, Alabama currently holds the top spot, ahead of the Hurricanes, Ole Miss, and South Carolina.

After the Atlanta Falcons lost their third-straight game that looked a lot like quarterback ineptitude, many fans in Falcons Nation are getting vocal about making a change.
The burning question that Falcons fan want to know if whether its time to bench Kirk Cousins, who was paid $180 million for a four-year contract, which includes a $50 million signing bonus and $100 million guaranteed. The contract’s average annual value is $45 million.
Should the Falcons Bench Kirk Cousins for Penix?
Future Hall of Famer and former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan says, “I think you’ve got to stick with Kirk.”
Ryan’s rationale is that the Falcons face a Vikings defense with defensive coordinator Brian Flores, “all the different packages that he has from a blitz perspective.”
Ryan didn’t give a ringing endorsement for Cousins over the long haul of the season or even next week’s game.
“If it goes bad and it’s not kind of the first half that you want, I know Raheem has said that he’s not going to make a change at this point, but I think that they’d be apt to make an in-game change. It’s unfortunate because I think Kirk has been a really good player for a long time, but he’s just really struggled over the last couple of weeks.”
The Issue With Kirk Cousins’ Contract
Cousins’ contract with the Falcons will loom large over whether to keep him or trade him after the season. Of course, it also depends on Penix’s readiness.
Details of the contract:
- The contract was signed on March 11, 2024
- The contract includes a potential out before the 2026 season
- The contract makes Cousins the 14th highest-paid quarterback in the NFL
Impact on Cousins’ career earnings:
- If Cousins plays out the contract, his career earnings will be just over $411.6 million
- Cousins is now second on the list of highest-earning players in NFL history, behind only Aaron Rodgers
Other notable details:
- Cousins was coming off a season-ending Achilles injury
- Cousins’ contract guarantees $100 million
Can the Falcons Still Win the NFC South?
Yes, the Falcons can still win the NFC South, particularly because they swept the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier in the year. Here’s how the standings currently look.
Standings
NFC SOUTH W L Atlanta Falcons Falcons 6 6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Buccaneers 6 6 New Orleans Saints Saints 4 8 Carolina Panthers Panthers 3 9 Final Word
Cousins is known for his strong accuracy as a passer. Over his career, he has consistently ranked among the top quarterbacks in completion percentage. His ability to place the ball where his receivers can make plays is one of his defining traits. This is especially evident on shorter, intermediate routes, where Cousins thrives in delivering precise throws.
He is experiencing a slump that he must get out of if he’s going to lead the Falcons to the playoffs.

One thing you’ll notice when it comes to moving to Atlanta, Georgia, is how the real estate scene continues to evolve inside the city. What you’ll find there are heavily gentrified neighborhoods with “mini mansions” next to shacks and what not.
Although real estate prices in Atlanta continue to rise, the rush is on to gobble up the city’s remaining cheap homes for sale. Through it all, the gentrification of Atlanta continues.
In this article, we’re going to cover some key aspects of Atlanta’s gentrification and its impacts.
The strict definition of gentrification, according to the dictionary, is “the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle-class taste.”
The benefits of gentrification are many:
- Economic improvement
- Increases tax base and property values
- Raises the profile of the community
But the major con is that it promotes family displacement, particularly of disenfranchised communities that don’t have the means to rebuild once they relocate or can’t afford other areas of the city.
In July 2019, a Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia study found that Atlanta is the fourth-most gentrified city in the country, only behind these three cities:
- Washington D.C.
- Portland
- Seattle
The bank compiled its results from the 2000 census data and findings from the American Community Survey.
The study highlighted some adverse effects of gentrification but also noted its positive affects on children who are able to stay in the area.
“We find that on average, gentrification decreases their exposure to neighborhood poverty and increases their exposure toneighborhood education and employment levels, all of which have been shown to be correlated with greater economic opportunity,” the study said.
One of the more illustrative ways gentrification in Atlanta can be seen is through a study by the nonprofit National Community Reinvestment Coalition, which is based out of Washington, D.C.
The study and accompanying map shows cities affected the most by gentrification. If you search for this area, you’ll see that Atlanta is one of the most gentrified cities in the United States.
The report looked at over 1,000 American communities that experienced gentrification over a 13-year period beginning in the year 2000.
According to the study, Atlanta was the fifth-most gentrified city in America. Here’s the top 10.
- Washington, D.C — 40%
- San Diego, CA — 29%
- New York, NY — 24%
- Albuquerque, NM — 23%
- Atlanta, GA — 22%
- Baltimore, MD — 22%
- Portland, OR — 20%
- Pittsburgh, PA — 20%
- Seattle, WA — 20%
- Philadelphia, PA — 17%
Although it is a controversial notion, the truth is that gentrification is quietly championed by urban planners in Atlanta and other parts of Georgia.
It also can create ugly divisions among class. It’s no secret that as affluent people move into the neighborhood, a measure of resentment can arise.
The fact about many large metropolitan areas, Atlanta included, is that developers don’t build low-income housing, they build it for those with money.
To counteract the negative impact of gentrification in Atlanta, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has released the Atlanta Housing Affordability Action Plan, which outlines steps the city will take to provide housing for all.
Here’s A Map Of The Most Gentrified Neighborhoods In Atlanta

Via City of Atlanta The Most Gentrified Areas In Atlanta Include:
The map characterized the following areas of Atlanta as being in “late stage” gentrification:
- Old Fourth Ward
- Edgewood
- Kirkwood
- East Atlanta
The following areas are considered in the “dynamic stage” of gentrification, meaning the neighborhoods are under immense pressure to gentrify:
- Adair Park
- Bankhead
- Benteen Park
- Boulevard Heights
- Capitol View
- Dixie Hills
- Venetian Hills
- Fort McPherson
- Hunter Hills
- Mozley Park
- Venetian Hills
- West End
- West Lake
- West View
In the foreword of the action plan, Bottoms said” “The 45 actions in this Plan provide a roadmap to increase the supply of housing inthe City of Atlanta for a full spectrum of residents.”
One of the goals to to create or preserve 20,000 affordable homes by 2026, a bold but doable plan.
She added: “We will implement these actions in a transparent and open manner and hold ourselves accountable to the milestones, metrics, and goals outlined in this Plan.”
Final Word
Go to almost any part of Atlanta’s inner city and you will see the signs of gentrification, freshly remodeled homes just blocks away from blighted properties and more. While home prices continue to increase, you might want to look into renting at least for a while.

It’s time to get serious about losing those extra pounds. Fortunately, your goals are in sight if you work hard.
Of course, you can always join a gym and hit the treadmill, the free weights and the machines to do your repetitions. But there’s another way…
Here’s How To Lose Weight Without Exercise
This article is going to show you how to lose weight without exercise and it’s not a trick. Let’s get started…
1. Cut The Sugar
You don’t have to do on the latest fad diet to lose weight without exercise, but you do have to eat better and cleaner. The #1 to do that is to cut out sugar.
If you’re serious about losing weight, it’s not enough to just cut down on the sugar, you need to cut it out completely.
2. Drink Plenty Of Water
In addition to cutting the sugar, you’re going to have to increase your water intake big-time.
But how much water should you drink a day? Physicians typically say that the average person needs eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
That’s the equivalent of drinking a 2 liter of water in a bottle, or a half gallon. That’s a good way to stay hydrated and get your body to flush itself out continually.
3. Get Plenty Of Rest
If you want your body to work for you, you need to get plenty of rest. Going to sleep early can give your body the rest it needs as well as cut down on late-night snacking.
But here’s the thing: Not a lot of people know that the way we actually lose pounds is through our sleep. By sleeping our body emits pounds through our mouth. Get some rest!
4. Reduce Your Portion Size
Another good way to lose weight without exercising is to reduce your portions on your plate.
We live in a Super Size Me society these days, and it’s killing us. But you don’t have to subscribe to those eating habits.
Don’t order extra large fries, drinks or anything like that, and if you do, save half of it for the next day.
5. Add A Veggie Night
One thing you’re going to have to come to terms with is that you’re trying to help your body’s nutrition. That means eat more fruits and vegetables.
We already told you to cut the sugar, now it’s time to choose a night to skip the meat. If you add a veggie night, you can drastically improve your health.
Final Word
As any health nut will tell you, losing weight isn’t a fad, it’s a lifestyle. And a lifestyle change takes a lot of effort and contemplation.
If you happen to slip up and relapse periodically, don’t give up!
If you need some inspiration, keep a journal to document your path to lose weight. You’ll be happy you followed these steps in the end.
