Atlanta Film Festival 2018: What you need to know

What gives this year’s festival even more power is the fact that Georgia is No. 1 as far as film production. Atlanta is now an official movie mecca with crews, talent and production agencies growing by leaps and bounds.

This year’s film entries, more than 7,600, broke a record. The final movie lineup consists of 58 feature length films and 150 short films from 56 countries.
Many of this year’s movies will be by firsttime filmmakers and women.
“Now is an exciting time to be making films and telling these stories, because there aren’t as many expectations of rejection or pressures to be polite,” says Atlanta writer/director Katie Orr, told The AJC. “Women are empowered right now and instead of nicely asking for a chance, we’re saying, ‘No, you will listen to our stories and we will be the ones doing the storytelling.’”
The films will be screened at various locations around Midtown Atlanta. See the complete 2018 schedule here.

Artz Eatz and Beatz takes place this weekend, Saturday, April 14 in Atlanta. The event, which began as a vehicle to help, educate and to bring awareness to breast cancer and to help fund the research for a cure, is in third year.
The event organizer says this about the cause: “I recently lost the love of my life to breast cancer and wanted to do something to continue the effort in fighting this disease. We both loved art, we both loved food and we both loved music, so Artz Eatz and Beatz was born.”

  • Dish Of The Week: Odd Bird’s Chicken Fried Steak

    2 Min Read

Yard bird is second nature in Atlanta. I mean, you can find fried chicken in all four corners of metro Atlanta, NW, SW, NE, SE. But delicious fried chicken? Now, that’s another matter.

The city has made a name for itself with boneless chicken (Chick-Fil-A), chicken with bones in it (everywhere else) and even baked chicken (Picadilly). But there’s one place that knows what it’s doing when it comes to fried chicken.

Odd Bird’s Chicken Fried Steak Available April 11

On the second Wednesday of each month, West Egg Cafe hosts a pop-up concept called Odd Bird and their Chicken Fried Steak, with white gravy, waffle, rosemary syrup, is the Southern dish you need in your life.

On Wednesday, April 11, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., the Odd Bird will have the yard bird on and poppin’.

Hot chicken is having a serious moment in Atlanta. What with the entry of Gus’ Hot Chicken and Richard’s in Krog Street Market, you’d think a live spicy bird swooped to the city and made its nest. But while those restaurants are all good, Odd Bird has a captivating allure about it that is hard to match, let alone put into words.

Odd Bird is located at 1100 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30318.

See you Wed, April 11, 5:30-9pm, at .
