  • New Video From Atlanta’s Janelle Monae: ‘I Like That’

    2 Min Read

On Monday, April 16, Atlanta’s futuristic songstress Janelle Monae released the new audio, the song “I Like That,” from her upcoming “Dirty Computer” album. The sultry ballad is poised to be a spring anthem for Monae, whose newest project is highly anticipated.

The album’s first two singles, “Django Jane” and “Make Me Feel,” have fans in a frenzy for the full project, which is set to be released on April 27, 2018. For those of us who’ve been checking for Monae for minute, her first EP, “Metropolis: A Suite (The Chase),” showed that she has long been married to afrofuturism.

Read more: Janelle Monae’s afrofuturistic dark fantasyAs for the music, Monae is now more confident in her sonic space than ever before, in large part to her fallen mentor, Prince.

“It’s difficult for me to even speak about this because Prince was helping me with the album, before he passed on to another frequency,” she told The Guardian in February.

She said that the Purple One helped her to shed any inhibitions that crimped her creativity — and for that, she is forever grateful. “I wouldn’t be as comfortable with who I am if it had not been for Prince. I mean, my label Wondaland would not exist without Paisley Park coming before us.”

  • STATS Sports Bar Adding On-Site Brewery

    1 Min Read

Upscale ports bar STATS in downtown Atlanta will be done remodeling its space in July, the eatery recently said. The sports bar is retrofitting part of the building to add an on-site brewery and is also rebranding itself as STATS BrewPub.

The popular bar located at 300 Marietta St. NW, is also adding to its beer list in a big way.

“The brewery is something we’ve been thinking about, and with the ever growing popularity in the craft beer scene, especially in Atlanta, it seems like a great opportunity and addition to our restaurant,” said Legacy Ventures Chief Operating Officer for Restaurants Brian Bullock. “Our beer program will remain very strong, offering a little something for everyone, and now adding our own brews will make STATS even more of a dining destination.”

STATS is the defacto sports bar for tourists and business visitors in downtown Atlanta. The rebranding figures to have nary an effect to the site’s choice as a place to watch the Hawks, Falcons and other games.

  • Blue Cantina Opens In East Atlanta + They’re Hiring

    1 Min Read

Latin-American fusion restaurant Blue Cantina opened its doors in East Atlanta last week on April 19, 2018.

The eatery has risen anew after its old location near downtown Atlanta was razed after the balcony collapsed in 2017. Because they’re in rebuilding mode, the restaurant is hiring for a number of positions.

The new site at 1242 Glenwood Ave SE is more airy and offers room to grow if that’s necessary. The menu favorites are all there, including the Braised Beef Tacos, TLC Tacos and Latin Fusion Wings.

Here’s what the restaurant says about itself online: “Blending traditional Mexican flavors with a slightly southern twist, BLU Cantina boasts a modern decor to indulge the senses. No matter your seat, you’re guaranteed an epicurean experience of endless measure destined to leave you wanting more.”

  • Atlanta Falcons 2018 Football Schedule

Atlanta Falcons 2018 Football Schedule Released: Dates, Times

    3 Min Read

Dirty Bird Fever has began in earnest right now. That’s because the new Atlanta Falcons football schedule has been released. The squad will begin their second campaign in the still-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where they look to be playing at home during the Super Bowl.

    Atlanta Falcons 2018 Football Schedule

Falcons owner Arthur Blank has invested heavily in the team’s offense by choosing to give quarterback Matt Ryan largely what he wants in salary negotiations. The team has also shored up defensive and offensive lines, which both struggled at times last season.

Julio Jones, Muhammad Sanu and Devante Freeman will all be back and looking to reignite the firepower that was No. 1 in the league two season s ago. This year, the Falcons open the season against the Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles on the road. On Thanksgiving, the Falcons will play division rival the New Orleans Saints in what will likely be crucial game for the crown.

3 big Falcons game to watch in 2018

This season, the Birds play their first Monday night game at home against the New York Football Giants on Oct. 22. Because it’s in the NFC, this will be an extraordinarily big game. Furthermore, this will raise the profile of the Falcons tremendously if they can get the W.

Don’t get it twisted, there is no game bigger than the Thanksgiving showdown against the Saints in the Big Easy. Not only are the teams holders of the biggest rivalry in the NFL, but the game may well determine the division champion.

The previous week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys will be a similarly high-profile matchup that will have enormous implications for the NFC. Last year the Falcons disposed of the Cowboys, who were without their star running back Ezekial Elliott. This year promises to be a different game.

Here is the Atlanta Falcons 2018 schedule.

Bank Program Aims To Boost Atlanta Homeownership

    2 Min Read

If you’re looking to buy (or keep) a home in Atlanta, a new bank program will be available to city residents as part of an outreach plan. Wells Fargo, along with NeighborWorks America and its network members, has committed $6 million to boosting homeownership in metro Atlanta.

The investment is particularly earmarked for homes in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties.

NeighborhoodLIFT Program To Aid Homeownership In Atlanta

“This investment from Wells Fargo will help provide well-deserved stability and economic security for hardworking families and individuals who dream of homeownership,” Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said in a statement. “There is a critical need in our community to create equitable opportunities for everyone who desires to live in Atlanta. I am thankful to Wells Fargo, NeighborWorks and Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc. for working together to bring this innovative program back to our residents.”

Overall, Wells Fargo has presided over nearly 60 LIFT program events around the United States since 2012.

Hundreds of homebuyers will converge on downtown Atlanta on May 4 and 5 to attend the NeighborhoodLIFT event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart. Thats’ when grant eligibility will be determined to buy a home in the counties of Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, or Gwinnett.

While registration is full, walk-ins are welcome to meet with a nonprofit specialist while funds are available for reservation. Those intending to walk in should be prepared with documents required to reserve funds posted at www.andpi.org/lift.
