In a normal year, you could expect up to 80,000 to converge upon downtown Decatur for the book festival, including countless authors, book publishers and literary fans. This year, it’s reasonable to expect a more subdued attendance.

Update June15, 2019: Comedian and movie star Tiffany Haddish has canceled her planned performance at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta over the state’s “heartbeat” bill.
The actress sent a statement to ticketholders saying that “After much deliberation, I am postponing my upcoming show in Atlanta. I love the state of Georgia, but I need to stand with women and until they withdraw Measure HB481, I cannot in good faith perform there.”
The controversial heartbeat bill will go into effect January 1, 2020 unless lawmakers reverse course. Critics fear the state’s film industry will be gutted if the bill becomes law.

The Tiffany Haddish show is set to run from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Fox Theatre in Midtown Atlanta.
