One of the most elusive fares you can get in the airline industry is a bereavement fare.
Delta Air Lines and other carriers sell bereavement fares to fliers in need. Because this are usually last minute, they can be pricey.
A bereavement fare is a flight that is discounted because of the death or impending death of a loved one such as a relative.
How To Get A Bereavement Fare From Delta Air Lines
Delta’s bereavement policy is based on three requirements:
- The death or imminent death must be a member of your immediate family
- The flight is subject to availability
- You can’t book a bereavement fare online; you must call Delta
The price of a Delta bereavement fare will vary based on many factors, including date and time. The airline says that such fares offer “additional flexibility on the best published fare for your itinerary when last minute travel is required.”
How much of a discount are bereavement fares?
Bereavement fares can be as cheap as 50% off, but increasingly the discounts are much lower than that.
The price all depends on the flight availability. Many times, bereavement fares may not even be the cheapest flights. Sales on airfare may make for a more affordable option.
How to Book A Delta Bereavement Fare
Call Delta Reservations at 800-221-1212 to book a bereavement fare for domestic flights or 800-241-4141 for international flights.
As alluded to earlier, you can’t purchase bereavement fares on delta.com. You may get a cheaper flight, but that is not a guarantee. What is promised is that service fees will be waived.
Tips For Calling An Airline For A Bereavement Fare
When you call the airline, you want to make sure you take some steps to help you with your goal of getting an affordable flight.
- Be flexible
- Be kind
- Be honest
When you call the airline, you’ll want to remain calm and not break down over the phone, as you want to communicate as clearly as you can.
Ask the reservations agent if they have a nonstop flights, since you don’t want to get delayed due to connecting flights.
In the end, you want to make sure you get the help you need by being a partner in trying to get a bereavement fare.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith came, he saw and concurred. Quarterback Desmond Ridder can’t deliver what the team needs over the remainder of the season.
Ridder has been benched by Smith, according to news reports. If you watch the Falcons, you know that this is the second time this season that the Falcons have chosen to sit their starting quarterback.
In his stead, Gwinnett football standout Taylor Heinicke will resume the starting role as signal caller. In three games for the Falcons this season, Heinicke has thrown for 498 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Confidence evidently waned after the Falcons’ 9-7 defeat to the hapless Carolina Panthers last week.
What Are Desmond Ridder’s Stats For the 2023 Season?
Ridder threw for 300 yards three times during the season, but was plagued by turnovers and bad decisions in clutch moments. Here are his 2023 stats:

The event was curated around raising money for the Georgia Homeless Pets Animal Rescue Group, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to save, care for, and place animals into loving homes.
“Frost Bytz appreciates everyone who attended our event,” said Bakir Floyd, co-founder of Frost Bytz, an Atlanta-based company that specializes in providing frozen doggy treats. “We’re happy that we were able to provide so much joy and make an impact with organizations like the Georgia Homeless Pets Animal Rescue Group, Lifeline Animal Project, and Happy Hearts Pet Care Atlanta.”
In addition to the money that was raised, Frost Bytz contributed a check of $500 to Georgia Homeless Pets Animal Rescue Group and also gave $500 checks to both Lifeline Animal Project and Happy Hearts Pet Care Atlanta.
Hosted by Atlanta radio personality Reec (Majic 107.5) and creative directed by Marcus Blassingame, attendees experienced a doggy fashion show, where models and dogs walked down the runway with wears by fashion designer Ricardo Auguste.
Auguste is the owner of Beaut Outerwear, a custom clothing label that designs garments for both pets and pet owners.
A few of the dogs that were up for adoption also strutted down the runway in Beaut Outerwear, allowing potential new dog owners to see what they got. Additionally, attendees were able to take part in unique photo opportunities with four handmade custom holiday sets, where pet owners posed with their dogs.
“This was the perfect event to kick off the holiday season for pet owners. We were able to not only provide them with a unique experience for their dogs, but we also were able to give back to organizations that make an impact in the pet community,” Floyd said.
Floyd also commented that the success of this event means that the company will attempt to host more unique events with the same mission, supporting organizations that help dogs in need.

Carriage rules dictate the policies of airlines when it comes to who they can and can’t carry aboard their aircraft.
