Develop Fulton, the development authority for Fulton County, recently made two major moves for its board. They re-appointed restaurateur and philanthropist Pinky Cole Hayes to its board of directors and appointed Lynne Riley, former Georgia State Treasurer, as a new board member.
Develop Fulton, formally known as the Development Authority of Fulton County, is an agency focused on promoting economic development and growth within Fulton County, Georgia.
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners recently approved both appointments, reinforcing the County’s dedication to inclusive leadership and economic progress.
Pinky Cole Hayes, founder of Slutty Vegan and CEO of the Pinky Cole Foundation, will serve another four-year term. Since joining the board in 2021, she has contributed an entrepreneurial perspective and cultural insight to Develop Fulton’s initiatives.
“It’s a privilege to continue serving with this remarkable team,” said Cole Hayes. “Develop Fulton shapes the future of business and community in the county, and I’m excited to contribute to its innovative and inclusive vision.”
Lynne Riley, a distinguished public finance leader, joins the board with extensive experience, having served as President of the Georgia Student Finance Commission, Georgia State Revenue Commissioner, and State Representative for House District 50 (Johns Creek).
“I’m thrilled to join Develop Fulton and support strategies that foster sustainable growth for Fulton County’s residents and businesses,” said Riley. “I look forward to applying my expertise in financial stewardship and public service during this critical time.”

The tragic death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner has shocked longtime fans of the actor and thespian, who lived in Atlanta in recent years.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner lived in Atlanta during his multi-season run on the TV show The Resident, where he played Dr. AJ “The Raptor” Austin.
His ties to the city began while filming the show, which used Atlanta’s High Museum of Art as a filming location.
Shameka Coleman, an Atlanta resident who worked as an extra on The Resident, said that Warner was ever the professional on set.
”He was kind to everyone who met him,” she said. “It was almost like he was a calming influence to the whole cast. What I remember is that he was just real classy.”
After The Resident ended in 2023, Warner maintained a strong connection to Atlanta, frequently returning for performances, speaking engagements, and community advocacy.
Soon he put down roots here. His last video on social media was of him driving around Atlanta, musing about his daughter and how thankful he was for life.
How and When Did Malcolm-Jamal Warner Die?
Warner died on July 20, 2025, at the age of 54, in an accidental drowning while vacationing with his family in Costa Rica.
According to reports, he was swimming at Playa Cocles in Limón Province when he was caught in a strong ocean current.
Bystanders attempted to rescue him, but he was declared lifeless by the Costa Rican Red Cross upon reaching the shore. The official cause of death was confirmed as asphyxia by submersion due to drowning.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner: Early Years
Malcolm-Jamal Warner began his acting career at a young age, driven by a combination of natural talent, early exposure to the arts, and encouragement from his family.
Born on August 18, 1970, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Warner was raised by his mother, Pamela Warner, who recognized his creative potential early on. She enrolled him in acting classes and workshops as a child, fostering his interest in performance.
Warner’s entry into professional acting came through his participation in community theater and school productions.
His charisma and stage presence caught the attention of casting directors, leading to early roles in television. At age 9, he made his TV debut in a 1980 episode of the series Trapper John, M.D. This small role marked his entry into the industry.
His big break came in 1984 when he was cast as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show at age 14. The role was secured after a nationwide casting search, where Warner stood out for his natural comedic timing and relatability.
The success of The Cosby Show propelled him to fame, cementing his career in acting. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he continued to build on this foundation, taking roles in TV shows like Malcolm & Eddie and guest appearances in various series, while also exploring theater and directing.

As he grew, Warner explored his creativity with spoken word and music, even releasing an album and performing with a band.
Atlanta Years
Warner had been coming to Atlanta for years for acting roles.
He was cast as co-lead on Reed Between the Lines opposite Tracie-Ellis Ross. Craig Johnson, an extra on the short lived show, which was filmed in Atlanta, remembers Warner as a gracious actor.
“He didn’t treat you any different no matter if you were an extra, a grip or a producer. Just a real humble person.”
Later cast on the hit show The Resident, Warner moved to Atlanta for filming and fell in love with the place.
Becoming a husband and father, Warner lived in a quiet personal life around metro Atlanta while stepping out for creative purposes.
He was often seen performing around town, including at coffee shop Buteco in Grant Park.
He was deeply involved in the city’s arts scene, performing with his bands Biological Misfits and Miles Long, and participating in events like the Atlanta Jazz Festival and the Beloved Community Awards.
Information related to his funeral and memorial services have yet to be announced.

Trails are extremely moderate for an experienced hiker, but present diverse landscape. The trails were well marked, mostly clear from a lot of foot traffic and dirt. Look out for armadillos! We saw two while we were here. You’ll hear them rustling around. We enjoyed going all the way around the loop and then ending with a peek at both waterfalls which weren’t too full but couldn’t have fomo. Lots of stairs to the waterfalls as expected. Camping, RV spots, cabins+ available for an extended stay. The trails were lively with people and dogs enjoying the mild Tuesday afternoon. I do recommend! Views still available right off from the parking lot if you are not feeling a hike. Bonus is that the park also has a disc golf course.”
4. Fort Mountain State Park
Here’s what one visitor says about Fort Mountain Park. “We visited Fort Mountain State Park recently and we had a wonderful time. Since we have visited all 56 Tennessee State Parks we thought we would visit Georgia State Parks. We are glad we went here. We enjoyed seeing the 4 story look out tower. It was a hike to it but not to hard. There is a lot of history here and several plaques are placed so we could read them. From the tower we hiked to the over look. Wow. This has amazing views here. We also drove around the park and we saw a nice lake and campground. There is another trail that goes to a waterfall which is nice. Overall great experience. Can’t wait to go back.”
5. Tallulah Gorge State Park
Here’s what one visitor says about Tallulah State Gorge Park: “What an absolutely beautiful park. We spent two days at the park, walking trails and enjoying the sights and water, and we still didn’t get the opportunity to see everything. But what we did see was stunning!
There are miles of trails you can hike. Some are located on the north side and some on the south side of the gorge. Additionally, you can cross the gorge via the suspension bridge, and even go to the bottom of the gorge. That said, we didn’t go to the bottom – it’s only 100 passes a day, though they are free – but I imagine it’s awesome. And we are hoping to do that ourselves next visit. I highly, highly recommend you been in decent to good shape if you plan to go to the bottom because there are a lot of steps (over 1000 total down and back up) that you must climb to do so. We opted to go down to the suspension bridge and back up and it was quite a work out on its own.”
6. Sweetwater Creek
Here’s what one reviewer says about Sweetwater Creek State Park: “A very well-staffed park. Excellent signage to direct you on where to go. We only took the Red Trail to see the Mill Ruins on a quick visit, but I do recommend that one for beginner hikers! The path is nicely packed and wide for comfort without much of a grade. I was a little disappointed in all the fencing around the ruins keeping you from getting a closer look, but I totally understand the purpose of it being there. The water was lovely and calming also. I would recommend this spot for a nice, relaxing afternoon in nature.”

The City of Atlanta is partnering with the PATH Foundation to create a city-wide trail plan called Trails ATL.
Trails ATL: What We Know So Far
Trails ATL is an ambitious citywide trail expansion plan initiated by the City of Atlanta in partnership with the PATH Foundation to enhance the city’s walkability and connectivity through a comprehensive multi-use trail network.
Approved unanimously by the Atlanta City Council on June 16, 2025, the plan aims to create a 535-mile trail network, ensuring 95% of Atlantans have access to safe, inviting trails within a 10-minute walk or wheelchair trip by 2052.
How Large Will Trails ATL Be and Where Will It Connect?
The initiative seeks to improve transportation options, reduce car dependency, and enhance quality of life by connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools, MARTA stations, and commercial hubs. It aims to make Atlanta one of the most trail-connected cities in the U.S., potentially surpassing current greenway networks.
The plan includes adding 420 miles of new trails to the existing 100+ miles already built or funded, creating a network that integrates greenways, protected street trails, and multi-use paths designed for all ages and abilities, including wheelchair users, walkers, runners, cyclists, and scooter users.
Trails ATL: Phase 1
Phase 1 focuses on areas like Buckhead, Lakewood, Adams Park, and southwest Atlanta’s Emerald Network, connecting underserved areas to key destinations. Trails like the Virginia Trail near Piedmont Park and the Airport Trail south of downtown are highlighted.
The first phase, spanning a decade, proposes 35 miles of trails across 23 projects, including 29 miles of greenways and 6 miles of protected street trails, with an estimated cost of $252 million. Key projects include trails like Adams Park Trail, Blue Heron Greenway, Proctor Creek Greenway, and the Olympic Trail.
Trails ATL: What Are Residents Saying?
Developed over 18 months with over 100 public meetings, the plan incorporates community input to determine trail locations and types, ensuring they meet local needs. It also aims to address concerns about displacement by integrating anti-displacement strategies.
