  • See Emma Knight’s New Artwork At Brickworks Gallery

    1 Min Read

Virginia-based painter Emma Knight recently debuted her latest art exhibition Walking the ATL, which opened at Brickworks Gallery on June 2. The artwork, which comes from photos she took during a nearly 20-mile trek around the city last fall, shows Atlanta from the pedestrian’s view.

Speaking to Artsatl.com, Knight said: ““I am a romantic, and I love fairy tales. So I guess that informs the way I see things. And I love doing trees. There’s something very elegant, even a little spooky, about a bare limb. By the same token, there is nothing more beautiful than the combination of voluminous shapes in tandem with very sharp, thin lines.”

Her style includes painting a picture on the canvas and even distorting reality “if necessary,” she told the publication.

The Beltline has made major strides in engaging the city’s arts community. Knight’s work will only serve to strengthen those efforts as more homegrown artists discover the possibilities.

Walking the ATL runs uns through August 31 at Brickworks Gallery.

  • Taco Mac Closes In CNN Center In Downtown Atlanta

Call it a victim of progress. Taco Mac, which has been anchored in the CNN Center for a decade, recently closed its doors, AtlantaFi has learned. The restaurant closed abruptly at the end of April 2018.

The site has seen many restaurants come and go, but one has to wonder how its neighboring restaurant, Dantanna’s, is doing. Major expansion has occurred over the past few years in downtown Atlanta, with restaurants being opened and closed on a regular basis.

Taco Mac in CNN Center closes down

The company, which was founded in Atlanta in 1979, was recently sold to Morehouse College graduate Harold Martin Jr. and three of his partners from Fresh Hospitality, a Nashville-based restaurant incubator.

There is no word on whether the shuttered Taco Mac spot has been acquired by another tenant.

When it comes to restaurants, Atlanta is quickly gaining ground on some of the dining capitals around the United States.

Fast-casual is the dining trend du jour around metro Atlanta restaurants. The concept involves mixing the quick accessibility of fast food with the casual dining experience. Food in Atlanta is also adapting to the various tastes of the migrants that come here to live.

Patrons typically order off a menu board like they would at a burger joint, but the convenience of sitting down to leisurely enjoy their food has made the segment a popular one with the restaurant industry.

The craze hasn’t escaped metro Atlanta’s food and drink scene, which has seen a fast-caz explosion in recent years.
