Review: Buttermilk Biscuit in College Park

    3 Min Read

One of the best places to eat in College Park (technically Atlanta) is Buttermilk Biscuit, which opened a few months ago. I had originally tried it on its second day of operation, and there were only a few customers inside.

When I came back a month later, the place was pretty much packed. Its hours run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., so you’d better get there early if you want a good seat.

    How To Find Buttermilk Biscuit

Buttermilk Biscuit is located at 634 Virginia Ave, Atlanta, GA 30337. Here’s a map to help you find it.

    What I Ordered

Ok, so I’ve gone there several times. The first two times I ordered the Cajun Shrimp and Grits, which come with creamy grits, jumbo shrimp, sautéed spinach, peppers and onions, cherry tomatoes, award winning Cajun cream sauce.

After that, I ordered my go-to: The Early Bird, which is four crispy chicken wings, served with our famous waffles, powdered sugar, and maple butter.

    Buttermilk Biscuit menu in Atlanta.

You also have the choice of different butters for a 50 cent upcharge: Blueberry Butter, Strawberry Butter, Maple Butter and Peach Butter.

The waffles, which have just the right crunchiness on the ends, but are soft in the middle, come sprinkled with confection sugar, which I love. The chicken wings are sizeable and are seasoned in the Southern tradition. The meal may look like small to some, but you’ll be full when you finish. At least, I was.

The customer service was still trying to settle down after opening recently, but the to-go orders are fast and accurate. You have to order on the Toast app to get your food, which is an efficient process.

Overall, Buttermilk Biscuit Gets an A

An A Grade, means it’s worth your while and I would say Buttermilk Biscuit makes the grade with ease.

    Final Word

Atlanta is having a restaurant renaissance. Hot chicken is the rage in Atlanta’s dining scene right now. But so are chicken and waffles.

In the Hapeville, College Park area, the breakfast wars have begun in earnest. A new contender has arisen though: Buttermilk Biscuit.

The eatery, which opened quietly in Virginia Station in November 2023, has made a big impact on the breakfast plans of many a resident in southwest Atlanta, including me.

What’s On the Menu at Buttermilk Biscuit?

The menu has several delicious dishes that will make your morning. Here’s a list of some faves:

    • Deviled Egg Breakfast: 5 creamy filled halves with ground chicken sausage, topped with bacon bits.
    • Fried Green Tomatoes: Unripe tomatoes battered and fried golden and served with goat cheese. Remoulade sauce on the side.
    • Buttermilk Biscuit Trio: Savory Blueberry Lemon Zest, Garlic Cheddar and Buttermilk Biscuit served with your choice of housemade jam and butter.
    • Very Berry French Toast: Four slices of brioche toast topped with seasonal berries and powdered sugar. Served with house-made berry compote and maple syrup on the side.
    • The Morning Dish Breakfast: Choice of biscuit or toast with two eggs, choice of breakfast potatoes, grits or fruit, and choice of breakfast sausage or bacon. *Optional vegan substitutes.

What To Order at Butttermilk Biscuit

My favorite is The Early Bird, which consists of four crispy chicken wings, served with our famous waffles, powdered sugar, and maple butter.

    Last Word

if you’re looking for a great place to eat, College Park has several places to go. The College Park dining scene encompasses some of the best restaurants on Atlanta’s South Side.

Who needs fast food when you can try amazing dishes from some of the top chefs around the Southeast? The local restaurant scene in Atlanta could use your support.

When you think of “The Strip,” your mind might imagine Vegas. “The Magnificent Mile” may conjure Chicago’s shopping district. College Park, Georgia’s Main Street might as will be called Meal Street.

I’m just going to go out on a limb and say that the quarter-mike stretch of Main Street may have more black restaurants than any other place in America. But College Park’s culinary foot print goes beyond that special strip of road. There are also authentic spots that represent different cuisines and cultures around the world.
That not only makes College Park special, but that makes it historic as well. And it just might make you hungry.

No matter if you’re in the mood for seafood, American cuisine like burgers and fries or even all-day breakfast, Main Street has it.
