According to TMZ, the filmmaker and studio owner closed on the property in a gated community. The home, built in 2021, spans 14,475 square feet on nearly 1.4 acres. It includes five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a movie theater, an open-concept kitchen, a pool, and a gym. Tyler Perry is not easing off the gas. Details are emerging on the cast of his next Netflix thriller.
The project is Tyler Perry’s Confabulation, a psychological thriller written and directed by Perry for Netflix. Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris) and Taylour Paige (I Love Boosters, Zola) will star, with Shamier Anderson (John Wick: Chapter 4) in a key supporting role.

Tyler Perry is moving to Puerto Rico in early 2027. The announcement, comes from an exclusive interview he gave TODAY special correspondent Justin Sylvester on September 14, 2026.
In the clip, Perry confirms the relocation after being asked whether he ever plans to “chill out.” “Yes, I am officially — you’re the first to hear this — I am officially moving to Puerto Rico,” he said. “No, this is real. He addresses the question many viewers asked after the movie arrived: why the psychologist who anchored the first two films is missing from the third. The clip quickly gained traction, drawing more than a million views.
Why Janet Jackson Wasn’t in ‘Why Did I Get Married Again’
Tyler Perry wrote, directed, and starred in the original Why Did I Get Married? (2007) and its sequel Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010). Both films follow a group of college friends who gather for annual retreats to examine their marriages. Janet Jackson played Dr. Patricia Agnew, a composed psychologist whose professional poise contrasted with the private pain she carried after the death of her young son. Her husband Gavin, played by Malik Yoba, died in a car accident at the end of the second film, leaving her story on an unresolved note.
When Perry posted the script cover for the third film in 2025 and tagged the original ensemble—including Jackson—fans expected a full reunion. The finished movie, which premiered on Netflix on September 9, 2026, instead brought back most of the core cast (Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, Sharon Leal, Richard T. Perry’s Explanation
Perry has been consistent in interviews: the reason was scheduling, not conflict. “Janet, at the time, she was doing a residency in Vegas, so we couldn’t work out the time,” he told Culture Creators. “But who knows what will happen in the future.” Jackson’s Las Vegas residency ran from December 2024 through September 2025, overlapping with production.
The viral clip circulating on X appears to be Perry repeating and slightly expanding on that point at a premiere or press event, standing in front of the film’s poster. He frames the absence as a practical mismatch rather than a creative or personal falling-out and leaves the door open for a later installment.
Inside the movie itself, the characters offer a story-world explanation. Angela and Marcus tell the group that Patricia is on a lecture tour and therefore cannot attend their daughter’s wedding in Italy. They also note that she may still be grieving Gavin. No new actress replaces her; the film simply proceeds without the character on screen.
Patricia’s Place in the Franchise
Fans had speculated for months after the official cast list dropped without Jackson’s name. Some assumed drama; others pointed to her touring schedule. Perry’s on-camera comments cut through the rumors by treating the situation as ordinary industry logistics. Michael Jai White had earlier said Patricia is “not gone gone” and that a fourth film could bring her back if schedules lined up. Perry’s remarks align with that possibility.

The label, named after Perry’s late mother, Maxine, is designed as a creator-first home for independent storytellers who often struggle to get their work from festival screens to actual theaters.

The official Maxscene site describes the division as “creator-first, audience-focused, and beholden to no one’s blueprint.” It will develop, produce, and distribute films across genres, giving filmmakers a chance to build on existing audiences while reaching new ones.
Named for a mother’s belief
Perry has long credited his mother, Willie Maxine Perry — a New Orleans preschool teacher who died in 2009 — as the person who believed in him first. That personal history is the origin of the name.
“Everything I’ve built in my career carries my mother with it, and Maxscene is named in her honor,” Perry said. “My mother, Maxine, believed in me before anyone else did, and that belief is the reason I never stopped chasing this path. Maxscene exists to be that same source of belief for the next generation of storytellers. It’s about taking the confidence and encouragement she poured into me and paying it forward by championing filmmakers who need someone to believe in them, open the door, and help them reach the audience waiting on the other side.”
Leadership and mission
Antoinetta Stallings, Head of Development & Acquisitions at Tyler Perry Studios, will oversee Maxscene. She previously served as vice president of unscripted programming and helped launch the studio’s joint venture with Pantheon Media Group.
Stallings framed the launch as a response to a familiar industry problem: finished films that never find a path to audiences.
“I’ve spent my career working alongside filmmakers and watching incredibly talented storytellers struggle to find distribution for films that deserved to be seen,” she said. “That’s why launching Maxscene is such an exciting and necessary moment. We’re creating a home where independent filmmakers can build a career, not just release a movie. Maxscene gives creators the resources, support, and a path to distribution so their films have every opportunity to reach the audiences who may not have otherwise discovered them.”
Support is expected to vary by project. The division can acquire finished work, come in earlier during development or production, and offer access to Tyler Perry Studios’ Atlanta campus — including stages, infrastructure, and related resources.
First slate still under wraps
The first projects have been described only by genre so far: a thriller, a romantic comedy, and a coming-of-age story. Titles, casts, and release plans are expected in the coming months, with some reporting pointing to a first slate arriving in early 2027.3
Maxscene sits alongside other studio efforts to open doors for new talent, including the TPS Dreamers internship program and earlier filmmaker-development initiatives. For Perry, whose Atlanta lot has long been a production hub for his own films and series, the new label marks a clearer turn toward backing outside voices rather than only his own catalog.9
