The series, created by Andy Cooley, will be broken down into three seasons.
Season 1 focuses on Eleanor Roosevelt (Anderson)
Season 2 will be about Betty Ford (Pfeiffer)
Season 3 will center on Michelle Obama (Davis)
Let’s look at each of the main characters and their legacies.
Michelle PFeiffer As Betty Ford
First Lady Betty Ford was known as one of the most outspoken first ladies that have ever been in the White House. Her liberal stances on many social issues caused some stinging rebukes from Republicans despite her husband’s attempts to appear as a moderate.
Mrs. Ford also helped raise awareness for women’s issues like breast cancer after she underwent a mastectomy in 1974. She also did a lot to make treatment for drug abuse more acceptable among the public, rather than a strictly criminal issue.
Gillian Anderson As Eleanor Roosevelt
For much of her time in the White House, Eleanor Roosevelt was seen as a controversial figure, mainly for her unwavering support of civil rights for black Americans.
She also knew how to charm the media outlets in the day. She was adept at giving regular news conferences, she wrote a magazine column and even hosted a radio show.
Viola Davis As Michelle Obama
As the only two women who are contemporaries, Davis and Obama have a lot in common.
Obama, the wife of the nation’s 44th president, Barack Obama, is the only first lady that is a lawyer. Despite enduring racial attacks from her own constituents, Mrs. Obama adopted a “when they go low, we go high” mantra. She took on obesity among the youth and became a staunch advocate for clean eating and exercise.
