The Atlanta Falcons traveled to Ford Field with sound offensive and defensive plans for the Detroit Lions. None of it mattered, as the Falcons lose their first game of the season, 20 to 6 to Detroit.
To say that the offense was listless would be an understatement: First-year starter Desmond Ridder was 21 for 38 for 201 yards. Bijan Robinson, who many were hoping would churn big runs, only managed 33 yards on 10 carries.
On the other end of the ball, Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw for 243 yards and one touchdown.
The Falcons finished with 183 yards in their worst performance of the young season. Ridder was sacked seven times.
“They took us out of our rhythm early and we never got it back,” Atlanta coach Arthur Smith told reporters in postgame comments.
Hopefully, the Falcons can bounce back next week with a win. They will need them if they hope to contend for the SEC South.
Final Word
No matter how many wins or losses, one thing we know for sure is that the Falcons will make things interesting.
