ATLANTA — Colin Kaepernick will appear in Atlanta on Saturday, Sept. 19, for a public event marking the release of his memoir The Perilous Fight.

The former NFL quarterback and activist is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at Morehouse College. The evening is hosted by the Atlanta Black Bookstore Collective — Brave + Kind Books, The Book Worm and The Book Cellar — in partnership with the National Association of Black Bookstores.

The visit is part of a nationwide tour tied to the book, which is due out Sept. 15 from Legacy Lit. In The Perilous Fight, Kaepernick writes about the years that shaped him before the protest that made him one of the most recognizable figures in American sports. The memoir covers his childhood as a Black child adopted into a white family, questions of identity and belonging, his rise as a Super Bowl quarterback, and the experiences that, he says, changed how he understood race, power and injustice.

Kaepernick last played in the NFL in 2016, the same year he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police violence and racial inequality. He has since worked as an activist, philanthropist and publisher. He founded Know Your Rights Camp, which focuses on education and community-building for Black and Brown youth; launched Kaepernick Publishing; and more recently started Lumi, an AI-driven education platform built around storytelling, literacy and student expression.

Organizers framed the Morehouse stop as more than a standard book appearance. The event brings Kaepernick to one of the country’s best-known historically Black colleges for a night centered on books, culture, community and conversation.
