With Thanksgiving here, it’s time to craft your Atlanta travel game plan if you’re headed here for the event-packed weekend. Consider this article a guide to getting to where you need to go this holiday season.

Thanks to Google Maps, we have some traffic and travel data to help us find our way. The site has supplied us with data to get a closer look at when, where and what to visit during Atlanta’s holiday season.

    We’re also going to cover:

How To Avoid The Holiday Crowds

Who likes loud noises and throngs of people? Few adults, that’s who. Because public places are going to transform into bustling spaces full of people, you need to know when to go out and about:

To find this out, Google looked at Popular Times data at key holiday destinations during Thanksgiving week to find when the crowds tended to swell.

Google analyzed when crowds usually grow at five of the largest holiday-heavy places in Atlanta: Bakeries, grocery stores, liquor stores, movie theaters, and shopping centers.

Here’s When To Go Out & About in Atlanta

    • Bakery: The best time to visit a bakery is on Thursday at 9 a.m. (least crowded). The worst time is on Wednesday at noon (most crowded).
    • Grocery store: The best time to visit a grocery store is on Thursday at 7 a.m. The worst time is on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

  • Atlanta Chili Cookoff: Things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Spice Up Your Saturday: Atlanta Chili Cook Off

    4 Min Read

ATLANTA, GA – As the crisp fall air sweeps through metro Atlanta, there’s no better way to warm up than with a steaming bowl of chili – or 50 of them.

The annual Atlanta Chili Cook Off returns today, Saturday, November 22, 2025, transforming Brook Run Park in nearby Dunwoody into a haven for spice lovers, competitive cooks, and families seeking a fun outdoor adventure.

Atlanta Chili Cook Off: It’s Hot

Hosted at the scenic 4770 N. Peachtree Road venue, the event kicks off at noon for VIP ticket holders and opens to general admission crowds at 1 p.m., running until 4 p.m.

Whether you’re here to compete, cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award, or simply indulge in unlimited samples, this chili extravaganza promises a flavorful feast amid the golden hues of autumn foliage.

A Recipe for Fun: What to Expect

Picture this: Over 50 teams – from passionate amateur home cooks to seasoned pros at local restaurants and caterers – simmering pots of their secret recipes under colorful tents.

Attendees can wander the park, spoon in hand, tasting everything from classic Texas-style beef chilis to inventive vegetarian twists, all while soaking in the lively atmosphere.

The competition is fierce, with $5,000 in prizes up for grabs, including top honors for best amateur team, restaurant team, most spirited crew, and the crowd-favorite People’s Choice.

Last year’s winners included a zesty vegan chili from a Midtown-based caterer that took home the top amateur trophy, proving that innovation is as key as heat in this showdown.

For families, it’s a low-key win: Kids 12 and under enter free with a paying adult, and the park’s open spaces make it easy to let little ones run off some energy between bites.

VIP perks elevate the experience with early access, an open bar, a commemorative tasting spoon, and all-you-can-eat chili starting at noon – perfect for those who want to beat the lines and sip a craft brew with their beans.

“We’ve seen families make this a tradition, with kids now old enough to vote on their favorites,” said event organizer Armus Media Group in a statement. “It’s all about community, creativity, and celebrating Atlanta’s love for bold flavors.”

Hot Tickets and How to Join the Heat

Tickets are available on-site or via the official website, with general admission priced at $15 for unlimited chili samples. VIP options start at $30 (advance pricing), offering that extra hour of indulgence. Pro tip: Snag a “ticket for two” deal if you’re bringing a buddy – it’s just $26.50 for pairs entering at 1 p.m.

Team registration may have closed on October 1, but if you’re inspired for next year, mark your calendars. The event is rain or shine, so layer up against that November chill and come hungry.

Why Atlanta Loves This Spicy Tradition

In a city known for its Southern soul food and fusion flair, the Chili Cook Off stands out as a uniquely communal event. It’s more than a tasting – it’s a chance to connect with neighbors, discover hidden gems from local eateries, and maybe even pick up a new recipe or two. As one repeat attendee put it on social media: “Nothing beats chili weather like actual chili – and this fest delivers every time.”

Head to Brook Run Park today from noon to 4 p.m., and turn your Saturday into a spicy memory. For more details, tickets, or sponsor info, visit www.AtlantaChiliCookOff.com.

    Falcons vs. Saints: A History

The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons have been divisional rivals in the NFL’s NFC South since the Saints joined the league in 1967 (with the Falcons entering in 1966). Over 111 total meetings through the 2024 season, the series is one of the closest in NFL history, with the Saints holding a narrow all-time edge.

    Key Highlights

    • Overall Record: Saints lead 56-55. This includes regular-season games only; the teams have not met in the playoffs.
    • Home/Road Splits (approximate, based on historical trends):
      • Saints at home: 34-20
      • Falcons at home: 35-22
    • Recent Trends: The Falcons dominated the 1990s (winning 12 of 16 from 1996-2002), but the Saints have owned the rivalry since 2006, going 20-8 against Atlanta. Notable Saints streaks include 7 straight wins from 2009-2013 and another 6 from 2018-2023.
    • Memorable Games:
      • November 26, 1967: Saints’ inaugural win, a 27-24 thriller in New Orleans—the franchise’s first-ever victory.
      • October 1, 2009: Saints’ 27-13 “Minnie the Moocher” overtime upset at home, fueled by a blocked punt return TD; part of their Super Bowl XLIV run.
      • December 23, 2018: Saints’ 31-10 rout in Atlanta, highlighted by a failed 2-point conversion attempt by the Falcons (later dubbed “28-3(m)” in ironic Falcons fan lore, tying back to their own Super Bowl collapse).
      • September 11, 2022: Falcons’ 27-26 comeback win on the road, snapping an 8-game Saints skid against them—their most recent victory as of 2024.
    • Scoring Averages: Saints average ~23.5 points per game in the series; Falcons ~22.8. High-scoring affairs are common, with 20+ total points in over 70% of meetings.

The rivalry often features intense, physical play reflective of the South’s football culture, with games frequently impacting playoff seeding.

    Final Word

The Falcons have often relied on their offensive firepower, with players like running back Bijan Robinson (1,286 yards, 12 TDs in 2024) and wide receiver Drake London (90 catches, 1,084 yards, 7 TDs in 2024). How will it go this year?

As an additional way, you can watch the Falcons for free (Prime Video) on Thursday Night Football.

It happens once this season, and you can read all about it.

Neighborhood Eats: Best Dining Spots in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward

    5 Min Read

Once an industrial powerhouse dotted with factories and rail lines, Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward (O4W) has transformed into a food lover’s paradise, thanks in large part to the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail weaving through its core.

From the towering Ponce City Market—Atlanta’s answer to New York’s Chelsea Market—to the eclectic Krog Street Market, O4W’s dining scene blends Southern comfort with global flair.

Where To Eat in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward

Whether you’re chasing wood-fired pizzas, inventive tapas, or farm-fresh seafood, these spots capture the ward’s resilient spirit. We’ve rounded up our top picks, based on local buzz, chef-driven menus, and those unforgettable BeltLine strolls post-meal.

Grab your walking shoes—dinner here is as much about the journey as the feast.

Ponce City Market: The Ultimate Food Hall Playground

Things to do in Atlanta on Sunday: Ponce City Market

No O4W visit is complete without a detour to Ponce City Market, the neighborhood’s crown jewel at 675 Ponce de Leon Place NE. This adaptive-reuse masterpiece, housed in a former Sears warehouse, boasts nearly 20 eateries under one roof, making it ideal for indecisive groups or solo adventurers.

For a quick hit of Southern soul, head to H&F Burger Co. for grass-fed beef patties stacked with pimento cheese and bacon jam—crispy-edged perfection that locals swear by for under $15. Craving ramen on a chilly fall evening? Ton Ton Ramen & Yakitori delivers steamy bowls of tonkotsu pork broth with bouncy noodles and charred yakitori skewers, a welcome addition since its 2024 debut.

And don’t skip Biltong Bar, the U.S.’s first spot for South African street food, where air-dried beef strips (biltong) pair with peri-peri chicken and boozy milkshakes.

Pro tip: Hit the rooftop Skyline Park for skyline views and skyline-level people-watching while nursing a craft beer from Hop City.

Marcus Bar & Grille: Elevated Comfort with a Nod to History

Marcus Samuelsson opens restaurant in Atlanta
Photo credit: Marcus Bar & Grille

For a sit-down experience that honors O4W’s roots, Marcus Bar & Grille at 874 Ralph McGill Blvd NE stands out as a beacon of refined Southern fare.

Chef Marcus Samuelsson’s outpost draws from Atlanta’s Black culinary heritage, with wood-fired dishes like smoked pork ribs glazed in peach habanero sauce and cornbread muffins slathered in honey butter.

The space—complete with lush greenery and a gleaming open kitchen—feels like a community hub, especially during weekend jazz brunches. Recent diners rave about the lamb chops, seared to juicy perfection and served with creamy mac ‘n’ cheese that could convert a vegetarian.

It’s upscale without the stuffiness, and with entrees around $30–$45, it’s worth the splurge for date nights or family gatherings.

Superica: Tex-Mex with a BeltLine Twist

Superica opening new restaurant in Atlanta

Overlooking the BeltLine at 1600 North Ave NE, Superica channels Austin’s Ford Fry vibes into Atlanta’s backyard.

This casual powerhouse specializes in wood-grilled tacos—think barbacoa beef tucked into house-made tortillas with fiery salsa verde—and frozen margaritas that go down dangerously easy on a humid Georgia afternoon. The courtyard patio, strung with lights and shaded by oaks, is prime for sunset dinners, where the $16 queso fundido (oozing with chorizo) steals the show. It’s family-friendly yet trendy enough for Instagram, and with gluten-free options galore, it caters to all.

Fun fact: The restaurant’s commitment to local farms means your meal supports Georgia growers, adding a feel-good layer to every bite.

    Staplehouse: Philanthropy on a Plate

Staplehouse restaurant in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward is the best.

Tucked on bustling Edgewood Avenue at 541 Edgewood Ave SE, Staplehouse isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a movement. Co-owned by the late Ryan Hidinger and his wife Jen, this gem donates a portion of proceeds to The Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit aiding food and beverage workers in crisis.

The menu evolves seasonally, but staples like the duck confit poutine (fries smothered in duck fat gravy and cheese curds) and charcuterie boards with house-cured salumi keep locals lining up.

The vibe? Intimate and artsy, with exposed brick walls and a wine list heavy on Georgia varietals. At $25–$40 per entree, it’s a delicious way to dine with purpose—perfect for those seeking more than just a meal.

Buena Vida Tapas Bar: Spanish Sun on the BeltLine

Buena Vida Tapas Bar: Spanish Sun on the BeltLine

For a taste of Iberian sunshine, stroll to Buena Vida Tapas & Sol at 440 Flat Shoals Ave SE, right on the BeltLine.

Owned by Atlanta restaurateurs Adam Berlin and Juan S. Calle, this airy spot serves approachable small plates like patatas bravas (crispy potatoes in smoky aioli) and gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp that could headline any feast). The BeltLine-facing patio buzzes on weekends, with pitchers of sangria flowing alongside $12–$18 plates.

Executive Chef Jaime Guzman’s menu nods to Southern Spain, incorporating local peaches into gazpacho for a peachy twist. It’s romantic, lively, and endlessly shareable—ideal for tapas-hopping with friends.

Ruby Chow’s: Noodling Around Global Flavors

Ruby Chow's is one of the best restaurants in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward.

Rounding out the list, Ruby Chow’s at 469 Flat Shoals Ave SE brings Cantonese cool to O4W with silky hand-pulled noodles in spicy dan dan sauce and crispy Peking duck wraps. The pink-hued interior, adorned with floral installations, feels like a serene escape amid the neighborhood’s energy.

Ruby Chow’s makes the list–> Best Asian Restaurants in Atlanta.

    Yeppa & Co.

Yeppa & Co.is one of the best Atlanta restaurants in Old Fourth Ward.

Nearby, Yeppa & Co. at the Junction Krog District (347 Boulevard SE) pairs vibey Italian with wood-fired pizzas and handmade pastas— the cacio e pepe is a cheesy dream.

Both spots, fresh off 2025 buzz, highlight O4W’s growing Asian and Mediterranean scenes, with dishes under $20 that punch way above their weight.

    Final Word

The Old Fourth Ward’s dining renaissance shows no signs of slowing, fueled by its walkable layout and commitment to diverse voices. As we head into holiday season, these spots offer everything from festive brunches to cozy fire-pit dinners.

Pro tip: Download the Atlanta Streetcar app for easy hops between Ponce and Edgewood—pair it with a post-dinner gelato stroll. What’s your O4W must-try? Drop me a line at cj@atlantafi.com. Hungry yet? The BeltLine awaits.
