  • Ladies-Only Wounded Warriors Dance At Atlanta Yoga Class

    2 Min Read

They came, they saw, they twirled. They even meditated.

Injured veterans and some of their family members recently came together to participate in a Wounded Warrior Project®(WWP) ladies-only yoga dance class in Atlanta. The class introduced many of the participants to Vinyasa yoga, which combines elements of power yoga, fitness, dance, and meditation.

Wounded Warriors Project Teams Up With Atlanta Yoga Class

“I was always interested in taking yoga, but the idea of adding dance music seemed more exciting,” said Army veteran Beverly Townes from Snellville, Georgia. “I thoroughly enjoyed the event even though some of the moves were a little challenging, but the staff provided alternate moves and positions for those of us who were unable to do the regular positions.”

The Wounded Warrior Project for years has been dedicated to helping U.S. servicemen and women feel part of the American community again by re-acclimating them to the environment through social programs, support groups, activities and just plain ‘ol fun.

Activities like yoga can also help many of the veterans to utilize coping skills and deal with stress and emotional issues that come from combat.

“Wounded Warrior Project is a great organization that’s been helpful to me and many others,” Beverly said. “It provides services that would not otherwise be available to service members because of their circumstances. I appreciate everything the organization is doing for all soldiers.”

  • Meet Author Lauren Groff At Atlanta Book Signing

    2 Min Read

Celebrated author Lauren Groff is coming to the ATL! Groff, a New York Times bestselling author of “Fates and Furies” is back with a new title.

She will promote her new book “Florida” at a ticketed event Friday, June 8, 218 in the city. Things get started at 7 p.m.

Come Hang Out With Author Lauren Groff In Atlanta

“Florida” will be an array of stories about the author’s home state. She will treat a live audience at the lovely Midtown Atlanta theater, SCADshow. A book signing of a first edition copy of “Florida” will follow.

A Cappella Books is the official bookseller for this event.

    ABOUT THE BOOK

In her vigorous and moving new book, Lauren Groff brings her electric storytelling and intelligence to a world in which storms, snakes, and sinkholes lurk at the edge of everyday life, but the greater threats and mysteries are of a human, emotional, and psychological nature. Among those navigating it all are a resourceful pair of abandoned sisters; a lonely boy, grown up; a restless, childless couple, a searching, homeless woman; and an unforgettable, recurring character — a steely and conflicted wife and mother.

The stories in this collection span characters, towns, decades, even centuries, but Florida — its landscape, climate, history, and state of mind — becomes its gravitational center: an energy, a mood, as much as a place of residence. Groff transports the reader, then jolts us alert with a crackle of wit, a wave of sadness, a flash of cruelty, as she writes about loneliness, rage, family, and the passage of time. With shocking accuracy and effect, she pinpoints the moments and decisions and connections behind human pleasure and pain, hope and despair, love and fury — the moments that make us alive. Startling, precise, and affecting, Florida is a magnificent achievement.

A Cappella Books is the official bookseller for this event.
