3-Story Immersive Entertainment Complex Coming To Centennial Yards

    5 Min Read

Centennial Yards will be the site of a three-story entertainment complex which will double as a live sports and concert venue, AtlantaFi.com has learned.

The 70,000-square-foot development will be built by Cosm, a leading immersive technology, media, and entertainment company that opened a similar space in Los Angeles this past June.

The firm aims to deliver live sports and experiential entertainment in “Shared Reality,” which takes advantage of augmented, virtual and mixed reality.

“The project we’re building is a sports-adjacent, entertainment district,” Centennial Yards Company president Brian McGowan said. “When we learned about the [Cosm] concept — this cool experiential entertainment, shared reality type of sports bar — we were like, ‘Oh my God, this is perfect for us.’”

As part of the Sports and Entertainment District at Centennial Yards. Cosm is the linchpin of Centennial Yards’ next phase of development, which will bring approximately 470,000 square feet of entertainment, retail and restaurant space, including a flagship hotel, to a 7.5-acre site adjacent to the Atlanta Hawks’ State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium — home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United—as well as the Five Points MARTA station connecting the site with the rest of the city.

“Cosm’s experience is unparalleled, using its Shared Reality technology to provide guests with front-row access to global events from Downtown Atlanta at Centennial Yards,” McGowan said in a press release. “With existing, world-class sports venues and the addition of Cosm, we believe Centennial Yards will become the center of gravity for entertainment in Atlanta, connecting people of all ages with an incredible combination of sporting events, music, bars, restaurants and retail.”

“Atlanta is a passionate sports town with a proud history of hosting the world’s biggest events, including the Olympics, Super Bowls, CFP National Championships, NCAA March Madness, FIFA World Cup, and more,” said Jeb Terry, CEO and President at Cosm. “In fact, one of my favorite memories is winning the 2001 Peach Bowl in the Georgia Dome. Now, over 20 years later, the Cosm at Centennial Yards is the perfect complement to the State Farm Arena, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and Atlanta Convention Center to help make Centennial Yards the Sports and Entertainment capital of the South, and we are thrilled to work with CIM Group to make Atlanta our third location and bring Shared Reality to the East Coast.”

Cosm’s third venue at Centennial Yards will encompass 70,000 square feet and feature the company’s proprietary technology throughout, including an 87-foot diameter 12K+ LED dome.

Working with award-winning architecture firm Gensler, the venue will expand on the foundational design of Cosm’s first and second venues in Los Angeles and Dallas, respectively, and ensure its values and iconic features are embodied while still incorporating unique characteristics that reflect Centennial Yards and the Atlanta community at large.

The company’s slate of live sports offerings continues to expand through official partnerships with ESPN, the NBA, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, FOX Sports, the UFC and more, which will allow guests to experience live Shared Reality productions of the biggest sports events in the world.

In addition to live sports, Cosm’s programming will also highlight Cirque du Soleil’s timeless production “O” and immersive art experiences from members of the Cosm Studios Creator Program, including award-winning new media artist Nancy Baker Cahill; filmmaker, director, and co-founder of Planetary Collective Guy Reid; renowned DJ and artist Chris Holmes; and acclaimed composer and new media artist Ricardo Romaneiro.

“At Centennial Yards, we have the opportunity to reshape a major area of Atlanta as a walkable and appealing destination for residents and visitors, and key to that effort is bringing unique and engaging businesses such as Cosm that attract people to the district,” said Shaul Kuba, Co-Founder and Principal, CIM Group.

    Who Owns Centennial Yards?

The Centennial Yards Company serves as the master developer of Centennial Yards and consists of a partnership between an affiliate of CIM Group, which is co-founded by Richard Ressler, and a group led by Hawks owner Tony Ressler, his brother.

    ‘The Gulch’ No More

Development at Centennial Yards is already well underway, with the construction of a 19-story boutique hotel and 19-story residential tower, and additional retail and residential groundbreakings commencing later this year.

Centennial Yards is a transformative project for Atlanta and one of the largest private developments in the United States, reshaping an important but underutilized portion of the city’s Downtown formerly known as “The Gulch” into a dynamic and active 24/7 community.

With a master site plan designed by a global team, the 50-acre Centennial Yards development will also feature the creation of new city blocks, public open space and up to 12 million square feet of new modern retail, hotel and residential buildings, and world-class sports and entertainment venues.

    Final Word

Downtown Atlanta is transforming, but so is much of the city. The best restaurants on the Beltline all have excellent customer service and food. What separates them from many of the other spots is that they’re on the urban playground called the Beltline.

    3 Min Read

Chick-fil-A is days away from opening its first two-story restaurant in metro Atlanta. The building is in Stockbridge, Georgia will open later in August.

The company recently made the announcement last year as part of its aggressive growth plans it will embark on over the years ahead.

Chick-fil-A To Build Two-Story Restaurant In Atlanta Area

The company says the eatery’s design will aid quicker ordering and faster convenience for customers.

“Understanding this desire for convenience, the locations for these tests were intentionally selected with the customers in mind, giving them more control over their desired experience and cutting down wait-time,” Khalilah Cooper, Chick-fil-A’s executive director of restaurant design, was quoted as saying in a news release.

Atlanta location will be part of two new restaurant concepts, with the other one being in New York City. The eateries will feature four dedicated Mobile Thru lanes, that have help ease wait times and make ordering easier, the company said.

Encouraged by the way the eatery’s customer service flourished during the COVID-era, the company is leaning into new digital formats to make interactions between the customer and Team Members as seamless as possible.

“Digital orders make up more than half of total sales in some markets – and growing – so we know our customers have an appetite for convenience,” Khalilah Cooper, executive director, restaurant design, said in a press release.

In addition to the new Mobile Thru lanes, the new restaurant concept will have the following features.

    • A kitchen above the drive-thru lanes.
    • Orders delivered directly to the customer in a space protected by the upper level.
    • A walk-up concept designed for urban areas with heavy foot traffic.
    • Ability to serve guests quickly who order ahead of time in the Chick-fil-A App.

“Understanding this desire for convenience, the locations for these tests were intentionally selected with the customers in mind, giving them more control over their desired experience and cutting down wait-time, while continuing to provide genuine hospitality and care to every guest,’ she said.

    Final Word

Chick-fil-A has not elaborated on when exactly these new concepts will be built, but you can bet they will be constructed quickly as has been the restaurant’s M.O. in recent years.

  • Che Butter Jonez is moving to Brookhaven

Che Butter Jonez Relocating To Brookhaven

    5 Min Read

Che Butter Jonez, the southside Atlanta restaurant known for its delicious sandwiches and breakfast foods, is moving its flagship location to Brookhaven.

After some successful years as a food truck, Malik Rhasaan and Detric Fox-Quinlan, the husband-and-wife team behind the popular eatery, launched their venture in 2021 at a Chevron station plaza on Cleveland Avenue. It quickly became one of the best black-owned restaurant in Atlanta. However, persistent issues such as public disturbances and property management challenges have made it difficult to continue operating there.

Che Butter Jonez Relocating To Brookhaven: CheHaven

The couple is also preparing to expand while awaiting the completion of Butter & Scotch, a Queens-inspired restaurant set to open in the Origin Hotel Atlanta downtown.

On June 21, Rhasaan shared on Instagram: “We’re likely going to have to close the Cleveland Avenue location. Too often, I find myself confronting grown men and women about activities they know are inappropriate … I can’t leave my establishment to handle other business because I can’t hire anyone to deal with the daily chaos … Local politicians won’t help, other tenants are indifferent or part of the problem, and the landlord may as well not exist … We’re currently searching for a new space for Che Butter Jonez. We’d love to stay in the area, but staying here isn’t an option.”

This post, prompted by issues like loitering and public urination, attracted new opportunities for the restaurant.

Photo Che Butter Jonez / Instagram

One promising option is a 3,000-square-foot space in Brookhaven at 1602 Lavista Road, affectionately referred to as “CheHaven.”

On June 26, Che Butter Jonez announced its move on Instagram: “We’re late, but we’re also moving. It is with sadness that we prepare to leave our flagship brick-n-mortar location. We didn’t try. We succeeded. Because we created the kind of community in these small walls that people always say they wish to experience. We’re proud of that, but we’re headed in a direction that brings about opportunities we could have never imagined, so we live the dream we dare to dream! Thank you all so much. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you all, and those of us who can’t get to us often, we will let you know how much longer you guys have us here at your spot, but just know we have some cool things planned, and we’re excited! Fk it, be excited with us! We gonna have a great time! More news to come!”

Photo Che Butter Jonez / Instagram

Photo Che Butter Jonez / Instagram

Rhasaan expressed mixed feelings about the move, noting, “I don’t want to go at all. We live in the neighborhood, but it’s hard to get staff because of the reputation of Cleveland Avenue. I work every day. It’s hard to give someone the burden to have to be security on top of their job.”

    Where Is CheHaven Located?

Located at 1602 Lavista Road NE, in the former Coffee Bar Atlanta space, the new 2,954-square-foot Che Butter Jonez will more than double the size of the Cleveland Avenue location and accommodate five times the number of people. Here’s a map to help you find it.

The new Brookhaven location will open in the fall, offering a much larger space with a capacity of 81, compared to the current 15. The restaurant will operate six days a week, up from the current three.

The restaurant will feature large garage-style windows, a stage at the front, and décor similar to the original, with bright and inviting colors and wood elements.

The expanded menu will include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, with new items like salmon and shrimp bowls, along with favorites like the lamb burger and pastrami-topped “Patti LaBelle” patty melt. Bodega-style sandwiches will be available for breakfast, and the restaurant will offer craft soda, bottled beer and wine, and a small grocery area with staples and grab-and-go items. Events like Singo (singing BINGO) and Wednesday night fish and spaghetti will continue.

The Cleveland Avenue location will remain open for the time being, though its future is uncertain.

Rhasaan and Fox-Quinlan started Che Butter Jonez as a food truck in 2018. Named after Rhasaan’s online alias, the truck gained popularity with its tagline, “I cook better than your muva!” and rotating dishes like the lamb burger and the Bodega breakfast sandwich.

    Final Word

The couple’s first brick-and-mortar location location opened in June 2021 at 757 Cleveland Ave., just minutes from their home. They are also working on an upscale restaurant and bar called Butter + Scotch, slated to open in a hotel on Mitchell Street later this year.

Cool events takes place every year when it’s hot. And that’s when Atlanta is at its best. Every Atlanta weekend has something cool to do. The city has a thriving cultural, food, sports and music scene, with venues like the Tabernacle and the Fox Theatre hosting concerts and shows throughout the year.
