Red Lobster Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

    2 Min Read

The Red Lobster restaurant chain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the company announced on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

The restaurant intends to use the bankruptcy not to close down for good, but rather, to drive operational improvements, simplify the business through a reduction in locations, and pursue a sale of substantially all of its assets as a going concern, according to a press release.

The filing, done with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, essentially means that Red Lobster will sell its business to an entity formed and controlled by its existing term lenders.

Will Reb Lobster Restaurants Close Down?

Red Lobster’s restaurants will remain open and operating as usual during the Chapter 11 process. The Company has been working with vendors to ensure that operations are unaffected and has received a $100 million debtor-in-possession (“DIP”) financing commitment from its existing lenders.

With that said, some Red Lobsters have shuttered around Atlanta as of late. Read our list of Red Lobster closures.

“This restructuring is the best path forward for Red Lobster. It allows us to address several financial and operational challenges and emerge stronger and re-focused on our growth,” Jonathan Tibus, the Company’s CEO, said in a statement. “The support we’ve received from our lenders and vendors will help ensure that we can complete the sale process quickly and efficiently while remaining focused on our employees and guests.”

  • Will Chili’s Close Down In Atlanta?

    2 Min Read

With the recent announcement that Chili’s is closing down in several U.S. cities, it stands to reason that there may be some trepidation among Atlanta foodies as to whether the popular restaurant will remain open in the metro area.

If you recall, some local Chili’s restaurants have already closed their doors around Atlanta.

    • In 2019, the Chili’s at Lindbergh at 2440 Piedmont Rd in Buckhead closed for good.
    • In June 2023, the Chili’s at 3625 Dallas Highway in West Cobb shut down.
    • In August 2023, Chili’s at 4784 Ashford Dunwoody Road closed its doors.

Will Chili’s In Atlanta Remain Open?

It’s too early to tell whether any other Chili’s locations in Atlanta will close permanently, but with the recent reductions in business, it makes sense that more closures are on the way. Red Lobster is also closing some Atlanta-area locations.

With nearly 50 locations, Chili’s had its largest presence in Atlanta just two years ago.

Where Is Chili’s Bar & Grill Located in Atlanta?

Signia by Hilton Opens Italian Restaurant Capolinea in Atlanta

    3 Min Read

When Signia by Hilton Atlanta opened in January, local foodies waited patiently for the grand opening of Capolinea, its signature Italian-American fine dining restaurant.

I recently visited Capolinea, but only had a drink (I ate at its sister restaurant Nest). I can’t wait to try the menu.

    Now Serving Atlanta Diners: Capolinea

Using high-quality ingredients in Georgia, Capolinea offers diners an inspired taste of Italy. A lot has gone into the menu at Capolinea, including research trips by Chef Jeuel Ortiz, who visited farms throughout the state as well as traveled to several cities in Northern Italy including Bologna, Florence and San Marino.

“Capolinea adds a new dimension to our hotel, providing guests with a sophisticated fine dining experience,” said Teri Agosta, general manager, Signia by Hilton Atlanta. “Chef Jeuel Ortiz has carefully crafted an incredible menu for our guests. Utilizing locally sourced ingredients and pulling inspiration from his global experiences, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this elevated dining option to downtown Atlanta. With a dynamic food and beverage team in place, we’re confident this restaurant will become one of the most sought-after culinary destinations within the city.”

  • Nathan Wade interview

Nathan Wade Speaks Out, Says Workplace Romance ‘As American As Apple Pie’

    2 Min Read

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, former Fulton County prosecutor Nathan Wade speaks out for the first time since being ousted in the Trump election interference case.

In the interview, Wade says that workplace relationships are “as American as apple pie.”

Wade was chosen by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to help prosecute Trump and 19 co-defendants. After much scrutiny and allegations of impropriety from opposed Republicans, Willis and Wade admitted to having a romantic relationship.

Wade, who has worked on divorce and other civil cases in Atlanta for years, said that when he was brought on the Trump case and began to work side by side with Willis in her office, their colleague-to-colleague friendship turned into something more.

“It happens to everyone. It happened to the two of us,” he told ABC.

After the much publicized hearing to determine whether Willis’ office would be removed from the case, the judge ruled that their relationship was not illegal.

As a compromise, the judge ruled that if Wade left the case, the case could go forward in Fulton County. Wade chose to step aside from the case.

When asked whether he regretted the relationship, Wade said, “I hate that my personal life has begun to overshadow the true issues in the case,” he said.

For her part, Willis had been unapologetic about the hubris and continues to press forward in her prosecution of Trump, despite criticism and even death threats.

Speaking to a church in January, Willis said that she is far from perfect.
““You cannot expect black women to be perfect. We need to be allowed to stumble. We need grace. We are all sinners,” she said.

“We need your prayers, We need to be allowed to stumble. We need grace. With that type of support, we will move mountains and do Jesus’s will — stumbling all of the way!”

  • How to save money and still have a life

15 Ways To Save Money On Daily Expenses And Still Live Well

    6 Min Read

Is your budget starting to tighten? You’re not alone. To counter that, it may be time to look at your daily expenses and see where you can cut back.

Your station in life or how high your income is has little to do with how much you can save. It has to do with the specific strategies you put in place.

How To Save Money On A Low Income

You don’t have to make a lot of money to save your cash. The key is to be frugal and smart with your money.

First of all, you should jot down all your expenses. The reason why it’s important is because you’d be surprised to learn how much you’re actually spending if you just write it out.

    1. Create An Emergency Fund

One of the most important ways to save cash is to take your leftover cash and create an emergency fund. It doesn’t have to be a lot of money.

If you’re able to stash away $20 a week or even a month, it will add up in one year.

Here’s how to save $300 really fast.

    2. Reduce Your Cell Phone Data Plan

Let’s face it, you’ve got Wi-Fi at home as well as in the office. In fact, the average cell phone user only uses 1.6 gigabytes a month, by some estimates.
So you likely could cut your phone’s data plan to bare bones without much impact.

If you’re paying for gobs of data with AT&T or Verizon, you monthly bill is likely $75-$100.

Why not check out one of those pre-paid economy plans that give you unlimited data for $45. Two plans that come to mind are Simple Mobile (runs on T-Mobile’s network) and Straight Talk. See more on saving on phone costs.

    3. Eat What’s In Your Fridge

Most U.S. consumers spend $10 a day on food, which is generous for three meals a day — but what if you could cut that in half?
Designate two days a week that you will eat leftovers either for lunch or dinner.

Instead of paying $50 a day for food, save $25 of that amount.

    4. Cancel Old Subscriptions

Sometimes your subscriptions get stale, meaning you don’t use them anymore or as much. That’s why you should do a subscription audit and cancel old ones.

Many people today have a combination of streaming services, which may equal or exceed what they were paying for cable TV.

    5. Use Digital Or Print Coupons

The next time you see the crazy coupon lady on aisle 7, ask if she’ll teach you a thing or two. Coupons are the easiest way to save money at the grocery store.

You can clip coupons from sales flyers in the store or go online; either way you save money.

Here’s how to save with coupons.

    6. Buy In Bulk

Believe it or not if you buy in bulk, you’ll get a better price than if you bought food wrapped individually.

That means places like Sam’s and Costco will get your grocery dollars, but it’ll be worth it.

    7. Be Flexible With Your Travel Dates

When it comes to saving money on travel, knowing when and the best time to book your trip is half the battle.

Travel experts say that if you book a flight between 21 and 30 days out, you should be able to get a deal.

But no matter what, it pays to be flexible with your travel dates. Use Google Flights to find wiggle room in the days you plan to travel. You’ll be thankful for the money you save.

    8. Fly On A Budget Airline

If you really want to just get there, avoid the United and Deltas of the world by flying on a budget airline. You can save up to 60% on your airfare by choosing low-cost airlines that fly in smaller or regional airports.

Don’t know of any budget airlines? Check out WhichBudget.com to research some carriers.

Here are some of the best budget airlines:

    9. Open A Savings Account

One of the most formal ways to put money away is to open a savings account. What’s so attractive about opening a savings account is that you can really gain some ground if your APR is low.

To open a savings account, visit your local bank or credit union.

    10 Set A Savings Goal

It would be foolish to think about saving money without a goal in mind. Look at your income and decide how much money you can save each week and each month.

If you find that your savings goal is too ambitious, adjust it downward. If you find that it’s too easy, raise it a bit.

    11. Don’t Spend Extra Money

If you’ve gotten a bonus at work, income tax refund or stimulus money, don’t spend it. Put that money away for a rainy day. If you have to put it in the bank or under the mattress, do that.

    12. Open A 401(K)

If you can open a 401(K) retirement plan with your employer, please do so. The money is tax-free and can be matched by your employer up to a percentage.

If you’ve worked at a job that matches your 401(K) for years, you can earn a pretty penny.

    Here’s what to know about a 401(k).

    13. Pay Off Your Credit Cards In Full

If you happen to swipe your credit cards often, that’s OK. The key is to pay off your credit cards at the end of every month.

Not only does paying off your credit cards build your credit, but it means you pay zero interest and can save that money.

    14. Designate A ‘No Spend’ Day

Sometimes you have to spend money, but you may find that some days you can go without using your wallet. These “no spend” days can really allow you to save money if they’re done on a regular basis.

    15. Turn Off Your AC Or Heat

If the weather is nice, you may be able to turn off your air conditioner or heat. This practice to keep the money you make in your own pocket instead of giving it to the energy company.

    Last Words

Saving money may seem like a lot of small steps, but it really is about adopting a lifestyle. Some of the things you can do to pull back your expenses will change your habits for good.

Not only will this help your finances, but it can lead to some real healthy lifestyle changes that benefit you.

If saving money is something you’re serious about, AtlantaFi.com has a lot of resources to help you.
