  • Memorial Drive Greenway project in Atlanta

Design Of Memorial Drive Greenway Project Gets Underway in Atlanta

    3 Min Read

Memorial Drive in Atlanta is getting a facelift which promises to add greenspace to one of the city’s most popular corridors.

The City of Atlanta’s Department of Parks and Recreation has launched the design phase of the Memorial Drive Greenway, transforming underutilized land into a vibrant linear park from Oakland Cemetery to Downtown’s edge.

Led by Atlanta-based engineering firm Pond & Company, the project builds on the 2016 Memorial Drive Vision Plan, engaging the community to shape a sustainable, accessible greenspace.

What Is the Memorial Drive Greenway?

The Memorial Drive Greenway aims to revitalize a half-mile corridor between Memorial Drive SE and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE, covering 8.5 acres.

Phase One includes schematic design for the entire park and full design, permitting, and construction for one of seven blocks. Sustainable features like stormwater management and native plantings will enhance biodiversity and public health.

Read the Memorial Drive Greenway Plan.

Mayor Andre Dickens emphasized the project’s alignment with Atlanta’s focus on sustainability and equitable access to greenspace, supporting his vision of a family-friendly city.

“Our Administration’s pillar of making Atlanta a City Built for the Future has always kept preservation and environmental sustainability at the forefront of our city’s growth and progress—which is why I created the first Greenspace Advisory Council,” Dickens said in a statement. “Every neighborhood deserves access to quality parks and greenspace, and I am eager to see this project through.”

Brent Beatty of The Friends of Memorial Drive Greenway credited community collaboration and leadership for advancing this vision.

“The long-awaited development of Memorial Drive Greenway is a powerful example of what’s possible when a community comes together with a shared vision. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of our dedicated team of volunteers and stakeholders, the support of our Parks Department, the Dickens Administration and the leadership of Councilmember Bakhtiari, whose commitment helped turn this vision into reality. I’m eager to collaborate with this team to deliver a vibrant green space that will serve as a prominent corridor for the surrounding neighborhoods and historical places,” said Beatty.

The Greenway will expand access to quality parks, promoting healthier, connected communities. While the original plan included a future “cap park” over the Downtown Connector, Phase One prioritizes immediate progress.

As of August 2025, community engagement has begun as residents are invited to help shape the Greenway’s design and programming.

    Final Word

The Memorial Drive Greenway is underway with a charge to transform the corridor into a beautiful park.

Grady Smith of Pond & Company underscored the project’s role in creating a lasting, community-driven legacy for East Atlanta, blending sustainability and vibrant public space.

  • How To Find Cheap Flights Out Of Atlanta - The busiest airport in the world is Hartsfield Jackson

What To Know Before You Fly Out Of Atlanta

    6 Min Read

Navigating Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport requires preparation due to its size and high traffic. Arrive early, use the Plane Train, check flight status, and leverage apps for real-time updates.

In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about flying out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport.

    1. Arrive Early

Timing: Arrive 2-3 hours before your flight, especially during peak travel times or holidays. ATL is large, and navigating security lines, parking, and train transfers can take time.

    • Domestic Flights: Arrive at least 2 hours before departure. If checking bags, aim for 2.5 hours.
    • International Flights: Arrive 3 hours prior to account for customs, immigration, and additional security checks.
    • Peak Times: Expect longer lines during early mornings (5 AM–9 AM), evenings (4 PM–7 PM), weekends, and holidays. Add an extra 30 minutes during these periods.

Tip: Check real-time security wait times using the MyTSA app or ATL’s official website (atl.com) to plan your arrival

    2. Parking Options

ATL offers a variety of parking options, including on-site hourly and daily lots, economy lots, and ParkATL Reserve for guaranteed spaces. Off-site parking lots often provide shuttles to the terminal and can be more cost-effective.

    • On-Site Parking: Options include hourly ($36/day), daily, economy, and ParkATL Reserve for guaranteed spots. Rates range from $14/day (Park-Ride) to $36/day (hourly lots).
    • Off-Site Parking: Cheaper alternatives like PreFlight Airport Parking offer shuttles to terminals. Ideal for long-term parking.
    • Handicap Parking: Available near elevators and shuttle stops in all lots.

Tip: Check parking availability on ATL’s website and consider off-site lots for cost savings.

    3. Security Checkpoints

ATL has multiple TSA checkpoints spread across Terminals North and South. Check which checkpoint is best for your airline. Consider using TSA PreCheck or CLEAR to expedite the process.

Read up on TSA wait times.

    • Check-In: Use online check-in (24 hours prior) or self-service kiosks to save time. Have your ID and boarding pass ready.
    • Security Checkpoints: Located in both Domestic (North/South) and International Terminals. Peak times can see waits of 45+ minutes.
    • TSA PreCheck/CLEAR: Enroll to expedite security. International Terminal security may be less crowded for domestic flights; take the Plane Train to your concourse.
    • TSA Guidelines: Follow the 3-1-1 rule for liquids (3.4 oz or less in a quart-sized bag). Avoid prohibited items like sharp objects or fireworks.

Tip: Place large electronics (e.g., laptops) in a separate bin for screening. Pack carry-ons in layers for easier inspection.

    4. Transportation To and Between Terminals

The Plane Train runs underground between all concourses and terminals. It’s the fastest way to move through the airport. Walking is also an option, as the concourses are connected by underground walkways.

    • MARTA (Public Transit): The Red and Gold lines connect directly to the Domestic Terminal’s Airport station. Cost: ~$2.50/ride. Trains run every 10–20 minutes, taking ~20 minutes to downtown Atlanta.

    • Taxis: Available at both terminals with flat rates to downtown (~$30). No pre-booking needed.
    • Airport Shuttles: Shared shuttles (e.g., Atlanta Airport Shuttle) cost $16–$35 per person. Book in advance for efficiency.
    • Driving: Budget extra time for traffic on I-75, I-85, or I-285, especially during weekday mornings or Friday afternoons.

Tip: If driving, use cell phone waiting areas for free pick-up/drop-off to avoid circling.

    5. Dining and Shopping

ATL boasts a wide range of dining options, from local favorites like Chick-fil-A and Paschal’s to upscale restaurants. Duty-free shops, boutiques, and convenience stores are located in all concourses.

    • Local Favorites: Chick-fil-A, Paschal’s (soul food), Chicken + Beer (Concourse D).
    • National Chains: Shake Shack, Starbucks, Chipotle, P.F. Chang’s.

Read our guide on where to eat at the Atlanta airport.

    6. Wi-Fi and Amenities

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. Travelers can also take advantage of amenities such as nursing pods, relaxation areas, and the Delta Sky Club lounges if eligible.

    • Wi-Fi: Free “ATL Free Wi-Fi” is available, but it’s unsecured—avoid sensitive transactions without two-step authentication.
    • Lounges: Delta Sky Club (Concourses A, B, C, D, E, F), American, United, Centurion Lounge, and The Club at ATL (Priority Pass).
    • Special Services: Nursing pods, family restrooms, sensory room (Concourse F, code from Delta check-in), pet relief areas, and wheelchair assistance (contact your airline).
    • Charging Stations: Free stations are scattered throughout, but outlets may be limited near some gates. Bring a portable charger.

    7. Check Flight Status

Use the airport’s official app or website to track your flight’s status, gate changes, or delays. Alerts can help you adjust your timing if needed.

    8. Transportation to/from the Airport

Options include MARTA trains, ride-sharing services, taxis, and shuttles. MARTA’s Red and Gold lines connect directly to the Domestic Terminal, making it a convenient and affordable option.

    Public Transit (MARTA)

    • Details: MARTA trains are a quick and cost-effective way to travel between the airport and Atlanta. The Red and Gold lines connect the airport directly to downtown and other areas.
    • Cost: $2.50 per ride, with discounts for frequent riders or those with Breeze cards.
    • Location: The MARTA station is inside the Domestic Terminal, near baggage claim.
    • Timing: Trains run every 10-20 minutes, depending on the time of day.

    Ride-Sharing Services

    • Services: Lyft, Uber, and other rideshare companies operate at ATL.
    • Pick-Up Zones: Rideshare pickups are in designated areas at both Domestic and International Terminals. Follow signs or use the app for directions.

    Taxis

    • Availability: Taxi stands are located outside both terminals.
    • Flat Rates: Some trips, such as to downtown Atlanta, may have flat rates (e.g., ~$30).

Van Bursts into Flames at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

    3 Min Read

A dramatic scene unfolded at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday, August 14, 2025, when a van erupted in flames, sending plumes of thick black smoke into the sky and prompting a swift response from emergency services.

The incident, captured on video, occurred in a parking area near the airport’s terminals, causing alarm among travelers and airport staff but resulting in no reported injuries.

The video footage, which has circulated widely online, shows the van engulfed in intense flames, with firefighters working diligently to extinguish the blaze.

Watch video as flames engulf a van at the Atlanta airport:

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities yet to release an official statement on what sparked the incident. Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have experienced a mechanical failure or an issue with its fuel system, though no definitive cause has been confirmed.

Emergency responders, including airport fire crews and local law enforcement, were quick to secure the area, ensuring the safety of passengers and airport personnel. The blaze was contained before it could spread to other vehicles or structures, and airport operations were not significantly disrupted, according to a spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson.

Witnesses described a chaotic but controlled response. “I was walking to my car when I saw this huge cloud of smoke,” said Maria Thompson, a traveler who recorded part of the incident on her phone. “It was scary, but the firefighters got there so fast and had it under control. I’m just glad no one was hurt.”

The incident comes amid a busy travel period at Hartsfield-Jackson, one of the world’s busiest airports. Authorities have assured the public that safety protocols were followed and that there is no ongoing threat.

The charred remains of the van have been removed from the scene, and investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances of the fire. This event follows other recent incidents at the airport, including a smoke-related evacuation of a Delta flight earlier this year, highlighting the challenges of maintaining safety in such a high-traffic environment.

Airport officials emphasized their commitment to passenger safety and stated that they are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

By planning ahead and familiarizing yourself with the airport’s layout and services, you can make your travel experience out of ATL smooth and stress-free.

    Magic City: A History

Magic City, an iconic strip club in Atlanta, was founded in 1985 by Michael “Magic” Barney, a New Jersey native who moved to Atlanta after graduating from Duke University with a history degree in 1978. Initially working as a toner cartridge salesman, Barney earned the nickname “Magic” due to his sales prowess.

His frequent visits to local gentlemen’s clubs, like the Foxy Lady Lounge, inspired him to create a better version of the strip club experience, focusing on higher-quality dancers, customer service, and professionalism.Barney leased a former print shop at 241 Forsyth Street in south downtown Atlanta for $10,000 a month, launching Magic City on October 2, 1985, with just one dancer.

He took on multiple roles—cook, DJ, and security—while enforcing strict standards for his staff. The club struggled initially but gained traction by the late 1980s, particularly after high-profile athletes like Deion Sanders and Dominique Wilkins became regulars, drawing larger crowds and elevating its status.

Barney’s hands-on approach and connections with celebrities helped transform Magic City from a modest operation into a cultural phenomenon.

By the early 1990s, the club became a hub for Atlanta’s burgeoning hip-hop scene, with DJs like DC the Brain Supreme (of Tag Team) testing tracks like “Whoomp! (There It Is)” at the club, cementing its role as a music industry tastemaker.

Magic City’s influence grew as it attracted artists like OutKast, Future, and Migos, becoming a launchpad for Southern rap and trap music. Its reputation as a cultural institution was further solidified by celebrity patronage from figures like 2Pac, Biggie, and Drake, and its ability to survive challenges like arson, Barney’s legal troubles, and the 2020 pandemic.

Porsha Williams’ $7.3M Mansion at Risk Over Ex-Husband’s $200K Debt

      3 Min Read

Reality TV star Porsha Williams is facing a new legal battle over her $7.3 million Georgia mansion, awarded to her in her high-profile divorce from Nigerian businessman Simon Guobadia.

The sprawling 15,284-square-foot Sandy Springs estate, where Williams and her daughter Pilar reside, has been hit with a lien due to Guobadia’s failure to pay a $205,884.25 debt owed to his divorce attorney, Onyema Farrey, according to court documents obtained by news outlets.

The lien, filed on June 10, 2025, threatens the Mediterranean-style mansion, which boasts five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a resort-style pool, and a chef’s kitchen with Sub-Zero appliances.

Williams, 44, was granted exclusive use of the property in March 2024 following her divorce filing in February of that year, after just 15 months of marriage. The court upheld the couple’s prenuptial agreement, awarding Williams the home, a 2021 Rolls-Royce, $40,000 monthly alimony for 14 months, and $224,000 in legal fees.

Williams’ mother is staying in her other home in Duluth, but the drama has deeply affected the reality star.

However, Guobadia, 61, whose reported net worth exceeds $40 million, has yet to settle the six-figure debt to his attorney, sparking concerns about potential foreclosure if the issue remains unresolved. Williams now faces the challenge of refinancing the mortgage within 36 months to remove Guobadia’s name or selling the property and splitting the equity, per the divorce agreement.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s legal woes have fueled online buzz, with fans on social media expressing shock and support.

One user posted, “Porsha Williams’ mansion, received in her divorce from Simon Guobadia, faces a lien and potential seizure due to his $200,000 unpaid divorce lawyer debt. Guobadia’s net worth exceeds $40 million.” Others speculate that Williams may need to sell her Duluth home, listed for $1.85 million, to cover costs if the debt lingers.

Guobadia’s financial troubles come amid his deportation to Nigeria in June 2025 over immigration issues, including overstaying visas and past fraud allegations. He claimed his company, Simcol, lost $296 million in value following his ICE detention, but the court dismissed this as “lacking credibility,” noting he successfully ran the business internationally before.

Williams, who rejoined RHOA for its 16th season, has remained resilient, filming at the mansion despite Guobadia’s objections. In a recent episode, she cited “fear of foreclosure” as a motivator for her divorce, though Guobadia claims he continues to cover the mortgage.

Her February 2024 Lis Pendens filing further secured her property rights, signaling her determination to protect her home.

The ongoing saga has drawn comparisons to other celebrity divorce battles, with legal experts suggesting mediation could resolve the lien issue. “The debt is a fraction of Guobadia’s wealth, so it’s surprising it hasn’t been settled,” said Atlanta-based attorney Laura Simmons. “Williams’ focus on stability for her daughter keeps her fighting, but the clock is ticking.”

As the drama unfolds, fans and RHOA cameras continue to watch closely, awaiting the fate of Williams’ hard-won mansion.
