“It is not dangerous,” she was quoted as saying. “We just do not have an understanding as to what the long term impact of ketosis is on one’s long-term health,” Lowe said. “For certain populations—in particular those with intractable epilepsy, who are placed on a ketogenic diet—reaching ketosis is necessary.”

A newbornwestern lowland gorilla has died, according to Zoo Atlanta.
Kambera, one of the zoo’s western lowland gorillas, gave birth on Nov. 13, the 27th gorilla born at Zoo Atlanta, according to officials. The baby died later in the day.
The father was Willie B. Jr., the son of Zoo Atlanta’s most famous gorilla, Willie B.
The infant initially had a strong grip, appeared healthy, and was nursing well, but things soon went awry.

Before the infant’s health deteriorated, zoo officials were optimistic.
“We are very encouraged and cautiously optimistic that the baby will be able to nurse regularly in the near future,” said Sam Rivera, Zoo Atlanta’s vice president of animal health. “Intervention is never a preferred measure unless an infant’s health is in question, as we always want to see gorilla babies remain with their mothers with no human interference. Fortunately, our teams were prepared for a variety of outcomes with this birth. We continue to closely watch both Kambera and the infant to ensure both remain healthy.”
This newborn was among more than two dozen gorillas born at Zoo Atlanta since the debut of The Ford African Rain Forest in 1988.
“The legacy of Willie B. is a story deeply rooted in Atlanta’s history,” said Raymond B. King, President and CEO of Zoo Atlanta. “Generations of Atlantans have connected with Willie B., his descendants, and the larger message of gorilla conservation. We are excited to see this legacy continue and to welcome a new ambassador for this critically endangered species.”
Willie B., Jr.’s four sisters—Kudzoo, Olympia, Sukari, and Lulu— help make up Zoo Atlanta’s gorilla legacy as group members and mothers. Kudzoo, Sukari, and Lulu still reside at Zoo Atlanta with their own offspring, while Olympia lives at another AZA-accredited organization and is the mother of a son.

Budget carrier Spirit Airlines has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the airline announced on Monday. Read on to find out what it means for Atlanta customers and more.

Customers of Spirit Airlines flights will still be able to fly and the airline will operate as normal at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta.
In a statement early Monday, the airline announced it had reached a prearranged agreement with its bondholders, which includes $300 million in debtor-in-possession financing to help it navigate the bankruptcy process. Spirit expects to emerge from bankruptcy by the first quarter of next year. The airline also assured that its vendors and aircraft lessors would not be affected. In a court filing, Spirit listed its assets and liabilities as being between $1 billion and $10 billion.
Despite the filing, Spirit emphasized that operations would continue as usual, and customers could still book flights.
“The most important thing to know is that you can continue to book and fly now and in the future,” Spirit CEO Ted Christie wrote in a letter to customers. He added that customers could use tickets, credits, and loyalty points without disruption to choose the best times to fly.

No, Zoo Atlanta is not free for general admission. However, it is free to some people.
All active-duty, reserves, veterans, and retired members of the U.S. military get in free with valid identification. But you may be thinking how much does it cost to get into Zoo Atlanta.
Zoo Atlanta now has a policy of “timed ticketing,” which means the price varies based on the time of year. For the hotter months, here’s what you’ll typically pay:

You don’t have to pay for parking there, but you also have to watch where you park.
If you can’t park on-site, you have to get a space in the adjoining neighborhoods. Once the zoo parking lot fills up, most people just park off of Cherokee Avenue.
Zoo Atlanta’s hours are generally 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, although the facility allows you to schedule your itinerary to see the animal attractions at specific times. Zoo Atlanta is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Kelly, Tara and Msholo are the zoo’s famed African elephants. Their habitat is just what you’d see in the Motherland: a pond, waterfalls and multiple opportunities to create mud wallows like they would in the new African Savanna.
Zoo fans have grown accustomed to Lulu, but now little Anaka has made the gorilla group a cradle of joy. The zoo also has some famous primates there, like Pelari the orangutan and many more.

A new series — Man in Full — began filming in Atlanta on August 8, 2022. The show, commissioned by Netflix, is a six-episode limited series. Netflix has yet to announce when the release date for the series will be.

Netflix is producing “Holidate,” a romantic comedy starring Emma Roberts and directed by John Whitesell. The movie centers on two friends who despise the holidays because they don’t have significant others. Pre-production began in March 2019.
Director Ron Howard helms the Netflix movie Hillbilly Elegy, an adaptation of the best-selling book by J.D. Vance. Julie Oh is executing producing the movie, which follows three generations of one family. Amy Adams and Glenn Close are attached to the project, which will shoot in Atlanta.
Christmas On The Square filmed in Atlanta as well. The Netflix feature special is directed by Debbie Allen in collaboration with Dolly Parton, Magnolia Hill Productions and Warner Bros.

The celebrity owners of Bankhead Seafood have finally opened the historic eatery on Atlanta’s west side.
The restaurant officially opened on Sunday, Nov. 17 after a long hiatus as Atlanta’s go-to spot for affordable seafood in the community.
Bankhead Seafood founder dies days after restaurant’s re-opening.
The new Atlanta restaurant has been revived by rappers, entrepreneurs and now restaurateurs Killer Mike and T.I.
The two businessmen purchased the eatery in 2019 after it had closed down.
The new Bankhead Seafood is set to open on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024. The restaurant initially had plans to open in early 2021, according to Michael “Killer Mike” Render, who has done extensive press about the eatery.
The seafood restaurant closed abruptly in 2018 after 50 years in operation when longtime owner Helen Harden admitted that she just didn’t have the stamina to run the business like she used to.
“I felt like I wasn’t giving my customers a good service when they had to wait a little longer than they usually had to,” she told 11Alive.
Here is what we know about the re-opening of Bankhead Seafood:
The Atlanta rappers and businessmen both grew up in underprivileged areas of Atlanta. Bankhead Seafood has long been an institution on the city’s west side.
The two entrepreneurs saw an opportunity to re-invest in their communities and give back.
“I partnered with [Atlanta rapper] Killer Mike and other developers to purchase the Bankhead Seafood building,” Tip told INC. magazine. “There is a corner where I have an assemblage of lots that I acquired with another partner. There’s another, bigger lot that I am acquiring on my own. I’ve gone in on six buildings and spent more than $2 million. I don’t have private equity financing or anything like that. It’s my personal finances and sweat equity.”
Talking to APSTV, Killer Mike said the Grove Park restaurant is very important to the city.
“Bankhead Seafood is a product of this community. And T.I. and I buying it shows that this community has produced good stock,” he said. “We’re not waiting on other people to save us. We’re not waiting for some grand fund to come.”
“We’re taking money we’ve went out and earned through hard work and bringing it back in this community bringing jobs and opportunity.”
