The worse thing you can do is show up at the grocery store without a plan. You don’t want to shop by just throwing whatever you see in your basket.
You should make a budget that takes care of all your needs for that week or until your next paycheck. When you create a budget here’s what you should include:
- List your expenses
- Itemize things you don’t need
- Lastly, write down necessities

It will also show you what you can buy and how much you can afford. Another benefit of making a shopping list is that it will keep you focused so you don’t overspend.

It was just another day in metro Atlanta, but then it wasn’t. A Georgia couple had planned to get married in South Carolina but the coronavirus pandemic changed their plans.
They had to make do in Lawrenceville’s Rhodes Park when a celebrity happened upon them. R&B singer Tony Terry saw the couple and asked to sing for them, which they eagerly accepted.
“I asked if I could sing for their first dance and they danced while I sang to them. We were walking in Rhodes Jordan park today socially distancing ourselves of course and we see a couple getting married It was just the two of them and the officiant I asked if I could sing for their first dance and they danced while I sang to them,” he posted alongside the video.

Much is made about the guitar work of superstar Jimmy Hendrix, whose rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” forever altered the anthem in the minds of countless baby boomers.
The performance was cemented at Woodstock, the 1969 music festival in upstate New York.
Remembering The Atlanta International Pop Festival
More than a month before more than 400,000 hippies, college students and lost souls traveled to a remote gathering space up north, Atlanta hosted an event that featured many of the same artists.
When Was The Atlanta International Pop Festival?
The official name of Woodstock was “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music,” in ATL, The rock festival was held at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton, home of the Atlanta Motor Speedway, on July 4th, 1969.
According to Birmingham Weekly, “The bill was wildly eclectic, from mainstream jazz with Dave Brubeck to first generation rock with Chuck Berry; from sweet soul by the Staple Singers and Booker T to the blues of Canned Heat and Paul Butterfield; from the folk of Ian and Sylvia to the cataclysm of Led Zeppelin. As an intrepid band of explorers from Alabama arrived at the outskirts of Hampton prior to the show amid a stupendous traffic jam, it was clear that word-of-mouth had drawn the crowd Cooley sought.”
Cooley would go on to apologetically host a concert the following Monday in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, embarrassed that he’d made a $12,000 profit at the pop fest. “You have to understand the context,” Cooley told Atlanta Magazine. “It was the height of the Vietnam War, and Lester Maddox was governor. I wanted to do something that would make people where I lived understand that we could change.”

The year 2020 has brought a momentous change to all of our lives. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a big shift in the fortunes of millions of people. The reason is because of the “r” word: Recession.
In this article, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about recession, which is the economic condition that many experts say we’re about to enter into.
What Is A Recession?
Technically speaking a country is officially in a recession when its production goes from positive to negative. This is called negative growth of a country’s gross domestic product.
A recession is characterized by a number of economic indicators, including:
- Unemployment
- Housing bust
- Stock market decline
When Is The Next Recession?
Many economic experts believe that we are entering a recession. The reason they say that is because consumers stop spending.
Another sign is that businesses begin to slow down. They may also stop hiring and even lay off employees.
This creates anxiety in the workplace and other companies guard their budgets and people begin to cut back.
How To Prepare For A Recession
A recession is a terrible thing, but you can navigate it if you have a strategy. Here are three steps you can do to help mitigate the situation.
1. Cut Back On Spending
You don’t want to be spending a lot of money if you can help it. The #1 thing you need to do is stop spending money on things that are not necessities.
This would include things like:
- Subscriptions
- Gym memberships
- Going out to eat
- Shopping sprees
- Entertainment and recreation
2. Start Saving
This goes hand in hand with #1. When you cut back on spending, what you want to do with the money is start saving it. You’ll want to save on groceries and other things.
You could open a savings account if you can find a good APR. That way, you money can begin to accrue interest at a faster rate.
You’ll also need to put a savings strategy into practice. Here are some great tips.
3. Start Making Money
During a recession, full-time employment is something that only a relatively few people will be able to sustain. If you’re not deemed an “essential” worker, it may be tough to keep a job.
That’s why you’ll want to try to get some part-time work or a side gig to help pay the bills. Keep your eyes and ears open. There are plenty of opportunities to:
Final Words
Always remember that it’s not how you start, but where you end up. In other words, in a recession, it may get bad, but just know that it’s temporary. Things always bounce back. Always.

Because of the ongoing health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, online grocery sales have exploded. Like many people, you may not be able to get a shopping slot on apps like Instacart, Shipt or Amazon.
The reason for this is because so many people are using the apps that the online grocers are overwhelmed. That’s why they’ve gone on a hiring spree right now. But here’s how you can get you some groceries.
Best Time To Grocery Shop On Instacart, Shipt, Amazon, Etc.
I ran across this hack by watching for slots to open on Instacart and Amazon (I have Amazon Fresh). Here’s what you need to do: Log on early in the morning, anytime from 6 to 7 a.m.
During that time period, you’ll see that there may be time slots available for later in the day.
It’s unlikely that the 1-hour grocery delivery will be available, but the 2-hour grocery delivery may be available. If not, the evening time slot should definitely be there.
How To Reserve A Grocery Delivery Slot Online
The thing is, you may have to do all your shopping first before you can see what time slots are available.
To test the market, you can walk through the steps of buying a single item and see what time slots are available. When you see that a delivery slot is open, go ahead and reserve it and add to your order.
If this strategy works for you, please let me know in the comments!

The Atlanta Falcons debuted new team uniforms on Wednesday with updated designs that build on the team’s main red and black colors.
One departure from past jerseys is that the uniforms have the word “ATL” printed on the front. Typically that’s where the actual name of the team would go, but this is groundbreaking.

The jerseys add some spice to the squad’s 2020 season, which will be like no other, given the global health crisis going on.
The Falcons likely aren’t the only team with new outfits this year. It remains to be seen if any other franchises will follow suit.
Falcons Coach Dan Quinn says the team has had to adjust to the new normal by learning how to teach online. He says with the technology they have and the planning they’re putting into place, they’re learning “how to throw a hell of a virtual offseason.”

Georgia has made the decision to extend its satewide lockdown by four weeks, Gov. Brian Kemp announced on Wednesday, April 8. The measures are to ensure that the state is doing what it can to fight the rise of coronavirus cases.
Update: Georgia Lockdown Lifted
The Peach State has been under a statewide shelter-in-place order that was to end on April 13, but that’s no longer the case.
It now extends to April 30, 2020. State and local observers are wondering if Kemp will allow it to expire, especially since he has re-opened Georgia businesses.
Georgia Extends State Of Emergency Until…
In extending the order, Kemp was joined by Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and House Speaker David Ralston.
“To ensure the health and well-being of Georgians, I will extend the public health state of emergency through May 13, 2020,” Kemp said in a written statement. “This measure will allow us to continue to deploy resources to communities in need, lend support to frontline medical providers, and keep preparing as we brace for potential patient surge in our healthcare facilities.”
He added: “We deeply appreciate the hard work of Georgians who are sheltering in place, using social distancing, and helping us flatten the curve. We are in this fight together.”
The move comes as Atlanta was selected as a drive-through testing site for COVID-19 cases. The testing site, a partnership between the state, CVS and Georgia Tech, has seen long lines of cars as people wait to get tested for coronavirus.
The actual test only takes less than 30 minutes, according to people who have endured the process.
Kemp’s original order has been met with criticism because of the appearance of a lax attitude toward the order from Georgia officials. For instance, Georgia reopened the beaches shortly after issuing the statewide emergency.
You can go to any of these places as long as you practice social distancing.

With the continued spread of the coronavirus pandemic, public health officials are recommending that the American public wear respiratory masks.
This article is going to show you how to make a mask from how-to videos recommended by nurses, textile pros and manufacturing companies.
In This Article:
- How To Make A Mask in 4 Easy Steps
- How To Make A Face Cover: Materials & Tutorial
- Examples of Homemade Face Covers
Before we get started, let’s look explicitly at what the CDC recommends when it comes to cloth masks. In its guidance titled “Recommendations Regarding the Use of Cloth Face Coverings,” the agency says this:
In light of this new evidence [asymptomatic transmission], CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.
Now that we’ve brushed up on the guidance, here’s what to know about mask effectiveness. This graphic shows the effectiveness of a surgical, N95 and FFP (filter face piece) as it relates to contaminants.
Varsoy Healthcare Mask Regulation: Surgical, N95 And FFP1 Mask
Basically, what it’s showing is that not all masks are equally effective in protecting you from the novel coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 & Covid-19. Now let’s get into the scientific data to back it up:
- N95 Respirators: These are touted as providing 95% protection against viruses but maybe less, according to this study from the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
- Cloth Masks: The DIY nature of these means that not all cloth masks are created equal. However, a preliminary study published in ACS Nano by University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory researchers indicate that homemade face masks made out of a combination of tight cotton and silk or polyester-spandex chiffon is very effective in filtering out aerosols.
- Surgical Masks: Most used in a health care setting, these are made out of polypropylene and are 56% effective against viral droplets, according to research published in the British Medical Journal.
- No Mask: You’re on your own with this one. Hope you’re not a carrier.
How To Make A Mask In 4 Easy Steps
- Lay a piece of cloth on a table
- Fold it in a large rectangle no more than 18 inches long
- Wrap two rubberband on each end and position it about 3 inches in
- Fold the sides one time toward the middle
And that’s how you make a face covering!

The CDC has issued guidance on how to protect yourself from COVID-19 by wearing a face cover. Here is what you need to know:
How To Make A Face Cover
- fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- be secured with ties or ear loops
- include multiple layers of fabric
- allow for breathing without restriction
- be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape
The agency says when you remove a face covering, it’s important not to touch your hands, eyes or face.
You can easily wash a face covering in the washing machine, which is sufficient to kill any viruses or bacteria.
If you want to sew a face cover, here are the instructions:
Materials Needed To Sew A Face Covering
- Two 10”x6” rectangles of cotton fabric
- Two 6” pieces of elastic (or rubber bands, string, cloth strips, or hair ties)
- Needle and thread (or bobby pin)
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
Tutorial: How to Sew A Face Covering
1. Cut out two 10-by-6-inch rectangles of cotton fabric. Use tightly woven cotton, such as quilting fabric or cotton sheets
2. Fold over the long sides ¼ inch and hem. Then fold the double layer of fabric over ½ inch along the short sides and stitch down.
3. Run a 6-inch length of 1/8-inch wide elastic through the wider hem on each side of the mask. These will be the ear loops. Use a large needle or a bobby pin to thread it through. Tie the ends tight.
Don’t have elastic? Use hair ties or elastic head bands.4. Gently pull on the elastic so that the knots are tucked inside the hem. Gather the sides of the mask on the elastic and adjust so the mask fits your face. Then securely stitch the elastic in place to keep it from slipping.
No-Sew Method: How To Make A Face Cover
No-Sew Method: Bandana Face Cover

- Bandana (or square cotton cloth approximately 20”x20”)
- Coffee filter
- Rubber bands (or hair ties)

One thing that’s been selling out in area grocery stores is toilet paper. The truth is that no one anticipated people would be buying toilet paper in the coronavirus pandemic, but that’s what’s happening.
If you need toilet paper, there’s one outfit that has you covered. Atlanta-based digital marketing and PR agency, Trevelino/Keller has created the Toilet Paper Exchange (TPE), which gives out free toilet paper.
Atlanta PR Firm Distributes Free Toilet Paper
“In times like this, we need a bit of levity to break up the stress associated with ever-changing dynamics due to the coronavirus,” says Genna Keller, principal at Trevelino/Keller. “The Toilet Paper Exchange is indeed intended to distract us from the current stress while providing those TP-less, a roll to get through the day. We see the potential for the platform to address other impending household needs and are exploring additional ways we can use it to help the Atlanta community.”
Dean Trevelino says it is his hope that many of the city’s businesses that have closed their offices and set up shop remotely can donate their toilet roll surpluses.
“We suspect many schools, businesses and churches have excess supply of toilet paper and other paper and cleaning products,” adds Dean Trevelino, principal. “We encourage them to contribute to the TPE and we’ll take it from there.”
For groups interested in donating excess toilet paper and/or serving as a TP Toss Collection Point, please visit http://toiletpaperexchange.com/TKTossPartner.
To find out where T/K’s is distributing toilet paper rolls, check out their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
