Report: Usher TV Series In The Works

    2 Min Read

Riding off his success from his Super Bowl performance, eight-time Grammy winner Usher is producing a series based on his music, according to news reports. The news comes just as the singer has announced a multi-city tour.

The drama series will be produced in partnership with UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, according to Variety.

Kenny Meiselas Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and Katie Zucker have signed on as executive producers.

“My 30-year catalog has resonated with so many people no matter where they were in their lives,” Usher said. “I’m happy to be working with UCP to bring the music to life. I hope the series resonates with you the way my music continues to.”

The drama series is about, “Black love in Atlanta and individuals looking to find a place to call home. The series will explore music, style, sex, romance and secrets that threaten to tear relationships apart,” according to the logline.

What’s not known yet is who will star in the series and what streaming services will eventually buy it and stream it.

Usher has also announced a national tour, which comes to his home — Atlanta — and other cities. His new album “Coming Home,” dropped in early February.

The mall is a little dated and so is the theater, but they do you have everything that you want here. There are a lot of screens, the rooms aren’t large (that’s nice!), and service was fast. It doesn’t compare to the shiny and oversized theaters in the suburbs, but then again, here you’ll find the Oscar winning movies alongside really well-curated films.”

Starlight Drive-In Theatre and Flea Market

One reviewer says this: “Great for those who have kids. It’s is in a rough area but didn’t have any issues with anyone. Restrooms we’re clean, concessions were slow but reasonable prices. The movie screens are a little dated and could use some remodeling. Otherwise, a great experience.”

There are plenty of appetizing restaurants in the surrounding area that you can choose from. Parking is free. The theater is clean, however, the lady’s restroom did need more attention. It was not filthy, but it did have a strong urine scent on the left wing of stalls. The theater was large and I liked having the option of choosing and reserving my seat ahead of time. Check in was fast and efficient. The recliner seats were comfortable and well spaced from the front and back. I will definitely return to this theater again.”

  • Usher Alicia Keys hug at the Super Bowl

OMG: 5 Times Usher Just About Took Somebody’s Woman

    2 Min Read

Usher performed all the hits at his Super Bowl performance, but if you know what I know, what really stood out was that his mic was on. Yes, he was really singing out there. But also many on social media have been reacting to the spontaneous hug – from behind – that he gave to fellow singer Alicia Keys.

Usher has always been a real singer, but he’s always said, “Don’t leave your girl around me.” Have you forgotten?

Check out these live performances where Usher “got a little fresh” with the participants, from Mary J. Blige, Summer Walker and more.

    Usher And Jennifer Hudson

J-Hud had to look twice and more than that as Usher laid it on thick with the crooning and swooning.

    Usher Swoons Kenya Moore

Also, who knew Usher was a RHOA fan? Seriously, Kenya Moore, a former Miss America, was swept off her feet with the “OMG” singer pulled up.

    Usher Finds Out She’s H.E.R.

Usher knows that H.E.R. is a beast vocally and musically, which is why he tapped her for the Super Bowl, but he’s not above sliding through either.

Victoria Monet Meet Usher, Usher Meet Victoria Monet

The “On My Mama” singer gave props to Usher and he no doubt will be producing something soon with her.

Usher Turns Summer Walker Into Autumn

In other words, he made her “fall” for him. This was when we knew Usher was on a mission during his shows. And Summer was with all the action!

    Final Word

Usher is one of the most iconic singers and performers still at it today, and there’s no denying that. He represents Atlanta like no other.

Hamilton Review in Atlanta: Musical, Federalist History Unfurls at The Fox

    4 Min Read

The crowd was electric the night I went to see Hamilton at the fabulous Fox Theatre. The weather was on the chilly side, so the audience was largely dressed in heavy, layered clothing. I saw a lot of bubble jackets and even some minks.

Hamilton In Atlanta: What To Expect

The Fox Theatre, with its rich history in illustrious Midtown Atlanta, is the perfect venue for something like Hamilton. My seat was fairly close to the stage and so I got to see all the action pretty close up.

The show had good pacing, although I will admit the politics of it all seemed a bit much by the time the musical entered its last stanza. Some of the standout songs for me were One Shot, which was the second tune performed. Also, You’ll Be Back and the 10 Duel Commandments, which borrow heavily from Notorious Big’s song of a similar name.

Throughout it all, we got to live through the rise of Alexander Hamilton as a political statesman who rubbed shoulders with and who was himself a Founding Father of America.

Catch Hamilton In Atlanta This Weekend

Aside from a scandalous turn with a mistress and a duel that ended tragically, Hamilton’s life played out pretty much like you would expect for a politician today.

Some of the songs were super-catchy, but the rapid-fire rhymes – spoken or sung over pulsing music – largely went over the heads of many an attendee.

If you know anything about Hamilton, you know that it has become the darling of the play circuit ever since it debuted on Broadway in 2015.

Since then, the play has garnered significant acclaim and racked up numerous Tony Award nominations, winning Best Musical and also scoring a Grammy Award and a Pulitzer Prize for its creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Miranda, the show’s creator, appeared on stage for about a year before departing for good in the summer of 2016.

Miranda got the idea for the musical after reading Ron Chernow’s biography Alexander Hamilton while on vacation.

The show begins with an earnest Alexander Hamilton, played spectacularly by Pierre Jean Gonzalez, thinking about his station in life and dreaming big with his comrades.

Tyler Fauntleroy, who plays John Laurens and Philip Hamilton, impresses throughout with some strong wordplay and pacing to keep the story moving, The Virginia Commonwealth alum and Succession actor shines throughout.

Deon’te Goodman (The Prince of Egypt and Freedom Riders musicals) seemed to win the audience over with his starturns as Aaron Burr, but Marcus Choi (“Wicked” and the “Flower Drum Song.” excellently cast as George Washington, held his own throughout much of the middle of the musical.

Without a doubt, Neil Haskell – whose past credits include Glee, So You Think You Can Dance and MTV’s Faking It –  stole the show with his open-mouthed vocals as King George, which the crowd loved.

The beautiful Lencia Kebebe turned in a star performance as Angelica Schuymer, which helped along with Kendyl Sayuri Yokoyama (Peggy Schuymer and Maria Reynolds) to balance out the melodies with some very strong female vocals.

    Final Word

Hamilton has been out now for nearly a decade and it’s still a formidable force on the stage. That’s a testament to its relevance due to the themes the musical touches on, including immigration, classicism and politics.

Will Hamilton usher in a new era of hip-hop for Broadway? That remains to be seen.
