College Park restaurant Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen is opening a second location in downtown Atlanta, the eatery announced on social media. The owners behind the eatery, Juan and Gee Smalls, also are growing their new all-day breakfast spot, The Breakfast Boys, in Conyers, Georgia.
Virgil’s, named one of the best restaurants on Atlanta’s south side, is, known for its tasty brand of lowcountry seafood inspired by the Gullah culture of South Carolina.

On social media, the restaurant revealed its plans for 2022:
“Not only do we have two restaurant concepts, but we will also be opening a 2nd location for each at the top of 2022. One of which we purchased, and the other from a leasing company that sought us out. it’s by no coincidence that the restaurant is in none other than the city of Atlanta. we have also gotten several other calls from retail developers, asking us to bring Virgil’s to their development as well.”

Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen is opening in the space formerly occupied by 4 Rivers Smokehouse at 822 Marietta St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. The restaurant closed down early in the COVID-19 pandemic.
For now, all we know is that Virgil’s plans to open early in the year, but no firm date has been released yet.

Southern Belle in Midtown Atlanta has announced the next round of guest chefs in its dinner series called “Bless Their Hearts,” which features different meals from diverse chefs.
Southern Belle Introduces ‘Bless Your Heart’ Guest Chef Dinner Series
The next “Bless Their Hearts” dinner is set for Sunday, November 26, 2021.
The monthly series began on Sunday, Sept. 12.
“I wanted to get together with colleagues who have a similar mindset to celebrate the up-and-coming chefs representing the new face of Southern cuisine,” says Southern Belle chef-owner Joey Ward, who plans to host Atlanta’s culinary talent before expanding to chefs from other Southeastern cities. “I’m excited to showcase the diversity of these guest chefs.”
What’s On The Menu?
The dinners, which are limited to 70 guests each, will feature five courses plus an amuse-bouche for $135 per guest (excluding tax and gratuity).
- Seatings will happen between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m.
- You can make reservations via Resy.
Wine pairings from sommelier Cate Hatch will be available for an additional $70. Non-alcoholic pairings also are available as well as the restaurant’s full cocktail and beverage list.

Emmett Till Movie Begins Shooting In Georgia
The Emmett Till movie began shooting the first week of November 2021. Orion Films is producing the film, which has signed Chinonye Chukwu to write the script.
The movie is set to be released April 22, 2022.
Who’s Been Cast In The Emmett Till Movie?
Whoopi Goldberg has signed on to play the role of Emmett’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley.
In addition to Goldberg, the film stars Daniel Deadwyler, Frankie Faison, Jayme Lawson, Tosin Cole, Kevin Carroll, Sean Patrick Thomas and Roger Guenveur Smith, among others.

Atlanta has been a major market for home listings site Zillow’s home buying program, which is called Offers. Now the Offers are off the table.Zillow said on Tuesday that it’s exiting Offers, its business that buys and flips homes, and eliminating 25% of its workforce.
Zillow Offers Shuts Down
Zillow revealed the news in its third-quarter earnings report. , which detailed how the company missed its earnings mark to the chagrin of analysts.
The company said that it would cost too much money to keep the program afloat.
“We’ve determined the unpredictability in forecasting home prices far exceeds what we anticipated,” Zillow CEO Rich Barton said in the release. “Continuing to scale Zillow Offers would result in too much earnings and balance-sheet volatility.”
Zillow’s home buying prowess has been getting significant backlash after a viral TikTok explained how the company was buying up properties in the inner city and created an artificially inflated market by suppressing prices in some areas and causing them to rise in other areas of the market.
