Tiffany Haddish pleaded guilty on August 11, 2026, to a misdemeanor alcohol-related DUI charge in a Fayette County courtroom in Fayetteville, Georgia, resolving a case that stemmed from her January 2022 arrest.
The actor and comedian, known for roles in Girls Trip and her Emmy- and Grammy-winning work, entered the plea by video on the day her long-delayed trial was set to begin. Other charges, including a drug-related DUI count, were dropped as part of the agreement. She initially said she’d fight the case. She avoided additional jail time and was credited for the brief period she spent in custody after her arrest.
Fayette County State Court Judge Jason Thompson sentenced Haddish to 12 months of probation. Conditions include abstaining from drugs and alcohol (with testing), completing a substance abuse evaluation, attending DUI school or a counseling program, and performing community service. Her Georgia driver’s license was also suspended.2
The 2022 Arrest
The case originated in the early morning hours of January 14, 2022. Around 2:30 a.m., a 911 caller reported a person who appeared to be asleep in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Explorer, foot on the brake, at a traffic light in Peachtree City (about 30 miles south of Atlanta). An officer located a matching vehicle and stopped Haddish as she pulled into a residential yard. She was arrested on DUI-related charges and taken to the Fayette County Jail; she posted bond and was released after a short time in custody.
The case faced significant delays. In May 2026, Haddish’s attorneys sought dismissal, arguing the multi-year wait violated her right to a speedy trial and caused personal and professional harm. The judge rejected the motion, noting that some delays were requested by the defense (including one tied to a fashion event). Evidence issues, such as certain field sobriety test results and post-arrest statements, had also been litigated earlier.
Context and Related Matters
Haddish has publicly discussed sobriety in recent years. She faced a separate DUI arrest in Beverly Hills, California, in November 2023. That case was resolved in February 2024 when she pleaded no contest to a reduced “wet reckless” (vehicle code) charge; the original DUI counts were dismissed, and she received probation along with other requirements.25
During the Georgia hearing, her attorney indicated she was taking the matter seriously and had been open about her sobriety journey. The plea ends more than four years of legal proceedings related to the Peachtree City incident.
