A group of Georgia Tech students have created a finance app that makes a game out of saving money. The goal is to help you build up an emergency fund from doing something you do every day.

The app — MoneyPie — lets users save by coming up with common savings goals. You can also get rewards from reaching intermediate benchmarks on your way to saving.

“Spending is a social activity, and we wanted to make saving money one as well,” said Eithan Martinez, a computer science undergraduate and one of three co-founders.

“If you don’t reach your goal, the penalty might be doing the laundry for your roommates,” said Martinez. “If you hit your savings mark, maybe your friend picks up the check when you go out to eat.”

The app recently debuted at the Georgia Tech Create-X 2019 Demo Day in Midtown Atlanta at the Fox Theatre.

MoneyPie is available for download in the App Store.
