Reality TV queen Karlie Redd is opening Atlanta casting for Best Friend Approved, a dating concept in which a best friend does the dating for you.
The Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta personality recently put out the casting call for the project she is hosting. The casting call frames the premise in one line: your best friend becomes your matchmaker — with a twist. The friend, not the person looking for love, goes on the dates with potential matches and reports back.
Karlie Redd Hosts Atlanta Casting Call
“Think your bestie can find your soulmate? Let’s find out,” the post reads.
The in-person casting call is set for October 13 at 11 a.m. Sign-ups are linked through Eventbrite. The post urges viewers to tag a best friend and uses the hashtags #BestFriendApproved, #KarlieRedd, and #CastingCall. Early engagement on the reel sat at roughly 1,700 likes and more than 200 comments, many of them people tagging friends or asking where to sign up.
Redd has been a main cast member of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta since the series premiered in 2012. Born Karlie “Keisha” Redd (née Lewis), she is also a rapper, model, actress, and producer. She has appeared on Scream Queens, played a recurring role on Bounce TV’s Saints & Sinners, and runs Redd Media Productions, which has placed films on Tubi. In later interviews she has said she returned to law classes after a divorce and earned a certification through the American Board of Sexology after an endorsement arrangement with an adult-products company.
The Atlanta casting notice does not spell out network, episode count, or compensation. What it does spell out is the format: pairs built around friendship, with the friend doing the screening dates so the person seeking a relationship does not have to. Comments under the reel already show people lining up partners — some joking that certain zodiac signs should sit it out, others tagging siblings and friends with a direct ask to get them on the show.
For anyone in Atlanta who wants in, the window is short. The call is October 13 at 11 a.m., and registration runs through the Eventbrite link in Redd’s post.
Final Word
Atlanta reality TV shows showcase the best and worst of the city, but they have a following unlike anything we’ve seen in modern times.
TV executive Mona Scott has created an urban juggernaut that is single-handedly keeping VH1 afloat.
On Bravo, the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” franchise continues to be a perennial winner among millennials. The bottom line is that people want to see Atlanta on TV.
