A 90-minute show about how black kids geek out is long overdue in Atlanta. Coming to Dad’s Garage in Midtown Atlanta is such an event.
Starring Avery Sharpe, Jon Wierenga, Candy McLellan and Jon Carr, “Black Nerd” is what you get when you combine Dragon Con with Tyler Perry, or at least that’s what the promo says.
“What happens when a black kid prefers listening to Weird Al over Kendrick Lamar, attend Dragon Con over the Jay-Z Concert, or Star Wars over Tyler Perry (there is still some debate about the prequels)? It’s the TV show Atlanta meets Dragon Con as the creator of the Dad’s Garage show “Wrath of Con” brings you a dark comedy about a young man’s journey navigating the expectations of his black family and white friends. When race and geekdom collide you get a Black Nerd.”
