Report: Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America Headed To Amazon

Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America is coming to Amazon Studios. That’s the destination for the Atlanta-filmed movie, according to Deadline.

The highly anticipated sequel to Coming to America had been in the works more than 20 years before Murphy finally agreed to a script. Filming took place largely around downtown Atlanta and partially at Tyler Perry Studios on the southwest side of town.

When Is Coming 2 America Coming Out?

Coming 2 America will begin streaming on December 18, 2020. While the film was supposed to premiere in theaters (it had a release date and everything), COVID-19’s effect on the box office necessitated a change of plans.

To get Coming 2 America to its Prime streaming service, Amazon Studios and Paramount agreed on a $125 million deal, Deadline reports.

Aside from castings in Atlanta and more, working on Coming 2 America, Murphy had a busy 2019, wrapping production around Dolemite, which debuted on Netflix.

Murphy and Arsenio Hall have long been the driving forces behind a second installment of the franchise, which is a fish-out-of-water story about an African prince who finds his princess in America.

Coming 2 America’s plot is reportedly one that involves Prince Akeem’s son, who also chooses to looks to explore his fate in American instead of  his native land Zamunda.
